The stay was from July 17th to July 22nd, 2022.||||Let me start by saying that we had no real expectations on what to expect from Hostal Curinan.||||We took a bus in from Quito and took a taxi to Hostal Curinan not knowing that they had a vehicle that they would send to pick us up for the same amount as a taxi.||||Upon arrival, we were greeted with smiles and were taken to our room which was clean and had wonderful views from the balconies.||||The hostel is run by a lovely family, Matilde, Jose and their son Inty and their employee Joselito.||||Our bed was comfortable and I did peak in other available rooms to see how they compared and they all were in good shape, I also to mention how water showers are great but need to run the water for a bit until it comes through.||||Breakfast was simple, bread rolls, fresh juice, tea or coffee followed by some scrambled eggs.||||They enquired about what we were in Otavalo to see and do and accommodated us with transportation if not already booked/busy.||||There was nothing negative that we found, except an announcement that would start very early in the morning and the street light that came...
Read moreGreat place. The hosts are awesome (and speak English), with the accommodation and breakfast equally as good. Located up the hill, you can see it from the bus station. The walk may put some off (or get a cheap taxi), but it provided the perfect quiet spot to hike to the surrounding attractions. I did the waterfall (good), condor park (awesome 11.30 demonstration), lookout loop. Or pop down into town for the market, where the locals greet you along the way. Very clean rooms with big comfortable beds in a safe neighbourhood. Great place.
Tip. If you are going to do the same hike. MapsMe has all the trails. Expect the route from the waterfall up to the road for the Condor park. You can take the road on the left of the waterfall for a longer easier route. Or take 1 of 2 trails on the right hand side. After the bridge go right towards the accommodation and take their trail up. Do not take the trail that heads up steeply from the upper look out at end of the stairs. This trail was scary with slippery vertical sections that you need climb up and hope you don't slip. Otherwise a really good 10km...
Read moreWe only stayed one night here but wish we could have stayed more. The hosts are a wonderful couple. We hope to return to Otavalo and when we do we will stay here again. I spoke with Matilde and Jose, the owners, for a while the evening we were there. I was searching for a stronger WiFi signal than the one in our room. They were sitting by the fire in a large common room chatting with one of the other guests. They have an interesting history. They are curious to know how they can make their place better for guests, (e.g. better WiFi in the rooms) and they appreciated the suggestion and spoke of all the other changes they had made over the years to accommodate guests from...
