🚨 PATTERN OF AGGRESSION, SLANDER & FALSE POLICE THREATS - AVOID FOR YOUR SAFETY
It is our duty to warn the international traveler community about the dangerous modus operandi of this establishment. Our experience was not an isolated error but a clear pattern of hostile and fraudulent behavior.
UNJUSTIFIED VERBAL AGGRESSION: After leaving to get dinner, we returned solely to retrieve a forgotten cellphone (our guide's phone!). The owner greeted us with screaming, insults, and disproportionate aggression. There was no dialogue, only immediate verbal violence.
SLANDER & FALSE ACCUSATIONS: To justify their actions, the owners brazenly lied and invented stories about us (slander) when speaking to the police. It is evident they have a prepared script to manipulate the situation in their favor.
THREATS AS A TACTIC: Their go-to resource for intimidating clients is to threaten to call the police without any valid reason, creating a situation of extreme stress and fear. This is a recurrent tactic, as confirmed by other reviews.
FINANCIAL FRAUD: Despite the room being left completely untouched (beds not slept in, towels unused, amenities unopened), they refused to refund our payment. They prioritize theft and confrontation over basic ethics.
CONCLUSION: This is not just bad service. This is a business that operates through intimidation, defamation, and fraud. The police were witnesses to the entire event, but their authority was ignored by the owners.
FINAL WARNING: For your physical, emotional, and financial safety, AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. There are dozens of options in this city where you will be treated with respect and dignity. Do not risk your trip or...
Read moreThis is a no frills choice, but one with a lot of positives. First is the price. Second, location. Only three blocks from the market and central to anything you might need in Otavalo. The family owners are friendly and very helpful without being intrusive. The room I inhabited was clean and unlike most in this price range ($9.00 per night), it had everything one might need: a place for your suitcase, a decent bed, a good hot shower, plenty of hooks to hang things, adequate space for toiletries in the bathroom, and a night stand by the bed. A solid internet connection and a television. I will stay here again on my next trip to Otavalo. An...
Read moreGot into Otavalo and had seen this hostel on a travel blog. 6 rooms to a floor with a bathroom on each end of the hallway. A little chipped paint and a bit run down, but the place was very clean, had a nice room with a comfortable bed. For less than $10 what more can you ask? The couple who ran the place were very nice, and they own a little tiendita that is on the bottom floor next to reception. Just a few blocks away from the plaza de ponchos, the main tourist attraction in the city, as well as very close to the bus terminal. Really...
