We booked a one-week all-inclusive stay at The Grand Hotel, Sharm el-Sheikh through Blue Bay Travel who unfortunately outsourced this holiday to Red Sea Holidays because if it had been managed by Blue Bay Travel I'm certain the quality of the hotel would have been so much better. What was a special family treat to rest and recharge after a difficult period turned out to be far from the experience we had expected. From the start, our “junior suite” was not as described — twin beds instead of a king - after raising this, we were moved to the suite we originally booked but that had a broken door handle, and a non-working phone. The following day, we discovered brown, sludge-like water coming from the taps and shower, which also fell off the wall. Despite repeated complaints, it took over 24 hours for anyone to respond, and even then, the repairs were poor. Throughout the week, we encountered multiple maintenance and hygiene issues — leaking toilet, dirty remote, dusty beverage tray, broken fittings, and unclean bedding. The hotel’s advertised 5-star rating is misleading; we’ve stayed in far better 3-star properties. The worst came at the end of our stay when we discovered bed bugs in our bed. Staff moved us to another room at 1am, but by then we were anxious and disgusted. The following morning, we even noticed rat droppings in the bathroom of the new suite. We have made an official complaint however Red Sea Holidays have informed us that basically we've made it all up - really appreciate being called a liar. So what they are trying to say is that we fabricated and exaggerated our experience in the suite. But surely photos and videos do not lie..? We left feeling stressed, unclean, and deeply disappointed. What was meant to be a relaxing family break turned into a week of complaints and discomfort. We hope that Blue Bay Travel reviews their partnership with this hotel because we have booked luxury breaks with Blue Bay Travel before and we have to admit they have gone above and beyond with their service and customer satisfaction so this complaint is not against them at all - responsibility lies entirely with Red Sea Holidays and this hotel that treats paying guests with total disregard and contempt. Every time we had to go to the reception desk to complain or follow up on some maintenance issues that hadn't been addressed, they would refuse to accept there was an issue. This was not a 5-star experience — it was a health and safety concern, and we would not recommend this hotel to anyone. There's a reason why it was at the price point it was.

We arrived early hours of the morning and was upgraded complimentary to an upgraded room Around 1 am, we got to the room and it was pretty bad. The tap was broken in the bathroom. There was a humming noise which we turned off the air-conditioning but it’s still continued all through the night. It was so updated the drain smell and I just didn’t feel comfortable there at all it was quite a long way from the main reception from the hotel so I phoned immediately and asked to be moved. They said we couldn’t be moved into the following day so we didn’t unpack, finally we moved four times because each room that given us was pretty bad until eventually we agreed on one room which wasn’t as bad as the other that they gave us apart from that eventually 24 hours later we could unpack The young man that helped us with our luggage and moving rooms wasn’t the only one we kept seeing people going past viewing different rooms with their cases that looks extremely unhappy so they eventually got a room. He physically threw our cases in this open truck and cracked my case , another lady on the result also had her luggage broken by the same guy by throwing it in this lorry. He clearly had no respect and clearly doesn’t like his job will broke her case. I’ve come back from holiday with a broken case which was totally pristine to be cracked and bashed also a lady there had a wheel smashed off of her suitcase. Please can you make sure staff have a bit more consideration for peoples personal belongings because I feel this is unacceptable. But we started our holiday to be totally honest with you the rooms do need to be upgraded but the surrounding grounds and the immunities of the hotel and the restaurants and the à la carts were totally amazing The outside of the hotel was everything you could ask for clean environment. The service was amazing the pool the beach every single thing about the hotel was great apart from the rooms desperately need to be refurbished. We had an amazing holiday despite losing out on one full day of our holiday we made the most of it and trust me once these rooms have been refurbished this hotel will be absolutely amazing. The food was great but I must say we preferred to go to the à la cart restaurant, the service was great. The staff were amazing. I hundred percent would love to come back , once the rooms have been refurbished

