We arrived mid afternoon to a lovely welcome from reception staff who explained what we needed to know. Our room was 206, I just couldn’t get my head round that we had to go down in the lift from reception not up! |Our room had twin beds pushed together, a nice compact shower room, a stocked mini bar with a place over the top for my travel kettle (reception hire kettles too) and a gorgeous view of the marina. We were very happy with our room. Air con worked whilst we were out so we always came back to a cold room. Sometimes too cold but opening the patio doors soon warmed it up! We asked for a rubber bath mat for the shower and it was delivered next day. Very accommodating. We had bathrobes and slippers. Felt very luxurious. |The food (we were half board) was amazing. Cereals and cooked breakfast. Everything you needed apart from toast! But we made do without it. The black tea with milk is like a uk tea. Coffee and hot chocolate from a machine. At dinner you could opt to sit outside but the pigeons drove us mad so we preferred to eat inside. Never a problem finding a table. Fresh veg not tinned. Everything cooked well and sometimes on the spot in front of you. Large choice of food including salads. We couldn’t fault the food at all. |The location of hotel Admiral is perfect. 10 min walk to centre of Opatija which is very pretty. Lots to see and do. Bus stop outside takes you to Icici and Lovran. Lovran definitely worth a visit.|We did a boat tour to the islands of Krk and Cres. We booked with travel agent under the hotel and had a really good day out. |We ate lunch out some days, the lunches in the indoor bar near reception was great quality. Only once did we not enjoy lunch and that was at pool bar. A club sandwich isn’t as advertised! We struggled to eat it. But that was just one out of 14 so mustn’t grumble. Our favourite was Hotel Strauss. The ambience and the decor (and the service and food) was really nice. |The pool was nice and even in July absolutely no worry about getting a sun bed. Some days a lot of beds were empty. The pool is cold, but ok once in. No children’s pool. Actually apart from a small room with games in it, wasn’t a lot for children to do. |The indoor pool (heated) was nice but some sharp edges in place so be bit careful. Jacuzzi too. Beach towels are collected from here, you can change them daily if needed. |There were a couple singing a couple of nights at the hotel but mainly guests did their own thing in the evenings. It’s a very relaxing hotel.|Overall we loved Opatija and our holiday at the Hotel Admiral. You certainly won’t go wrong...
Read moreMy wife and I wanted to spend some quality time before she starts with her job after maternity leave.
The hotel offered relaxing fall program, they pictured very nice spa and pool area, where we could relax and where our 11 months old could play and enjoy.
The reality was completely different and we were shocked. We parked in front of the entrance to unload our luggage. Nobody was there to help, the reception was on the other end, and we had to go and ask where is the ramp for the stroller.
We paid for the superior room. The room was in somewhat renovated part of the hotel, but it was awful. We had no bath robes, no slippers, the wood panels on the furniture were torn off, ripped. Most of the room gave the impression as if it was left as it is midway renovation.
The bathroom was also undone.
The floor of the room were full of dust and the beds were barely made.
There was not a single area where we could play with our toddler, so we mostly stayed in our room. The pool area was dirty, the radiators were rusty. There was only one pool not suitable for our kid and questionable higiene.
We did manage to find a spot in the lobby caffe with some couches and carpets, but this area was rearranged into lobby for some kind of medical conference going there for the weekend which nobody told us about. So we even lost that area to play and have some drinks.
When we had the opportunity to go to saunas, they told us they ran out of bath robes. RAN OUT OF BATH ROBES?! We paid for the spa and everything included, you cannot run out of ROBES!
The sauna area is completely new, but disastrous. The relaxing area is way too hot. The people from the pool are freely allowed to enter, with no sauna culture and dressed in swimsuits. The saunas have no indication of the temperature, there is no relaxing music and the saunas are placed like you are in some kind of exhibition.
The parking spots were supposed to be guaranteed, but there were not any. You could park in a garage but it was 12,50€ per day! With very narrow parking spots so that the most spots were vacant because you coud only fit 2 cars in the area ment for 3.
I sincerely DO NOT recommend this hotel to anyone, especially young family. We are very sorry to have been cheated like this and this hotel is never going to see us again or any of our friend for we will let anyone know how bad, unprofessional and below the price...
Read moreWe stayed at this hotel for five days and had a mixed experience. Although it's located by the seaside, there was no direct access to the sea. Our room was advertised as having a "sea view," but we could only glimpse the sea from a certain angle on the balcony.
We opted for the half-board option, but the dining experience was disappointing. The breakfast and dinner dishes were labeled with just the name, with no mention of ingredients or allergens. There was no gluten-free option at breakfast, and when we asked, we were only given a few slices of gluten-free bread from the kitchen. Additionally, the hotel only provided regular milk, with no lactose-free or alternative milk options available unless requested. Even then, only soya milk was offered, which led us to bringing our own milk to breakfast—a surprising inconvenience for a 4-star hotel. Vegan options were also extremely limited.
The pool was a nice feature, with what seemed like salty seawater. However, on some days, finding a free sunbed was difficult, although we usually managed to get one within 20 minutes.
The parking situation was another major downside. The hotel advertises a parking garage, but with only 16 spaces for over 200 rooms, we never managed to get a spot. It would have cost 22 EUR per day to park in the garage while parking on the streets was even more expensive, often over 25 EUR, and very difficult to find.
When it comes to the staff at the hotel, they were generally helpful and made up for some of the issues we encountered. Although their English skills were not the best, and at times this might come across as a bit rude, it was clear that they had good intentions and were doing their jobs well. However, the reservation team of the hotel group was a completely different story. The experience with them was frustrating, and I would strongly recommend avoiding the call center staff if possible—they were unhelpful and difficult to deal with.
On the positive side, the hotel's location in the marina is fantastic for those interested in boats and sailing. The common terraces on most floors offer beautiful views of the sea, with a jacuzzi...
