Grand Hotel Adriatic: Opatija's Paradise with a Panoramic Spa The Grand Hotel Adriatic in Opatija isn't just a hotel, it's an experience! From the stunning views to the luxurious spa and delectable breakfast, this place truly impressed me, even in the beautiful but potentially quieter December month. Spa Haven with a Million Dollar View Let's start with the star of the show - the spa! It's easily the best spa I've encountered, boasting breathtaking panoramic views of Opatija. Imagine indulging in a relaxing treatment while gazing out at the charming town bathed in sunlight (or twinkling lights in December). It's the ultimate stress-buster and a visual feast all at once. A Renovated Gem The hotel itself is beautifully renovated, offering a modern yet elegant ambiance. Everything feels comfortable and stylish, making your stay even more enjoyable. Million Dollar Views, Literally And speaking of views, the Grand Hotel Adriatic doesn't disappoint. Prepare to be mesmerized by the stunning panorama of Opatija and the Kvarner Bay. No matter which room you choose, you're guaranteed a breathtaking vista that will take your breath away. Breakfast Fit for Royalty The breakfast buffet at the Grand Hotel Adriatic is truly a feast for the senses. A wide array of delicious options awaits you, from fresh pastries and local specialties to international favorites. It's the perfect way to fuel your day of exploring Opatija's many delights. December Magic While some might consider December a quiet time to visit Opatija, I found it to be quite charming. The hotel itself creates a warm and inviting atmosphere, and the lack of crowds allows you to truly appreciate the beauty of both the hotel and the town. A Luxurious Escape Overall, the Grand Hotel Adriatic is a luxurious escape perfect for those seeking relaxation, rejuvenation, and stunning visuals. From the incredible spa with a view to the delectable breakfast and beautifully renovated hotel, your stay here will be unforgettable. It's truly a gem in Opatija's crown!

We had a very bad experience for paying €200 a night. With our first room, when we arrived there was a hole in the wall and smelled like smoke. We asked to change rooms and they moved us to 666. When we arrived at room 666 there was a red substance, possible blood, on the doorframe outside of our door as well as the door across from us. Inside, there were cob webs in the corners, the towel rack was falling down, the shower had mold, a piece of the shower head broke off and scuff marks all over the walls. This was not acceptable standards for €200 euros a night in a 3-4 star hotel. The staff at the bar was also very rude to us, unwilling to answer questions or help with drink options. We had already asked to be moved to a different room once and would not stay another night. We are on holiday and our friends flew across from the United States to be with us and we had the rental car. They had to leave with us because we were leaving. When asking the front desk to refund our unused night, she had us wait 1.5 hours until checkout time to give us an answer. She said all she was allowed to offer us was a new room and there was no way for us to speak to a manager. She claimed we were blackmailing her and that we needed to stop talking when in reality we were expecting superior customer service considering the hotel’s star rating. We understand she was put in the middle of the situation but how we were treated by her and that we were not able to speak directly to a manager was unacceptable. We’ve followed up via email at the recommendation of hotel staff and have not had a response in five days after two additional follow-up emails and many calls which have gone unanswered. I have traveled all of the world to many levels of accommodation and never had such lackluster service.

If I could leave zero stars, I would. Opatija is gorgeous, amazing, stunningly beautiful, with many wonderful hotels - this is not one of them. It's even worse than a Motel 6 if you're American. This hotel should be avoided if at all possible. Here’s our 2-night experience: 1. Cigarette smoke all over the lobby at check in 2. The staff are rude, disingenuous, and downright condescending 3. Hotel had no amenities: no iron, electrical adapters or umbrellas available. They wanted to charge us to send our clothes out to be ironed instead...I was stunned. 4. When the bellhop finally found an electrical adapter at the little shop in the hotel, they tried to charge me $15 to borrow it 5. The first room reeked of mold and cigarette smoke 6. The second room bathtub was completely clogged, so I had to shower standing in 4 inches of water (see photos) 7. The second room bathroom also had mold and the sink was dirty and peeling away (see photos) 8. The reception man (named started with a C or G) refused to let me talk to the manager, saying only that she was unavailable 9. He then promised to hold an adapter for me as soon as one was returned. The next day, when I asked about adapters again, he said he just gave the last one away. When I reminded him that he promised to hold one for me, he grinned sarcastically and said “too bad .” 10. NO A/C! The hotel has seen better days, and it’s clearly at a stage now of major decline. But the worst part was how much the staff dislikes their jobs, and how little they care about their customers. Never in all my travels, staying in hotels big and small, cheap and luxurious, have I ever come across such terrible service.

