We stayed at Hotel Gaia/ San Antonio in Podstrana 7-11 October||We arrived in the dark and the letters on Hotel Gala were not illuminated so we weren’t sure we were in the right place until we checked with reception in the San Antonia sister hotel.|We had a triple bed room. 2 twin beds and one sofa bed no 73|The safe didn’t work.|The first night 2 slats fell from the sofa bed |We informed reception and housekeeping promptly came and replaced the slats and gave us another safe |Tuesday night the slats fell out again and we noticed that rubber grips in the frame were missing. The bed also collapsed in the middle where the bed folds out. We tried to secure the slats with tissue paper and informed reception. |On our return in the evening nothing had been done. |We expressed concern and were given another room (84) for our friend to sleep in. |It was dark and late so we didn’t inspect the room fully. During the night there was dripping from a ceiling light fitting into a bucket!|We complained and Ivana Vileta, who had been very helpful throughout our stay came to see both rooms. She offered to put a towel in the bucket to muffle the noise and would try to get the sofa bed fixed.|That evening we saw the a table had been wedged under the bottom half of the bed to prevent the slats falling from that end but nothing could be fitted under the top half as springs prevented it. |We were offered a choice of the 2 rooms for our friend to sleep in, no other room was available and we were offered 20% discount in the hotel restaurant which we accepted. |The waiter was abrupt and rude. Described the seafood in the seafood tagliatelle as sea bass and tuna, it came with just mussels. I ordered seafood salad and I received risotto. We ordered bread, none came. |When we said we wanted what we ordered I was told the risotto was better than the salad and he said he didn’t say the tagliatelle came with other fish. We left expressing disappointment and frustration |In the morning the receptionist asked us to pay for the wine. We had drunk some while we were waiting for our food. We asked to speak to the manager as the wine bill needed to be addressed with all the other issues we had experienced. We were told to come back in 30 minutes which we did. |A long conversation ensued with the manager (Branimir) insisting that it was reasonable to give us a room with a leeking ceiling without informing us of the issue before hand. He wanted to charge us 44€ for the wine but reduced this to 14€ as we insisted we had only drunk half of it! No apology was given for the broken bed or appalling service in the restaurant. The only thing we were able to receive was the use of the room with the leek until 7pm when we had to leave the hotel instead of checking out at 11am. Very disappointing experience and we certainly won’t return ||The positives were:|Ivana arranged for us to have 3 packed lunches on the day of our boat trip as our early departure meant we couldn’t have breakfast|The bathroom was clean and had a powerful shower|Reception staff were helpful especially Ivana|We had a small balcony ( but...
Read moreWe Stayed in gala hotel split for One week. We booked a classic room with balcony, sofa/sofabed and a doublebed. If you look the Hotels own pics about this roomtype it seems to be spacious and cute bc theres kind a Wall between the sofa/tv area and bed.|Well What we get was a tiny room with one wooden chair and tiny |Balcony oh and the bed. No sofa, no hanging area. Since we were staying 7 days and the room really wasnt what u could expect i felt really bad the whole week. First when i asked about the room that isit really a classic room? The reception was like yea madam, all our luxury rooms Are in different building. Like that was what i asked. I asked if we could change our room but it wasnt posssible. I did not ask for a upgrade or anything like that, just to get the room i booked and payed for. Almost 900 euros and what i get was just a bad feeling. And that is a big amount. I compared many Hotels before i booked this one and well i think we could have get a better one with lower cost since this room was not what to expect. So the customer Service aint so good. And they really should change some of the classic Rooms to Standard bc theres a really big difference. Our room neighbours had a spacious classic room with a big balcony, that what all the Rooms should be if they are going to sell those with same price. there is also really strong smell on the corridor. All n all the rooms a still quite tidy, Cleaning ladies visited every day and they were friendly. If the reception staff would have Fixed the room problem i might visit again but they didnt even try so i really cant recommend this place. ||Hotel is located right next to the beach. |And next to a little foodMarket and a bus stop. So it is really easy to visit in split or omis. Also the shopping centres mall of split and One are easy to find. Just take a buss like 10mins and little walking. |Hotels restaurant is fine and not expensive. Breakfast is ok but not like |"oh wow!" Same staff everyday.||For Dinner i recommend restaurant jure wich is located near this Hotel on the beach. And ask for a table right next to the ocean when the sun is going Down! ||We missed some activitites during the week. Like renting water scooters or something like that. Receptionist did not know where we could rent those or find some other water activities to do. Hotel has a inside pool and its located in Hotel San Antonios top floor. Try it for once and look from the up when the sun...
Read moreGala has three buildings. We stayed in bldg. #1 which is supposedly the newer one. Rooms are clean but have an undefinable odor when you first enter - not in a good way. We had two rooms and both had the smell. Beds are too soft and our "large" bed was actually two matrasses side by side - each with its own sheets and blanket. This arrangement leads to some interesting positions if you are traveling with a significant other.||The main building is on the beach and has a gym and pool on the top floor. On chillier days, my kids loved the pool. Lounges are free but beach towels are $2 per towel for three days. If you want to exchange the towel for a new one within that time, they will charge you again. Reception staff are great and very helpful. ||Restaurant Kuzina [in the hotel] turned out to be one of the better eateries on this stretch of beach. Pizza is prepared in a wood burning oven and tastes very good. The grilled squid was a touch too fishy [they did not clean out the inside before grilling] but the Octopus was just right. They also have a few dishes "Under Lid" which means they are slow baked in clay pots [under a clay lid] for up to 3 hours. These are for 4 people and cost $80. We tried the Lamb Under Lid - nice experience but not worth the money.||One of the nice things here is being able to walk the beach for about a mile, past gorgeous marina with large yachts, various little eateries and many different people - very relaxing.||The beach is made up of smaller pebbles, unlike the rocks around Dubrovnik so water shoes are not...
