When you arrive at the hotel it is quite a spectacle. Long road in with palm trees either side, nice hotel front, and your thinking this looks the business. Then, you go to your room. The apartment blocks outside look quite classy, walk in to the stairwell and it’s very basic, looks very like a 1960s block of flats or a scene from cell block H. The rooms are very dated, I am pretty sure the furniture was built and fitted around the same time as the pyramids were built. If you have the pleasure of the top floor, first apartment (we are currently in 35301) you get the beautiful sound of the ventilation vibrating through the ceiling for about 3 hours every evening. There is no sound proofing what so ever in the walls, floor or ceiling. I asked to be moved to a room that was upgraded similar to the pictures and quieter, I was offered the same style old rooms, and it was even noisier as you had people all round you. Got told a technician would fix the vent, noise had stopped when I had returned…. Because it’s on a timer for the same times every day. On to the bathroom, if there is a silicone shortage in the world, it is due to these shower enclosures. They are a shambles! Toilets work, thankfully. Apartments are no where near a 5star hotel rating! Our cleaner has been brilliant, nothing is a problem for him. We have a heated pool outside our block, good for the kids as it is shallower. You will probably meet Mohamed at the bar, brilliant guy and he runs that bar like a machine AND he will go out his way to help you out. 10/10 Be careful on the loungers, quite a lot are broken or damaged. My wife found this out when the lounger gave way as she moved and trapped two fingers in the mechanism, lucky they didn’t break! The supervisor came up, didn’t agree with me that the lounger was broken until I showed him, he then lifted the broken lounger and put it on the other side of the pool and gave us a better one. Yep, the damaged one was left for someone else to use. The mind boggles. The gym is pretty good, Moussa is brilliant. If you need advice or help with any equipment he’s your man. He keeps the place spotless and is always happy to help. At the splash bar you will meet Shodhy, most layed back guy about but is always there to keep you topped up and a good bit of banter. The other guys can be a bit hot and cold with you, some times they serve you other times you are left sitting for a while and eventually have to order your food and drinks yourself. I actually got a telling off for getting my own drinks even though we were left sitting for ten minutes. Confused with that one. The swim up bar, if you’re brave enough to jump in, is manned by El Gendy, he is constantly on the go and you don’t get a chance to go thirsty. Cracking big guy! We tried the a la carte restaurants, steak house and Asian were really good. We tried the fish restaurant - which you pay for, and to be honest, it was pretty poor. You are charged for your drinks, which we only found out when we got the bill. It is the same drinks you get in your all inclusive. The food wasn’t up to the price in terms of quality. We were asked to review our meal and I put down about being charged for drinks, the manager of that restaurant actually fell out with us and would walk past us without a word for the remainder of our holiday. Don’t ask for a review if you don’t like the answer. The bar! Right, this is a tad irritating. There is a nightclub which is open till 2am. The bar stops serving you all inclusive drinks at 12:00, if you want a drink after this time you have to pay for it! Yes, they charge you for the same drinks you have already paid for! I am currently still here, and honestly, I don’t think I would rush back. This has been said by quite a few folk we have met. Oh, if you want peace from constant sales, ask for a red flag when getting your towels. You’ll...
Read moreWe stopped in Block 35, family room 8th to 15th March 2025. Arrived late on Saturday, but reception was ready and friendly from the off. Asked to sit on sofas whilst we had a drink and quick group brief before heading for something to eat. Our check-in is all sorted by the time we had done. Room was a family size, so very spacious for the 2 of us, starting to show signs of age. However, very clean and well maintained. The same for the whole complex, exceptionally clean and being maintained, gardens beautiful and well tendered. Staff couldn't do enough for you at every bar and restaurant, reception and cleaners. A stand out for us was Lily in the Animation crew. She introduced herself on the Sunday and checked in on us daily, kept us informed what was going on each day, and answered all our questions. The whole animation team did an epic Friday night show, which we thought was the best of the week. Plenty of bars to choose from throughout the day around the pools and at the beach. Need to ask for a glass at the splash bar later on as the plastic cups can taste a bit of the cocktails and taint the wine. Our favourite bar was the Family Bar in the pool right outside our block. Ahmed Moharam makes great cocktails and remembers how you like them, Mojito extra sour!! Accessibility is good for wheelchairs and buggies as nearly flat everywhere, with a few short ramps where needed. There are no lifts that we saw in the accommodation, so stairs only to floors 2 and 3. A good range of drinks and the local beer and white wine not bad had far worse at other hotels. Generally good wifi coverage across the site, including the beach and their App, easy to navigate, we managed to book in at every restaurant in the week we were there. Only 1 wasn't to our taste on the last night, and when Lily and her boss heard, they sorted us a special lunch, which was the best of the week. Tipping isn't mandatory but appreciated by all, regardless of dollars, euros, pounds, or Egyptian pounds. Please bear in mind they can't bank any coins, so occasionally, staff ask if you can swap their coins for notes, which is understandable. Lots of seating around the pools and the beach never struggled once to get beds. Obviously, you need to be up earlier to get the front rows but not at silly o'clock. Reception was so helpful each time we asked about things and exte ded our check out to 5pm due to late pick up. Bags collected and looked after by security at the front of reception. The whole site felt safe and secure from the off, and whilst some of the buildings starting to show their age in the details, there appears to be a refurbishment programme going on, and they look amazing. We would definitely come back here or another Sunrise hotel. Only did 1 main trip down to Luxor booked through Tui. It was a long day, but we'll worth it. Reception organised us a pack up breakfast for the journey as 5 am. start. Overall, it was a great holiday. I was chilled, and we were blessed with the weather in the high 20s every day and 32 on the last. Some of the nights entertainment was a little tame for us and wanted music on till later, but we also get it's a family hotel. Lily and the team, the hotel staff, and every involved from security to cleaners clearly take pride in the appearance and experience of their guests....
