As with others. We booked this apartment complex due to its good reviews. Especially those saying they have come here time and time again. This holiday did not start particularly well. My partner became ill with suspected food poisoning as a result of her in flight meal. We arrived around midnight and were greeted by the member of staff who is on at that time. We were given a key and then she pointed where to go. In our case apt 32C We went up a rather tired and noisy lift to floor 3 and opened the apartment door. Instantly we saw the filthy floor with stains, the grubby smelly bathroom with the broken shower held up with someone’s old ear plugs, the torn furniture. My heart sank, but I knew there was little I could do at the time when exhausted with a sick partner. The next day was pretty much a write off for my partner so not a great deal happened. I did, however, notice the bed was rock hard. I sleep on my side so actually woke a few times with a dead arm. We had one small thin sheet on the bed and in an overhead cupboard were 2 smelly pillows and a smelly, stained blanket. That sort of smell when something has been left damp too long. I noticed the cobwebs above the shower, the cutlery that had not been properly cleaned and the filthy stained cooking / food prep area. On the second morning my partner started feeling better so we spoke to 2 other guests. One across from us said her room was tired and dirty and would not be back. She was a regular visitor to the area and had family nearby, and stated other places were far better. The people next to us also said they were disappointed and had also booked based on the reviews. They had actually even looked at a different hotel close by and considered moving. To be honest we would have left that day had it not been for the message on my phone that the Jet2 rep was due to come over to assist with queries. My partner met the Jet2 rep, Hollie, and brought her to our apartment. We showed her the apartment and she said she would speak to the owners and have them deep clean the room and open a complaint file on what we had said and she had seen. We had hired a car so decided to take off, hoping to come back to a clean room. About an hour or so later I received a call from the Jet2 rep saying instead of cleaning the room we would be offered a different room. We got back and were given a key for another room on the same floor. It was basically the same level of cleanliness. It was late on so we spent another night in the room. Now perhaps they had changed the pillows when we had been out, because on this night I had to take them off the bed. The pillows had that horrible damp / mould smell. I instead tried to sleep using towels as pillows. That was the final straw! We mentioned this to the hotel receptionist and her response was simply “well, we are the cheapest”. That said it all. In the early hours of the morning, I said to my partner that I had simply had enough and wanted to leave, even if that meant going home. My partner was of the same mind. She spoke to the people next to us about the hotel they had looked at previously as they had also considered swapping. My partner had a look at the hotel, literally across and up from Mariella, and said “ We are moving!” The other place was about £70 per night and it was a small price to pay to save the holiday. That’s only about £15 per night more than Mariella. The difference was a 6ft wide soft bed with clean sheets, 2 separate rooms, amazing accommodating hosts. Obviously, we had to pay to stay there but frankly it was a small price to pay to save the holiday. How Jet2 now deal with this will of course be a separate review. In summary. I can’t understand the good reviews. Perhaps the 2 rooms we looked at and the 2 other guests we spoke to were...
Read moreI stayed here for a week on a jet2 package. This is a small family run hotel and wasn’t very full which was amazing considering it’s August! No fight for the sunbeds! The hotel is about an hour drive from the airport |The apartment was huge for just me. Came with hob, fridge, microwave and all the utensils needed which was great. The hotel is spotless and cleaned daily. It is a bit dated and could do with modernising but for me as long as it’s clean I am fine! |Location wise it’s an hour away from Paphos which is a shame it’s not closer but that’s not the hotels fault at all it was just sold to me as a Paphos hotel. That being said I got the bus from the local bus station down to Paphos and then to the harbour for a walk around there. I also used the day ticket which only cost €6.50 to hop on and off buses to go to the tomb of the kings. The buses are cheap and really reliable! |The supermarket is a 5-10 minute walk and sells everything you’ll need so I wouldn’t even bother bringing towels, shampoo, toiletries etc as you can buy it all here! I can’t get over how cheap everything is! |The town square is a 5-10 minute walk the opposite direction and is fully of cafes, shops, bars etc with loads of variety of foods to cater for everyone. Again it is so reasonably priced! |We booked a boat trip through the hotel which charge a €5 booking fee but it was still only €20 total so worth every penny. It takes you along the coast to the blue lagoon and then you have an hours swim and wine, juice and fruit when you get back on the I can’t recommend this trip highly enough. It was incredible! |Latchi is the next town along and about 40 minute walk or 10 mins taxi/bus so worth going to have a look. It’s a little harbour town and has some lovely restaurants and shops as well as the beach with sunbeds! |I would recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a chill holiday if you aren’t too bothered about going out and about. It’s clean, the staff are friendly, there’s enough locally for...
Read moreRecently returned from our first trip to Cyprus, and would happily return to the island and the Mariela. The apartment was in c block overlooking the car park toward the sea, this was fine as it only had the sun first thing in the morning, so it wasn’t too hot, those overlooking the pool were apparently boiling! A lot of refurbishment has gone on over winter, and our apartment was in good condition, nice and clean, and the furniture was mostly new, a fairly firm bed but very comfy. |As many have said the town is only a 5 min walk, with loads of places to eat and drink, and the bus station is also there, so getting to Latchi, is dead easy. The beach however is a trek, it was a 20 minute brisk walk, which while it doesn’t sound much, is made much worse when its 30+ degrees, and as many have said there are no facilities when you get there. Having said that its quite a nice beach, with a fair bit of sand, which not all beaches in the area have, indeed its sandy enough to be an important nesting area for turtles, so you need to be a bit careful. The sea though is lovely, with large breakwaters keeping it calm, and i went snorkelling there most mornings before breakfast before it got too hot. |The only downside was getting a bed by the pool, not sure if its always like it, but there was a lot of sunbed wars, with most reserved early, which would be annoying peak weeks. |That said if you want a relaxing holiday, this is the...
