Dated hotel, in need of refurbishment works, I do not consider it a 4 star hotel, given the state and services, it is a 3 star.|The breakfast is poor, few options and the pastries and bread very dry. Juices are not natural and there is no orange juice, just as coffee is not espresso.|Dated rooms, although our family member was in the room next to ours and was slightly more modern. Bathroom looks so old and dirty. |Do not drink tap water, the hotel (4 stars!!) only gives 1 bottle of water on the first day, the following ones have to be paid... I found it bizarre, even more so that we are in a country that should not drink tap water.|Super dirty elevators, corridors with sloppiness in maintenance.|Electricity outlets in the rooms are not westernized, they are all 110 V, if you don't bring an adapter it is not possible to charge anything. |Friendly reception staff and helped in arranging a transformer so we could have our appliances charged.|From the doorman to the breakfast room staff there will be a lot of approach to exchange money, it bothers to have this conversation constantly. Many restaurants accept dollars and euros, but it's good to have a few pesos for some need, because not everyone exchanges at the best rate. |The Hotel has a Coffee Shop Restaurant outside, we had lunch there on January 5th and I paid in pesos, at night the first question of the waiter was not what I wanted to eat, but if I had a card to pay the bill... I told him that I had pesos and in extreme arrogance he told me that it was not possible to pay in cash, not even after saying that at lunch he had made payment that way... Imagine how they treat the tourists! Of course, the employees' business is to make low exchange rates and earn from these transactions. |This shows well the schemes inside the hotels, in the morning it's one thing and at night another... and no one from the Hotel Management wants to know that this happens!|The internet in the hotel is slow or almost nil, I advise you to buy a local card with 10G in Havana and it costs €25. We bought it in an official store, you need a passport and debit or credit card. |In short, this hotel does not leave any nostalgia and I will not...
Read moreI have 30 years experience in Cuba and this is surely in the top ten of negative experiences. First it's an old hotel from the glorious times of Havana. They tried to renovate but without success. The lobby looks ok and the rooms as well on first sight. But the elevator is not working properly. You have to call reception to send you the elevator and they are not always reacting. 2 times I had to walk down from the 24th floor. Yes I am fat and it's probably good for me but I still have sour muscles and it's just horrible. If you want to use the elevator you need hotel staff and the elevator is stopping when and where on it's own will. Then the hotel has no warm water. I don't understand how in a country hot as Cuba they manage to provide only ice cold water in the room. Since three days I am staying here and cannot take a shower. Dont forget I paid 600 Euro for 4 nights. My safe is as well not working and since those three days they were not able to send someone to fix. Any chance of getting some reimbursement. Hahahaha not in Cuba. I know Cuba and you will always find some difficulty. But mostly the Cuban people make up for it with friendlyness and trying everything in there power to help. Here not. And what really made me super angry was the following. On top of the hotel is a discotheque which I wanted to visit with my wife. Since we are here with our 2 years old son we invited our niece of 13 years old to babysit. Guess what? Of course a super unfriendly and arrogant security guy forbid it. She was not supposed to sleep in the room. Only looking for the baby. But this rude person was very strict. With all the bad things going on in that hotel a little bit kulanz I expected. They offered me to book a second room for 300 dollars a night though. I was ready to explode. Like I said: Worst experience in Cuba and please avoid at any cost. They really destroyed my holiday and I am even member of Meliá rewards. I think I will drown my membership in...
Read moreI was there for a little over a week and July/03/2022 was my last day and everything was great, well, almost everything. The buffet was awesome and the food was great quality and i am a chef, so that says a lot, there was not that many options of food, but it was good enough, the employees were pretty awesome and nice. Just in the last night that i was there in July/03/2022 they messed up pretty bad, we went to dinner and just to find out that there was no buffet, it was closed, my wife and i went to the lobby and not only they did not know why the buffet was closed, but also they didn't know what to tell us, by that time a bunch of other guest were also there. Finally they sent us to a restaurant in the basement (which it looked awesome) but just to get mistreated and almost kicked out of there. We all went back to the lobby and we ended up eating at the restaurant next to the lobby, food was great but limited. The other thing was "the unecessary security" it looked like gestapo watching every move and constantly asking question. I hated that. But if you ask me, i would go back. I was at hotel National and even though they are better when it comes to gestapo/security, because they don't have any, or at least that "we can see" the rooms are much smaller and the sight is not as good because they only have 8 floor building i think. Habana libre has 4 start and then some, kudos to you and PLEASE at least dress those gestapo in a way that people do NOT notice them as much. Thank you for...
