Hostal La Querencia — Hotel in Cuenca

I stayed here one month after having a horrible experience at another place.||||An unassuming looking spot from the outside, I took a look in the door one day as the previous place was in the same neighborhood. As soon as I got through the entrance, I was impressed. A huge place, very nicely decorated run by an elderly couple who I could immediately tell would tolerate no nonsense.||||I got one of the cheaper rooms downstairs. Picture a basic motel room plussed up with shelves, desk etc. Great hot water! laundry service, 2 different Wifi routers to ensure good coverage. Small kitchen which was still OK for the 8 rooms here. Very comfortable furnishings, great blankets and bed etc.||||Lola keeps the place SPOTLESS. They both are very diligent and great people.||||Front desk has plenty of maps and info if you are new. Good security too.||||Neighborhood is ideal. You can see the city square from the small balcony and it's a 5 minute walk into town. Very quiet area at night.||||Everything you need within a couple blocks. Several stores, a great bakery, restaurants etc. ||||I have no intentions of looking anywhere else when I come back. Not a party place...

Really quaint. It was fun being a part of the old city. The family said the property had been in the family for 200 years. For people that are into old architecture, this is the place for them. I couldn't stop admiring the old flooring in my room. As mentioned, the rooms are basic but are perfectly cleaned and the rooms are made up every day..which is really nice to come back to after a long day in the city. I thought the location was excellent, near enough to all the action (central park, restaurants, incredible churches) but also required that I get a little bit of exercise daily. You could walik out the door and take a cab but it is only 6 blocks from the center of everything. There is a refrigerator in the kitchen available for use and you can cook anything you want in the well-equipped kitchen. The owners are wonderful and extremely helpful and you get the feeling that their place is your place....when you factor in the cost - I stayed in the budget room...staying here was a no brainer. Laundry...

Pros:||- Extremely quiet room and hostel, almost no other guests staying there. So quiet so had a good sleep.||||Cons:||-Far from centro, in an isolated area. police said that we shouldn't around there after 6pm.||-owner unpredictable and unprofessional. No reception after the evening. e.g. i noticed some hairs and stuff on the sheets, and no one was at reception . Its around 11. I heard the owners watching tv upstairs, so i softly knocked on the door and asked nicely. But she totally lost her temper and blew up! She then said theres no more rooms available so i must leave, even though the whole place is like...
