I saw the photos and other reviews were quite positive. I was happy to have found what should be a good hotel in Kuopio, but Iâm sad to tell that this was not how I experienced it. ||The Lapland style in a building and a city that is far from Lapland was interesting. Cozy in some places, but it also felt kind of fake.|The internal logistic of reception, restaurant, elevators ans stairs was a funny. Funny that someone actually made a plan and ended up like this. Living in the 4th floor I just used the stairs. Waiting for an elevator I didnât have time for. And the stairs was also something I had to learn. Following it to the reception, but ending up in the restaurant and having to search where to go next.|But ok, this is probably an old building that has become a hotel and elevators/stairs coulnât just be located where itâs best.||The big problem for me was (what must be) the total lack of leadership at the hotel. At least a leadership that understands that the hotel rooms are the main product. It was totally different from photos and really dirty. |I really believe the housekeeping employees are doing their job, but totally missing leadership. And let it be clear: The dirt was not from the last guest. It was the result of generally bad cleaning over time. And as you see in my photos: No hotel leader who loves his/hers hote have garbage cans like this in their rooms.|Generally I let my photos speak for them self.||One night i kept my socks on the floor. The morning after if was full of dust.||The breakfast was good. Not smart logistic with things «everywhere», but the food was good and the people helpful.||My advise to the hotel: Take the general manager out of his/hers office and take a look at...
Read moreEDIT: This review was written before I talked with the staff at the check out. The hotel did reach out to me to apologize and make sure they got all the details. They did sound serious about it.
Rooms are alright, they are clean and nicely decorated. Location is near the train and about 4min walk to the main square and city hall. Atmosphare is not as good as in other Lapland hotels I've visited where you feel like you've left everything at the door of the hotel and entered another world. So even though the atmosphare is not bad, it isn't as good as I was expecting.
And then the beef. Most of the staff are nice here. But I met one who was super rude and talked to me (a Finn Hijabi POC) in another way than my (White) co-worker I was travelling with. I was asking something when she cut me mid sentence TWICE talking with a really disrespectful way to tell me how she's talking not talking to me. It was just racist and not welcoming at all. I've been avoiding the reception ever since cause that is just not acceptable and I don't have the energy to face another racist who'd probably just explain how she wasn't being racist or anything if I told her to behave herself even if she...
Read moreWe stayed for one night in the Junior Suite with late checkout and breakfast in bed. There was a little bit of a wait at check-in due to a long line but the staff was extremely friendly and funny and we felt very welcome right from the beginning. The room was spacious and the air conditioning was working tremendously well despite the heat outside. The bed was comfortable to sleep in and the tub big enough for two people. The room was tidy and everything was well stocked. Extra points for the pillow selection and beautiful bathrobes! We heard no noises during the night from other rooms. We chilled at the hotel lounge and bar which was open until 01:30 and it was also possible to take drinks back to the room. Cloudberry Spritzer was amazing! Breakfast was made from quality ingredients and served in beautiful Pentik dishes. I have never tasted such good porridge in my life and I eat a lot of it! The only minus was the size of the omelet which was very small and thin. But the breakfast didn't leave me hungry either way and I ate all of the delicious clouberry jam and some of my partner's as well. This was our first time at Lapland Hotel and we will definitely...
