An honest review from a well travelled frequent reviewer and professional handyman
An attempt at a *four star experience which fails at service, quality and refinement! Clearly rushed to open, compromised on quality and expect people to pay a premium! The hotel and apartments are not finished!
*Main Lobby - From arrival you'll see the entrance is incomplete, facade revealing insulation and pipework, slab work missing and external lift inoperable. The interior lobby with a huge leak at one end and terrace partially complete.
*Apartment - If you look past these initial observations and make it to your room/apartment you'll find once again the apartments are lacking. In our apartment the grouting in the bathrooms was a mess, cracked and in some parts and open in others allowing water in. One of the shower screens was being held up with a shim as the hinge had come loose from the wall. One of the mainly sliding doors would not open and close properly due to a misalignment. The skirtings on the walls were warped and damaged rudimentarily screwed back onto the wall. One of the toilet seats was broken. Many marks and patches on the walls. Damage to some of the panelling, And to our surprise a used pair of boxer shorts in the wardrobe and a dirty towel. *REMEMBER THIS IS A HOTEL THAT HAS BEEN OPEN FOR 3 MONTHS you would expect it to be in tip top condition. Other observations from the room, the layout clearly was changed as the main over table lights are not over the table. They need to add some side lights as you only have the main lights. There is a huge waste of space next to the kitchen where they should have just extended the kitchen as the space for a toaster, two coffee machine and a kettle (with no space in the cupboard to put them away) while trying to cook is impossible, we ended up putting most of it on the floor. More comfortable seating is definitely needed as the apartment was supposed to be for six and the sofa only for three. They should fit some new feet to the dining room chairs as they make a huge nose moving them which can be heard through every floor constantly. The TV did not work with the apps or with video casting as it advertises. The front door has no sound isolation at all, you can hear every noise, door open/close and conversation in the hall at all times! Great when people get back from a night out!
*Spa and Basement Areas - In the Spa again you'll find missing skirting and huge gaps in the walls. In the boot area the skirtings have already fallen off and the doors are warped (some genius used soft unseasoned wood on the locker doors in a damp environment) And to finished is off the floor was filthy, not cleaned once in our week of stay, so gravel and dirt everywhere.
In general you will find poor finishes around the hotel.
We took a number of these issues to the reception after paying extra to change rooms with a view (which this is not mentioned on any site that you have to pay for a view). The lady on reception barely apologised, wrote some things down and blurted out excuse after excuse (there is no excuse for a poor service that you pay for) she said she would talk to the manager and send up the handyman to fix what they could. **THREE DAYS LATER he appeared, told us a number of things were on manufacturer warranty which he couldn't fix (another sign they are not finished) and eight other apartments had similar issues. He then said he would fix the toilet seat to which he never returned!
On the penultimate day we again had some words with reception to which they had more excuses to say and no compensation or offers to give!
Overall it is a shame these failings exist as the hotel in general is well thought out. The entrance setup and location is really good. They've took the effort to put underground parking in, a well fitted spa, gym, kid area, ski/boot room and toilets. The rooms are well proportioned and well fitted, the view is great and the balcony large. With a little more attention and effort it really would be worth...
Read moreWe’ve stayed at other 5* accommodations in Flaine, Eos and RockyPop, and Alhena beats them both hands down!||The location is unbeatable, true ski in/ski out and with bars, restaurants and shops a short 1-2 min walk. ||We stayed in a family suite which offered 2 exceptionally spacious and well designed bedrooms both with ensuite bath/shower and a well planned entry hall with lots of storage space for coats, shoes etc as well as a coffee and tea station. Only negative was that the ensuites didn’t have toilets. There was only 1 shared toilet off the entry hall, which was fine for us as a family of 3.||Beds were large and also the comfiest we’re ever enjoyed in France. (Firm but plush). Bedding and towels were of a good quality.||Views from our rooms, like the location, were unbeatable and of the slopes.||There was a little bit of noise transference from the corridors but as early risers and good sleepers it wasn't an issue. There are only 8 rooms per floor so it wasn't like in much bigger hotels.||Excellent heated ski lockers in the basement providing space for all of your ski clothing and equipment making the mornings so easy. We made it out for the first lift every single morning even with a child in tow.||Incredible leisure facilities, large pool (bit too cold for me), sizeable hot tub (could have been a smidge hotter), excellent sauna and steam room (spacious and hot!) Gym and games room too but we didn’t use either.||Parking is in the basement and is free (It’s almost 20Euro per day at Eos!), we were in an electric car and were allocated at check-in a bay with a charger, of which there are many. Very simple and efficient to use.||Yes, as other reviewers have stated, the building isn’t quite finished with missing cladding etc, but it didn’t detract. The check-in was friendly despite us arriving late. The bar area was a little soulless and with the front desk staff multi tasking as bar staff and chefs too it took forever to get a drink on a few occasions but again, it just didn’t detract, we had time, we enjoyed the fire and relaxing in our almost private space!||Thank you Alhena for a fantastic stay. The best we’ve ever had in Flaine. We’ll be...
Read moreI was here to support my daughter's school ski team for the first time and wasn't sure where to book. Got a great deal for Hotel Alhena so I thought I would give it a whirl. It exceeded my expectations. Good sized room with excellent views of the piste. A truly ski in and ski out hotel. The Ski room is kept toasty hot, each room has an allocated ski locked which is opened by your hotel room key. Everything dries out brilliantly overnight on the purpose built racking inside each locker thanks to the toasty heat. The location is absolutely superb, with the forum on one side and views of pistes from most if not all rooms. Lifts are quick and decent sizes (not always the case). Staff were friendly and helpful. Mattresses are firm (but I like a firm mattress). Plenty of storage in the room. 2 open-faced wardrobes with plenty of hangers. A coffee maker and a kettle were provided as was a decent hairdryer. Plenty of plug sockets. Well lit. Good flooring (mostly wood / wood effect, with carpet on in the immediate area of the beds). Lovely shower. Comfy beds, quite firm mattresses but very comfortable. Good pillows and lovely duvets on the beds. Temp control in the room was good, and lovely big windows that swung open back to 180. The windows are huge so you have fantastic views. Comfy bathrobes and disposable slippers provided. Absolutely delighted with my stay, and plan to return next year. There is a gym and also a pool but I didn't use these - however, I heard from those who used them that they were both great. Friendly and helpful staff. There isn't a mini fridge in the room but that is the only thing I can think of that I would change and it is a small thing. Really recommend this hotel for this...
