Thank you very much — a very lovely family across three generations including Romy and the daughter Daniela. All very nice and helpful from the beginning to end. 100% recommended if you’re planning your trip to San Cristobal.
I booked it because another guest house owner (I wouldn’t disclose the name) at the last minute a month before my trip canceled my booking, and I was desperate to look for alternatives! Luckily the owner (and administrator) of Romy was responsive to confirm my details, and kindly offered airport drop off as I depart — among the “alternatives” I looked up Romy was the first to respond to me to confirm everything and answer my questions even though they’re not the cheapest.
Honestly all guest houses in San Cristobal are of similar price range and offering (if you want a private shower kind of room rather than shared bathroom), or you go lower to a shared bathroom kind of hostel, or you go a notch higher to fine hotels like the new Hotel Indigo under IHG. Romy offered a perfect mid-point budget, perfect if you’re here for just a few days or a week.
A little note about the location is that it’s next to the navy base — so there may be early morning training and alarms there at random times. But the positive aspect of that is that it’s relatively quiet (away from the ports and town centre) yet safe (no drunk or dodgy people on the streets although there may be sea lions lying around) at night as you stroll around the area or back to the Hostal. The surroundings were just a sleepy residential area with families and dogs.
Nonetheless, there’re convenience stores, souvenir shops, restaurants of all budget types, and laundry shops all at stone’s throw.
Regarding the comfort of the rooms, they’re ok as long as your neighboring rooms are not filled with young party groups — which’s beyond the owners’ control but I hope you’d respect the comfort of fellows in the other rooms if you decide to stay here! And a small suggestion of improvement was that if there’re better block-out curtains or blinds for the rooms it’d be even better. Otherwise it includes all the necessary things you’d need including a fridge, water kettle, clean beddings and towels, hot tap water, air-conditioning, and WiFi (don’t expect the WiFi to be super strong or consistent, but it’s the same issue for literally everywhere on...
Read moreA comfortable two-night stay due to hospitality and a large and clean room. The family members were warm (Daniela especially deserves big thanks!) and helped us arrange a tour in addition to picking us up from the port and dropping us off at the airport. Easily accessible to the main town and nice to stroll around the area day and night. They gave us fruit daily in our room and for $5 extra per day/person, the family will cook a nice breakfast. Drinking water is available to replenish as needed. The family also had some life vests and allowed us to use it for free. If you’re looking for a budget place to stay without compromising comfort, choose this place...