The hotel boasts a fantastic location with the significant convenience of an accessible parking garage. A standout feature is the tunnel connecting the garage directly to the hotel, allowing for a comfortable, dry arrival even during inclement weather. The rooms are pleasant and well-maintained, although a closer look reveals minor signs of wear on details like the faucet, doorknobs, and ceiling vent in the bathroom. The only thing which we would like to see added in the room is a suitcase holder. We were pleased with the breakfast, which offered a variety of choices with mostly quality ingredients. Throughout our stay, the staff was welcoming, informative, and unobtrusive, contributing to a positive experience.

The pool's location across the street might be a slight inconvenience for some, but it is an understandable compromise given the unique landscape of Opatija. Where the hotel has a clear opportunity for improvement is in its wellness and spa experience. While the wellness staff was exceptionally polite and helpful, we encountered two significant issues in the sauna area that prevented us from fully enjoying it. Firstly, the wood in the Finnish sauna became excessively hot, making it almost impossible to sit or even stand on the benches. It seemed the wood was not of a suitable type or treatment for a sauna, as it retained and conducted heat to an uncomfortable degree, feeling more like hot ceramic tiles.

Secondly, the atmosphere in the sauna and relaxation area was compromised by other guests' behavior. Despite clear signage indicating a textile-free (FKK) environment and a prohibition on mobile phones, approximately 90% of the guests were wearing swimsuits, even inside the saunas, and about half were actively using their phones. This disregard for the rules detracted from the intended tranquil and authentic sauna experience. We did mention this to the staff, but unfortunately, the situation did not change. For the hotel to elevate its offering, it would be beneficial for the wellness staff to politely and proactively inform guests of the proper etiquette to ensure the space remains a respectful and relaxing sanctuary...

At first, we were skeptical about this hotel due to some of the reviews we had read. Nevertheless, we decided to go, keeping our expectations low.||To our surprise, the hotel exceeded all our expectations. Both breakfast and dinner were exceptional—top-quality ingredients, beautifully presented. For dinner, there was fresh fish, salmon, tuna… and in the mornings and evenings, prosciutto was always available. The food was truly on another level.||The staff in the restaurant were professional, polite, and attentive, which added to the overall positive experience.||The rooms were newly renovated with a luxurious feel—excellent bed for sleeping, fluffy pillows and duvets, and plenty of small thoughtful touches that made the stay truly extraordinary. For example, if you didn’t bring a beach bag, they provide one in the room for you to use—such a simple gesture, but incredibly practical and appreciated.||The infinity pool, spa, and saunas with breathtaking sea views were just stunning. Honestly, those views alone are worth the price. There were plenty of loungers and shaded areas, so everyone could find their own perfect spot.||Parking costs €20 per day, which at first seemed a bit high—but considering that public parking on the street is €25.50 per day, the garage is actually a good deal.||Suggestions for improvement:||– A drying rack in the room for swimwear and towels would be helpful, especially if you don’t have a balcony.||– On the pool terrace, water from the upper level sometimes drips onto the loungers below. This could easily be solved by adding gutters.||– In the spa area, it was too hot on the loungers and there was no real way to cool down unless you moved to the pool area in another room.||- It would be nice if still tap water was offered free of charge with dinner.||Overall excellent experience and we will definitely be...
