I hope you find my honest review helpful before you consider this place. Quite frankly I can't wait to leave tomorrow and will not be returning or recommending. I read all the reviews on trip advisor and I told myself-"we are easy going people who can see past most negative comments. We will be fine" OH DEAR HOW I WAS WRONG!!
Arrival.-12pm Sunday 30 crystal guests arrived with only 1 poor girl on reception it took sooooo long and everyone had questions to ask with no real help from staff or reps. -We were told we must provide a credit card for the €200 deposit ( resulting in a credit card transaction fee, thanks!) -rooms were not ready for check in we were told it would be late afternoon so leave cases and bags in the 'theatre' and they'll phone us. 3pm came around and after exploring plagne centre we came back and asked if it was ready. Yes, found our room an absolute state, it hadn't been prepared yet. "Sorry, we will phone you". 5pm still no call so I asked and it turns out it was ready. wait in theatre area where children running around banging into tables and drinks
Room. -I read reviews about it being small... but this is ridiculous. We had a 3 person room, NOT A CHANCE!You can not walk around the bed the space is that small, you have to shuffle side on bruising your shins as you go. I'm 173cm & 72kg, anyone larger will struggle in this room. -no chairs, tables, sofa, desk or balcony so in order to relax after skiing or after evening meal you have to sit in bed! -TV no international channels (no big deal, I'm not here to watch TV its just nice to have it on in the background sometimes) -cleaning service, not great -hairdryer burnt melted plastic giving the impression it could blow up at any moment (the rooms no major issue just its nit somewhere you can relax so I feel its worth noting)
Restaurant - ABSOLUTE JOKE (all other reviews are true) -greeted by 7 staff who will 'try' to find you a table. You'll pass lots of vacant tables which you will question but be told "you can't have that table it is for 3 or 4 people and you are only a couple" (Or 4 people can't have the 6 person table). You'll follow around all 4 levels of the restaurant only to return to the top floor where you suggest they separate a table. They don't like it but problem solved 2 couples can now be seated. (Take a jumper or other item to indicate its your table, if you get up together for your drink or food you'll return to your table being given away!!! Yes thus really does happen to multiple guests every single night!) children run around the restaurant touching food and putting it back! -pasta station is so busy the wait is so long -I don't consider myself to be fussy at all, I'll eat anything but I really struggled to enjoy the food here (personal preference but other guests said the same) -most plates, cups, bowls chipped and cracked -chef coughing over food most nights -free wine during meal time
Entertainment all in French (of course, we are in France but there is nothing geared towards English guests) I enjoyed the peter pan show and the day of the dead.
Spa after booking our time slot and coming home early we arrived to be told we didn't have a booking? We approached the girl on reception who made the booking and outright stood there and said 'It wasn't me!!!' Later that evening 2 vouchers for a free drink were sent to the room.(didn't really solve the problem.though did it) after speaking to other guests they told us the spa is awful
Crystal We have used crystal ski 6 times over the last 10 years and usually enjoyed it but thus holiday was awful -no crystal activities - quizz, resort tour ect... -welcome meeting wasn't very informative -problems with the hotel weren't resolved by they reps at all. I really do think crystal should pull out of this hotel
Location Yes, this is a ski in/out which is great but the 15 min walk into town is unsafe at night. As other reviews have said, no footpath in the pitch black!!
I'm upset to be leaving thus review but I think it's important to know this before...