A very good experience with the hotel, albeit some very fundamental issues that shouldnt happen in a 5 star hotel. Hotel is very nice and very large indeed. Pools are nice and plentiful, main issue is they dont seem to clean the pools as the bottom are quite dirty. rooms very nice and we had twin rooms due to large group going. These were standard rooms near the front entrance. Food, well let me start as being a vegetarian, i can honestly say that the standard is very poor in the sense that lack of serving spoons therefore ppl were just using same spoon for everything, this is so wrong on all levels and inhibits cross contamination. Even the vegetable soup for example had wrong sign which contained beef, now just imaging if a sign said this exactly but contained pork, im pretty much sure they wouldn't like that if you were a muslim. Staff were generally good but lack of english made it very difficult but we used google translation which helped anyway. there were lack of options in the main restaurant to be honest and pls keep the veg corner as the veg corner, stop mixing meat with this and also keep the fries separately rather than cooking in same oil as meat, simple. i think they were understaffed hence alot of tables wernt cleaned in time and food wasnt put out quick enough, as 5 star i would expect this simple or don't call yourself 5 star. A La carte, was ok, indian was good but service awful, took us nearly 2 hrs before we had finished. Thai no issues and lovely, Lebanese also great. Italian was the worst, as the set menu was awful and forcing you to buy instead, actually we left and went to main restaurant, better pasta anyway. beach area was nicely done, snorkeling was great and busy, worth doing this even at the hotel. Bar was ok, drinks were awful to be honest and it was really cheap. Soft drinks no problems. Entertainment was good, something everynight. In all besides for the food issues, we had a good time, they need more trained staff and staff that understand without having to explain to them all the time or via translate. I wouldn't come back here, but the price was great so cant argue to be honest.

The Grand Hotel Sharm El Sheikh – A Romantic Getaway Turned into a Nightmare

We stayed at The Grand Hotel Sharm El Sheikh for 3 nights and 4 days in June 2025 under the all-inclusive concept. Unfortunately, this turned out to be one of the worst holiday experiences we’ve ever had. I want to share all the details so others don’t waste their time, money, and expectations like we did.

Disappointment from the Moment of Arrival: At check-in, the receptionist didn’t even look at us until he saw the tip we had placed between our passports. This was the first sign of the hotel’s overall “tip first, service later” policy, which became a theme throughout our stay.

Food Quality and Hygiene Issues: The food was awful. One evening we were served a rotten, mushy watermelon — we even took a photo of it. The restaurants smelled absolutely disgusting and nauseating. Plates, glasses, and cutlery were never clean. We had to wipe every item before using it.

Suspected Food Poisoning: Shortly after returning home, my girlfriend started experiencing severe stomach pain. We strongly suspect it was caused by something she ate at the hotel. This is more than just disappointing — it’s a serious health risk.

Terrible Drink and Beverage Situation: There is no cold water available anywhere — not even in 40°C weather. Only lukewarm water is served throughout the hotel. The minibar in the room doesn’t work, so chilling your own drinks isn’t an option either. Alcohol is low quality, tasteless, and always served warm. When you add ice, it just waters it down and makes it worse.

Filthy Rooms and Poor Housekeeping: Our room was disgusting. There were spider webs and layers of dust on the phone. The slippers looked previously used and had hair on them. We had to wrap t-shirts around the pillows to sleep comfortably. When we opened the bed, we found hair and more signs of poor hygiene. Taking a shower was nearly impossible — one night there was no water at all, and on other nights, the temperature would randomly switch between ice cold and scalding hot with no in-between.

Security Safe Issues: We stored some valuables in the in-room safe and set a code, but it wouldn’t open. We called reception and were told someone would come. After waiting 1.5 hours, we called again, explained that we were in a rush and needed our belongings. The person on the phone raised their voice and rudely said that the person who opens the safe was busy and that we just had to wait. Because of this delay, we missed an important outing and lost money.

Wi-Fi Is a Joke: Wi-Fi is only available in the lobby — and even there, it barely works. The connection is extremely weak and painfully slow. If you want access to proper Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, you have to pay extra. This makes no sense in an all-inclusive resort.

