⭐ There’s a lot to say – mixed impressions, but mostly disappointing|❌ The Negative|1. Staff asking for positive reviews|We were directly approached by the animation team, who asked us to leave 5-star reviews. That already raised concerns about the credibility of the hotel’s high ratings.||2. The smallest, most uninviting hotel lobby I’ve ever seen|It doesn’t feel like a proper reception area — cramped, dull, no space to sit or relax while waiting.||3. Reception: unhelpful and misleading|We reported a broken safe in our room. After two days of calls and personal visits, nothing changed — only endless “come back in an hour” responses. Eventually, we gave up.|Also, they were dishonest about room availability when we asked to change ours. We were first placed next to the kitchen — the smell of grill smoke filled the room even with the windows closed. When we complained, we were told the only available room was one facing the kitchen of the neighboring hotel — again, unbearable. We later saw other guests complaining about the same thing — rooms not matching the ones advertised.||4. The main restaurant is a disaster|Dirty plates and cutlery, stained and sticky furniture (especially the sofas), broken food stations with missing or jammed lids.|Two outdoor terraces:||One is constantly invaded by crows — stealing food, leaving mess on tables and chairs, and even on guests.||The second is right in the path of thick smoke from the grill due to a poorly placed chimney. You simply can’t sit there.||5. Tiny drink cups in the restaurant|So small it’s laughable. I could pour more liquid into my hands than in those cups.||6. Unequal treatment of guests|There seemed to be different rules depending on nationality. Some guests weren’t allowed to move tables to sit as a group or take more food, while others could do as they pleased. We witnessed this repeatedly — it was uncomfortable.||7. À la carte restaurants are pointless|Especially the Italian one. The only notable differences from the buffet were the soup and desserts. Everything else was nearly identical to what you’d find in the main restaurant.||8. Kids’ pool near the aquapark needs renovation|Rough, unfinished concrete causes scrapes and cuts. It’s not safe for children or adults — this should be fixed urgently.||9. Noisy air conditioning|In both our room and our friends’, the A/C sounded like a jet engine — even at the lowest setting. And we couldn’t open windows because the kitchen from the neighboring hotel was only 10 meters away. No way to cool the room properly without the noise.||✅ The Positive|1. The hotel grounds are lovely|Well-kept landscaping, mature trees, tropical plants, birds walking around. Multiple pools to choose from (not including the waterpark), all clean and pleasant.||2. Room quality varies — new vs old buildings|We stayed in a newly renovated room — fresh, clean, well-equipped. But we met guests in older rooms who were very unhappy. Ask specifically for the renovated block.||3. Kids' club is amazing|Our children ran to the kids’ club every day. We don’t know what magic the animators used, but it worked! Big thanks to Anastasia for creating such a great space.||4. Stunning beach and bay|The beach area has two small coves with dramatic rocky formations — old coral cliffs that are absolutely mesmerizing to explore. It’s a unique and beautiful location.||5. On-site diving center is a hidden gem|Excellent prices and professional instructors. We did our certification here — special thanks to Mustafa, who was incredibly kind and patient with beginners.||6. Local market nearby|A 10–15 minute walk brings you to a market with much better prices than hotel shops or nearby stores. Worth the walk.||🎯 Overall:|Despite the beautiful territory and a few highlights (like diving and the kids’ club), the hotel fails to deliver on basic service and hospitality. The food hygiene, reception service, and facilities fall far short of a 5-star standard. If you’re coming for the sea and nature — it might work for you. If you’re looking for comfort, smooth service, and decent food —...
