EDIT: I did not misunderstand the situation and impoliteness of Ms Banic at all. Even the staff who witnessed the situation was feeling uncomfortable on her behalf. The staff understood I spoke Croatian but Ms Banic did not. At least not when she made comments to the third person, and before I spoke to her in Croatian.
Also, I was not offered any other accommodation. Instead I was told by Ms Banic I will not find any other hotel in Opatija (in or outside your group of hotel) who has adjustable heating. Really, nowadays in a hotel of 4 stars? Moreover, for some reason photos could not have been uploaded in this review but your hotel, how it looks and is maintained at the moment, is not even for 3 stars, let alone 4. Some ownership on your side would go a long way.
If you want to enjoy the fantastic location, this is the place. If you want anything else beyond that, maybe it is not the place for you after all.
We have booked a stay of 12 nights from mid October ((“Superior room with sea view and balcony).
The temperature outside was 22 degrees and the hotel has a central heating turned on 24 degrees, day and night. Mind you, each room does have a thermostat but you cannot do anything with it.
After spending sleepless night despite balcony doors and windows being opened, we tried to communicate the matter with the reception manager Lucija Banić. Not only she was unpleasant and rude in her attitude thinking I did not understand Croatian due to my foreign friend, but she was also not oriented on problem solution at all. She tried to convince us in a very condescending manner that all the hotels in Opatija has the same central heating system, and it was normal to have the heating switched on when outside temperature was 22 degrees (in her own words “you cannot indulge everyone”). Also, we were “allowed” to leave the hotel by Ms Banić but we were most probably not gonna be reimbursed because it was us who were not happy with the situation. Needless to say, we did leave the hotel immediately after the first night and very unpleasant communication by Ms Banić. We were fully reimbursed, but not thanks to Ms Banić.
It is a 4 star hotel, with 4 star pricing, and with that should come certain standard. The breakfast was modest in its taste, and the coffee not drinkable. What I find most astonishing, but the aforementioned matter, is the state of the establishment which advertises itself as a 4 star hotel.
I tried to attach some photos so everyone can decide for themselves if this is the standard of one 4 star hotel, but the review does not show them.
The only reason why I gave more than 1 star in service is the accommodating staff which can do only so much in certain matters. Special kudos to Ms Tanja at...
Read moreWe stayed in one of the seaview rooms with a balcony on the 4th floor and the view was really amazing! Also, this hotel is old so the walls are thick and you don't hear your neighbours like in most newly built hotels. Everything is super clean. Most of the staff is really nice and welcoming.
When booking, we asked about late check-out in the afternoon and received a message it was done deal, only to find out at the hotel that the staff doesn't know anything about that. Ok, customer service is done elsewhere but it's disapponting they didn't tell the hotel staff. And one of the receptionist was really rude, almost aggressive, to prove us we're wrong because she didn't find and info about it. After showing her the email and the message from the hotel saying "ok, you can stay longer without any extra charge" she went in other room and printed our booking reservation, came with a bunch of papers and agressivly pkaced it in front of us with words "OK, SHOW ME WHERE WE SAID YES!". Oh wow, she really eager to prove us wrong. The way she did that together with her tone of voice was super disrespectful (young girl with curly hair). She managed to ruin the whole experience for us in 2 minutes. And all she had to do was be polite. She could say no while being polite but she chose to be rude. She stayed rude even after we talked to her supervisor at the check-out, so she didn't learn a thing about communication. So sad people like that girl work with guests...every other person in the hotel was super nice but she ruined everything. Aggressive behaviour should never be tolerated.
Her supervisor was really calm and polite, explained us what happened with our special request and apologized for her coworker's behaviour. Ljuba, thanks and sorry you had to do that because your colleague was rude. Maybe it's time for some staff communication training.
As for the wellness zone, it was great. A big pool was nice (135-200cm deep, some 30m long I think), as weel as Finish and Turkish sauna, with an ice bucket shower! Loved it. The lady working there was so welcoming and explained us everything. There are also the fitness room and massage/pedicure rooms (didn't use).
The only negative thing about wellness zone is that it's super hard to reach if you have any mobility issues (so many steps up and down, no wonder there were almost no elderly people at the pool)
I'd come again, but would check before arrival whether the staff knows what their customer service has offered. If you're having mobility problems, this is not the right...
Read moreVery good hotel, but not great. My love and I decided to spend a few days in beautiful Opatija and visit their otherwise beautiful Advent. We had never been in Opatija Advent so we decided to spend a short winter break on our beautiful Adriatic Sea. The hotel we chose, Palace Bellevue, was very good for us in the end. Namely, parts of the hotel are excellent, and parts need finishing touches, so very good, not great. First of all, the staff. The staff was up to the task, professional, polite and courteous. From the people working at the reception, to the people working in the kitchen and restaurant to the people working in the wellness area (gym, saunas, swimming pools). I have no complaints. My compliments. The sauna is excellent, there is a choice between Finnish and Turkish saunas, the pool is nice and large filled with sea water. That part is also great. The hotel itself is decorated in and out in antique style. It is beautiful inside and out, except for parts that need to be repaired. I mostly mean the windows, which are in pretty bad condition. They look dilapidated and everything comes through them when they are closed, noises and cold air in the early morning hours. Our room, which was nice, had very bad windows through which we could very clearly hear the operation of the plant below the room. I think it was the ventilation system and maybe the boiler room. I'm not sure, but it's not nice to hear a buzzing sound when you want to sleep. New windows would solve that problem. The bathroom with the toilet was spacious and nice, I can say clean, although there was a little mold around the handle by the bathtub. But that's a small thing, not a complaint. The biggest problem is the old and dilapidated windows, because after a wonderful day spent in the sauna and pool, and after a fine and very tasty food in the restaurant, a person should be able to rest undisturbed in the room he and...
