We are a family of four and everybody of us is over 18 years old. In many hotels it is hard to find a good room for four adults but Puijonsarvi has many choices. We have stayed in a Junior Suite earlier. This time we chose a Suite with a double bed and a sofa bed for two. However, I think that sleeping quality could be still more better in a Quintet Room (kvintetti in Finnish) which has two double beds (plus a loft bed in some rooms) and even two bathrooms. Also Loft Rooms have two double beds. A Rock Suite could be interesting, too, but it is only for three people.||The hotel has suites both in the main building and in the Maaherrankatu wing. The style of suites is very different in these two buildings. We had a Suite in the Maaherrankatu wing and this review is based on it. The main building and the wing are connected with a warm underground tunnel. We had a parking space in the courtyard of the Maaherrankatu wing and an elevator was available almost directly from the parking place to the 4th floor where our suite was located. They also have a parking hall but it is a bit more expensive.||We had a double bed (in the bedroom), two leather sofas (in the living room), two wicker chairs, several dark wardrobes, very many round mirrors, two big televisions, a desk, design lamps, a coffee machine, a self adjustable air-conditioning system and very efficient blackout curtains in our Suite. Our bathroom with two showers was very large but there wasn't any bathtub there. We also had an own electric sauna with a window and a separate toilet. There was a transparent glass wall between the bathroom and the bedroom but an electric blur was available so that it was possible to choose if you want to see through the glass wall or not. ||We didn't hear any noise and our sleep quality was excellent. The only negative thing was that there were so many light switches there that it was hard to know which affects what. Perhaps those switches could have small nameplates, information signs or stickers.||The breakfast buffet was very good. They even served traditional local specialty named kalakukko. It is made of fish baked inside a loaf of bread. Also gluten free and other special diets were available. On the second morning the breakfast room was quite congested but we still find a cozy table for four people. So we had a good time in Puijonsarvi and we will travel back...
Read moreOriginal Sokos Hotel Puijonsarvi is a part of the chain of Sokos Hotels located in the heart of Kuopio.
Hotel is relatively large spreading out to several buildings and a parking carage. Services are the industry standard for big hotel chains including online booking, app, check-in and out, various credit cards etc.
Interiors have been renovated throug years and everything seems clean and comfortable. Nothing too original though. Service is very good, staff was very attentative and friendly marking sure all is well.
Rooms come in various shape and sizes, also with quite different rates. Cleaning had done a good job and the room was comfortable with tall windows and proper curtains, which are essential in Finland during summer. TV had some basic cable with BBC. Also minibar with some local brewery beer in addition to the basic stiff seemed OK. Room also had a safe included.
Breakfast was quite nice with a good selection of food, mostly standard international selection. Especially I noted the local foods also available at...
Read moreI was missing the home-sandals that they provide in the hotels, but you normally can find in the room (so you can have them in the sauna or when going around indoors) but I couldn't find them anywhere in my room or any of the common areas. So that was a shame. The breakfast was fine. I was missing variety in warm salty food; there was not a toaster and the amount of vegan/gluten free food was scarce sometimes. They did not use to check and sometimes it was empty and not refilled. Also, I was missing some waffles or pancakes as an option for breakfast.
The lighting system in the room was as bit chaotical and difficult to understand, there was a light in a wardrobe that I never managed to turn off by myself. The bathroom light was also a bit tricky. The gym was quite small and poor in machines, it was lacking a fair amount of material. The staff was very...