Unprofessional Staff Behavior: Most of the staff seemed only interested in solo female travelers or anyone offering cash tips. Customer satisfaction doesn’t appear to matter at all. You only get service if you tip — and the amount you give determines the quality of attention you receive. That’s unacceptable for a place that markets itself as all-inclusive.

Dirty Pools and Common Areas: The pools were dirty, often with bugs or floating plant debris on the surface. It was clear that cleaning was either not done or done very poorly. Common areas also lacked basic cleanliness.

Only the Sea Is Nice – But That’s Nature, Not the Hotel: Yes, the sea is beautiful, but that’s a natural feature of the region and not unique to this hotel. You can enjoy the same sea at countless other hotels without dealing with all the issues we experienced here.

Final Verdict: The Grand Hotel Sharm El Sheikh is absolutely not a place I would recommend — especially not for a romantic vacation. The hotel fails to deliver on every level: hygiene, service, safety, comfort, and basic hospitality. Our romantic getaway was ruined, and I hope this review helps others avoid the same...

The resort itself is absolutely beautiful. The lobby has had a recent renovation and it’s gorgeous! They were finishing renovations on the ‘terrace bar’ when we arrived and it opened a couple of days before we left and it was great. However, this meant that all the other bars on the resort were no longer open after 5pm whereas at the start of the holiday, they were, and it was nice to have a variety of options. The resort does have a ‘beach’ but not with a seafront that you can just get up and walk into. You have to climb down steps to get into the water as it’s built upon a coral reef.

The staff at the hotel are so incredibly friendly, attentive and knowledgeable of the local area & hotspots. Wesam, who works at the pool near the crepe station was really friendly and helpful. The animation team are amazing as well, especially Alissa and Avatar. As two younger girls it was great to have staff close to our age & also opportunities to go out in the evenings and feel safe with other people if we didn’t want to stay at the resort. Yehir in the main buffet restaurant was also amazing, his service was outstanding. All of the bartenders were great too. The staff at reception were incredibly helpful as well. When we arrived we had problems with the lights and aircon in our room (room 163) and they sent someone to fix it within 15 minutes. One big letdown however is the fact that if you want wifi outside of the lobby, you have to pay for it. It’s not necessarily expensive (we paid £22 for 2 people for 7 days) but if a hotel is advertised as ‘all inclusive’ then it should be just that. The lobby bar was ‘all inclusive’ until 12am and then after that you had to pay for any alcoholic drinks AND by the time we left, you had to pay for any drink you wanted from there, including water. The a la carte restaurants have all inclusive menu options but drinks are at an extra charge. We paid to take part in a traditional Egyptian dinner which was great so i’d recommend paying for that (around £20pp). The drinks menu is pretty limited. There are only 2 or 3 cocktails and they’re not great. The best cocktails we had were at the Lebanese a la carte restaurant, i recommend booking for dinner there. Don’t bother with the Italian a la carte. The drinks were also warm 95% of the time and the bars also had no ice 95% of the time. You’d like to think that in 40°c heat you’d be served ice cold drinks but most of the time that wasn’t the case. We booked to have a massage at the hotel and the massage itself was good but the facilities are pretty poor, it’s basically like a shed with 4 massage tables in.

Overall, the resort is stunning and i would probably go back but there are definitely some areas that need to be improved on. ALSO bring mosquito repellent with you. It’s not the hotels fault obviously but as you are around water, there are mosquitoes. They weren’t too bad but we definitely got bit a few times. In terms of taxi’s you shouldn’t get them from the hotel, they overcharge you so much. We downloaded an app called ‘indrive’ which is basically the Egyptian uber and you can get a 10 minute taxi ride for 70 Egyptian pounds (about £1.20). The taxis from the hotel wanted about 200 Egyptian pounds. Taxis go past the front of the hotel nearly every 30 seconds and they’ll take you pretty much anywhere less than 20 minutes for between 50 and 200 Egyptian pounds, just agree the price...