Read moreFirst Snowboarding holiday with Crystal and we stayed at the Aime MMV 2000 La Plagne. Couple of things to be mindful of; if you're on a package deal you may have to walk from the drop off point which is roadside and approximately 500 metres from the hotel. The road to the hotel is downhill and can be icy and slippery. Consequently interesting if you have suitcases and snowboards / skis to carry. Check-in is 18.00 (yes 6pm in the evening) not a bundle of laughs if you've caught an 0600 flight from the UK! You can leave (at your own risk) all your possession near reception - they say they watch them but I'd say not - change in the loos, and head out on the slopes. If like me you're a beginner, chose Oxygene for your lessons! They'll pick you up and drop you off from outside the hotel. The Ski school in the hotel, seemed to indicate the green slope outside the hotel was 'private' which I don't actually think was the case, so I practised on it regardless! The rooms are comfortable however the beds are entirely random, one super soft and two like ironing boards. Also the fitted sheet appears to be the wrong size resulting in the top of the mattress being squeezed into it - quite bizarre. The shower is nice and reasonably powerful. There aren't any tea or coffee making facilities in the room which is a shame, meaning you have to go down to the bar. However free tea and coffee urns are available in the bar area, but not during breakfast. No one appears to tell you any of this (naughty Crystal Ski!) The room had a lovely shower room and separate toilet, which is great. The sink didn't have a plug so if you wanted to handwash, any of your smalls, you may need to consider this. The room was not particularly large, but the 3rd bed served as the store for my hubby's suitcase, while I chose to decant my stuff into the large wardrobes. These however had mad doors, that did not stay on their runners so be careful. Room temperature can get quite toasty overnight, but if you leave the sliding mirror doors that cover the window open, there's a significant draft. Please note these windows do open, so if you have small people, they could in theory open the window and fall out! The restaurant put on a good spread, but everything was written in French, so it was never clear what we were eating. Most of the hot food was not particularly hot and it could get pretty frantic in there! Free wine with your evening meal was a nice touch. Breakfast - again a bit of a free for all, if you want boiled eggs leave them in for between 8-9 mins, or they're raw. Great choice, and in my opinion the best meal of the day. Staff were all nice, with the exception of a rather 'buff' guy who covers reception over night and was our 'checkout' person, who was rather unfriendly, unhelpful and more interested in talking to the female staff than helping guests. The rest of the staff were super helpful. If you use Oxygene for any lessons, they will pick you up at the hotel door - they're fab, don't bother with anyone else. There is an hourly bus service to Club Med and down to Plagne Central - you can catch the cable car from Club Med into La Plagne too. For the record the blue slopes in / out of the hotel aren't blues - my friends would call them Very Dark Blues - some people indicated the one down from Club Med was a red! It freaked me out, so I had to walk one of the days (but I'm a wuss and need to grow a pair!) So beginners be wary. The boot room is carnage so go early, if there are 2 plus snowboarders in a room, there's not enough racking for both boards - it is very ski focused. One other point of note, is the fireplace in the 'lounge' it smokes a lot and did set off the fire alarms one night, so that was exciting! On the whole I would recommend. We stayed half-board and got a good deal and would return at a similar price, but wouldn't consider the current prices on Crystal Ski as they're no longer represent good value. Also I would pack accommodating that walk down and back up to the road on arrival /...
Read moreWe went as a group of 10 (8 adults 2 children) in the February half term, so probably the hotels busiest week.||We did not have any queues before dinner, in fact you can simply ask reception to reserve you a table each night (there was a big table that sat 10 people so they reserved this for us every night with no problem) and they will hold it for you until 7:30pm. ||Food was always hot, varied and different special dish each night- yes there could have been more meat but there was enough options. On our first night they did beef, another night lamb, then chilli burritos and gnocchi which was all hot and tasty. Breakfast also very good and lots of options. ||Yes rooms are small but they are very transparent about this as the room size is written in the description of the rooms when you book- so really don’t know why people are so shocked! ||This is truly a ski in ski out and really handy having the shop in the boot room- FYI if you hire your skis directly with skiset online and not through Crystal you’ll save some money as they mark up. Same with lift passes - do it direct online with la plagne it’s cheaper and they post them to you. ||Staff were all friendly to us so we didn’t experience any issues with this. ||Check in- we arrived about 9pm so rooms were ready to check in immediately. They also had food ready for us in the restaurant so our check in experience was positive. You can also check in online a few days before to save time. ||The only negatives for us:||- wait time for collecting skis on first morning was circa 45 mins HOWEVER it was half term week so was expected. Perhaps the hotel should strongly encourage those who arrive earlier on the day before they ski to collect equipment the day before to limit the queue in morning.||- a couple of nights during dinner, the staff seemed to rile up the kids creating a lot of screaming and noise which was unpleasant during dinner time but as soon as we asked for the noise to be kept down it was. ||- unbelievably there are a large number of children running riot until 10:30/11pm, running up and down the stair wells, up and down corridors, which kept us awake however we were in the first room next to the stairs/lift, so if you want to get an early night then I would put in a preference for a room further down the corridor and you’ll probably be ok. ||- there aren’t huge numbers of quiet areas to sit in the evening to play cards etc, but we did manage to get a table every night in the closed off lounge area. There is very noisy kids events every evening around 8-9pm in the big theatre area but in the lounge part it wasn’t too loud.||Overall this was a good experience good hotel, and I would recommend to anyone looking for a ski holiday in a brilliant ski in ski out location and a comfy bed to sleep in with lots of...