Read moreWe just got home from a week at Amphoras Beach and I wanted to write an honest review. We stayed in a one bedroom chalet (advertised as a ‘triple’).||I’m conflicted as I write this, because while we had a lovely time, we arrived expecting a 5 star hotel and this absolutely isn’t. 3 star is a more realistic rating, but I want to write a fair review and acknowledge all of the great things at this hotel so here are our pros and cons…||Room:|Pros-|Very spacious, regular room service, fridge regularly restocked with water, juice and chocolate bars. Bathroom regularly restocked with toiletries.||Cons-|VERY dated and worn.|Although we booked the ‘triple’ room, we arrived to 1 double bed and a sofa bed (for a family of 5). |When we spoke to Reception about it, the man on the desk was quite rude and asked ‘what do you expect, you booked a 1 bedroom?’. I explained it was described as a triple, so he arranged for an extra bed to be set up. When we arrived back at our room we found a fold-up bed dumped outside of the front door, which we then had to make up ourselves.||The bathroom was very dated and on the third day the tap literally fell off into the sink leaving just the pipe work. This took 1.5 days to fix.||Food:|Pros - the Bella Vista a la carte was very nice and excellent service (although there wasn’t a great deal for vegetarians. My vegetarian pasta came with chicken in, despite having informed them I don’t eat meat, however they were very apoplectic and offered to make a new dish). |At the Splash Bar the service is very good. Slushies and ice creams went down a treat with the kids! (Only available 1-3pm)|Cons - |The alcoholic drinks aren’t great. The wine is undrinkable. Beer is fine. Soft drinks are okay too. |The buffet restaurant doesn’t have a lot of variation night to night. Lots of very similar dishes and not much choice for vegetarians unless you just want to eat chips and pasta. |Three of us all got upset tummies towards the end of the holiday.||Facilities:|Pros-|Lots of pools, plenty of sunbeds (no sunbed reserving), good towel borrowing service. |Cons-|Some of the communal areas are dated and worn. There seems to be lots of renovation work going on though so maybe this will improve. ||Entertainment/animation:|Pros-|The pool party was amazing. We had the best time this night.|Kids club pirate quest was good. Our daughter enjoyed this.|Cons-|Some of the shows were quite weak. The belly dancer night was okay, but gyrating her breasts literally right AT the children was a bit uncomfortable. ||Staff:|Mostly very nice and helpful, only had one or two negative interactions with Reception staff and bar staff at the beach bar. ||Tips:|We booked the Cairo coach trip with Mohamed in the hotel. He was super helpful. I think it cost around £60 each including visas, which was an absolute bargain as it included a beautiful lunch buffet in Cairo. The hotel also put together a breakfast box for us to take which was lovely.||Book the a la carte as soon as you arrive. We waited until day 3 and all restaurants were full, however the guest services were very accommodating and managed to pull some strings to get us into Bella Vista. ||Overall:|A lovely holiday, but be wary if expecting 5* as it...
Read moreThe Otium family Amphoras Resort is fair. All meals are included, the staff is helpful and there are nightly shows, where the kids get to participate. But the building and the rooms show signs of wear and age, and sometimes lack in up-keeping. The tourists here are mostly from Ukraine. There’s tons of food here but you might not like everything. I say that because for my family, some of the food was either too oily or too salty
Apart from pools, the hotel has three waterslides, a kid’s club and a small gym. The diving port closes at 5:30pm or when there’s a red flag. The pools close around that time as well. You don’t really need shoes for coral reef because no one is allowed to be near it anyway. But the shallow water has some sharp rocks, so if your feet are sensitive or you have a child, it’s worth getting these shoes. By the way, you can buy them at a street market in Sharm for $5. Theres no need to bring your own towels, since they are provided at the room and the beach towel station. But I do recommend you to get your own hair shampoo and conditioner. Also, get bug spray, laundry detergent, goggles and inflatable swimming gear, if you don’t know how to swim well.
Now here is a list of the tours from best to worst: Diving 🤿 - I believe it’s worth going diving/snorkeling because you get to see the coral reef 🐠 and the Maldives-like disappearing island. The yacht that I got to go on was King Adam; it’s beautiful and the staff are exceptionally friendly. This is the most expensive tour of all. But if you have heart problems, high blood pressure, had surgery within the last 6 months, had Covid, are a child, you won’t be allowed to dive.
Old City - here they take you to Nefertiti natural oils store, which also sells tea and perfume, souvenir stores, the largest mosque 🕌 in Sharm Al Sheikh and more.
Safari - you get to ride through the desert on a quad, but if you’re under the age of 16, ride a motorcycle or have been plenty of times on roller coasters, it’s not going to be very exhilarating. If you’re pregnant, you won’t be allowed to ride at all. Another thing, you only need sunglasses and a medical face mask for the ride. Helmets are provided. Don’t buy their scarves for $3 because they don’t work any better, they’re really a waste of money.
Moda Show - although this tour is free, it’s the worst of all. It’s a Turkish leather and fur store. The coats are overpriced and the leather is definitely imitation. On top of that, they don’t accept returns nor do they have a website. Don’t waste your time or money here.
Ultimately, I would recommend this resort if you’re on a budget, but there are better options out there. Just keep in mind that you may spend additional $100-500 on and during tours (for a family).
When leaving Egypt, bottled water won’t pass the security check, but water in thermos will. Food is...
