American Gardens — Attraction in Grad Opatija

First visit was with expectations.. I found no one on 8000m² big garden, that is good taken care of. Slightly disappointed, cause I expected, I'd would say, richer garden.. still I'm writing as non expert for plants. But definitely someone who enjoys decorative garden. Architecture is beautiful, all plants, bushes, trees, flowers.. they all have it's own signature and name. View from garden is amazing, small stone benches around the garden are nicely done. Whole city of Opatija is very beautiful and have interesting history and stories. The same goes for for this small architectural and botanical piece of art. There's interesting history behind it.. What i really don't like is the fact that entrance is literally on the road, whole property is therefore very close to road, chances are, You gonna ride next to it without noticing the garden. 110% recommendations to use bridge over the road for entering the garden. And You know what? It's still beautiful and lovely because of history, the fact that is preserved for longe time and plans are to keep it that way, it offers piece and quiet If You find yourself near Opatija go for a visi I'm American gardens.. take time, sit where you like, breath in the reality of the...

The historical “American gardens" are a valuable example of modernism with hints of historicism. They were built in the first half of the 20th century, in honor of Hilda Von Hortenau, an Opatija native, by her husband Mihaly Pal Kuczor. The gardens owe their name to the continent where Kuczor created his business empire by selling famous Hungarian Szegedi paprika. Amerikanske vrtove izgradio je u prvoj polovini 20 vijeka u cast opatijki Hildi von Hortenau, njezin suprug, madjar, Mihaly Pal Kuczor. Ime vrtovi duguju kontinentu gdje je Mihaly stvorio poslovno carstvo prodajući papriku. Vrtovi imaju prelijep pogled na Kvarnerski zaljev. Do vrtova se dolazi od autobuske stanice se ide samo ravno, dodje se do mosta koji vodi do vrtova i tu ste. Vrtovi se nalaze pod preventivnom zastitom od 2016 godine. Zapamtila sam naziv ulica, spoj Rakovacke ulice sa Novom cestom. Vrtovi inace imaju klupe, stepeniste, pergolu...U vrtovima se moze vidjeti eukaliptus, kamelije, gardenije, magnolije, vinova loza, hiljade ruta, paprike i mnogo drugih. Rusevina koja se nalazi tu( zaboravila sam ime) je sacuvana zahvaljujući tome da je Mihaly mogao kupiti zemljište samo ako sacuva rusevine zidine. Trenutno izradjuju nove projekte, prikupljaju dozvole za obnovu vrtova i botanicke zbirke. Ulaz u amerikanske vrtove je besplatan, stoga je prava steta ako ste u Opatiji, a ne posjetite vrtove. Ponedeljkom su zatvoreni, mada radno vrijeme mozete provjeriti i na sajtu. Po mom mišljenju, jedno od prelijepih mjesta u Opatiji.
