As loyal Titanium Lifetime Bonvoy members, we really wanted to love this hotel but it was a bit of a mixed bag to be honest.
We got a taxi from Split airport and it cost €55 which we found expensive seeing as it only took around 15mins. Uber was much cheaper and I would recommend using this service instead of taxis when you stay in Split.
Service was friendly from Reception staff and our high floor room was lovely (if a little small) with curved picture windows that were floor to ceiling.
The bathroom was a little basic and definitely lacked amenities provided in other Marriott hotels that we’ve stayed in.
The spa is really good with a beautiful sauna, steam room, ice experience, cold rain shower, pool and jacuzzi. However, the shape of the pool means that only 1 or 2 people can swim lengths at a time which is a bit unfortunate. That said, the pool temperature was refreshing and the views from the lounge chairs are lovely.
Breakfast was quite basic again, compared to some other Marriotts we’ve stayed in but there was enough to keep you mostly happy and hot items were prepared for you on request.
We did encounter an issue on our second day where the breakfast staff were not informed of our free breakfast as Titanium members so this was a little embarrassing - especially as it was mentioned at our table in front of other guests. My husband was not happy and had to go down to reception and sort it out which was not a great start to the day. It appears that breakfast is not free for Bonvoy Titanium members at the AC Split which is strange as we have never encountered this issue at the 50+ Marriott hotels we have stayed in around the world. It would appear that this benefit is discretionary at this hotel. My husband did ask for the hotel manager to contact him to discuss this and other issues but he never reached out to us so that was disappointing.
Service from Maya in breakfast was very good though and she was very helpful with recommendations on things to do in the local area - thank you Maya!
We found the walk to the old town only around 15mins (downhill on the way there and slightly uphill on the way back) so this wasn’t a major issue for us but it’s something to bear in mind.
We did find that the hotel is geared much more towards business travellers rather than tourists so this is another thing to be aware of.
The rooftop was also undergoing maintenance when we were there so this was a a shame as we would have liked to have gone up to see the views, especially as the hotel is one of the highest buildings in the area.
Finally, the area the hotel is in is a bit strange. There’s not much around it apart from some gambling establishments and dodgy looking shops. For a luxury hotel, we feel that it’s an odd decision to have put it where it is.
Split old town is lovely though so we would come back again but would probably not choose to stay at the AC again and would stay in the heart of the old town which would be...
Read moreWe booked the corner view room and the views are simply stunning and as it is the tallest building in split you can see pretty much everything. The room was very clean and modern with all the facilities you need. Bed was huge and really comfortable. The location is around a 25-30 minute walk away from the centre however Ubers down to the centre are around €4-5 so pretty cheap. There is a supermarket in the shopping mall across from the hotel for any needs. The spa is also excellent, the pool and whirlpool you can sit and enjoy the panoramic views of Split. Also boasting a steam room and sauna and treatments can be booked as well. We hired a car and there is underground parking for €20 per night. Felt that was a little excessive given it is not in a particularly busy parking area in general and thought it could be included but it was secure and easy. The restaurant was ok, but would recommend going out for dinner as lots of much better places with way better food and options in the centre and surrounding areas. I would have given 5 stars but the drop was down to the staff. Some are nice but quite a few not really interested and I felt like I was bothering some of the staff on reception when asking questions. Walking into the hotel you pass reception and rarely do they even stick their head up to say hello or acknowledge you. Also in the restaurant we had an experience where I had to get up and fetch the menus myself as the waiter told us to just sit wherever and seemed more interested in the bigger groups, even after noticing this we still had to wait a while for someone to ask us for our drinks order, we just felt a bit left out and almost left to go elsewhere if there was more options nearer the hotel. This ran with the vibe of not really being interested like reception at times. To be clear some of the staff were really nice and friendly. I would probably stay again for the rooms, facilities and views but was a little disappointed to feel a bit unwelcome at times given that it is a stunning, very modern and...
Read moreWait at least until the end of this year to stay at AC Hotel by Marriott Split. I think it has a potential to be a decent hotel. But for now, they have a few issues.
pool/spa/gym NOT available until the end of August (I find charging the guests full price while not having all the amenities not very fair.) bad smell (new building smell) that causes really terrible headache. This will take some time to disappear. service quality is unstable (receptionists are fumbling. Servers are taking away breakfast plates before guests are finished eating, etc) food (especially breakfast eggs—omelet, sunnyside-up, etc) is made in a rush and end up being served in poor quality no in-room dining (yet? Or will it never be available?)
While the hotel’s website claim that it’s about ten minutes to the old town, it is actually more like 25 mins away by foot. By car services, it can be around ten mins, provided that there’s no traffic jam.
The view isn’t too bad. Rooms are quite but the showerhead is difficult to pull out of its holder—I ended up tearing my skin on my hand and bleeding.
For an example of food that was not prepared properly, please take a look at my “sunny side up” fried eggs. Lunch was better but there were only a couple of tables of diners.
All in all, I think they rushed the opening. At the very least, for the “new building” smell, they should have waited longer until accepting guests. Guests are not test subjects, but I felt that we were. I felt like I came to a rehearsal. But then why should I pay a hefty price to see...
