What I liked: Good location: you can walk out, one minute and you're right near the intersection of the two main streets of Calais. You can walk to the main area of restaurants in about 8-10 minutes and see quite a bit along the way. || The room was spacious. and clean and the front desk man was not only helpful but cheerful too. Also there is a bar at the hotel and breakfast area. I didn't have breakfast this time, but would probably do so next time.||The aspects of the hotel I didn't like so much was the fact that the decor of the room is very bland. This probably doesn't matter much if you are just here for a night. Also with one window in the room (in the one I stayed in) there wasn't quite enough light. ||Depends on your point of view but at 72-75 euros per night I don't call this a 'budget' hotel as some others do. It's more of a mid-range. To me 'budget' means something more like the F1 or the Premiere Classe.||A few other tips:||Regarding the bar, if you want a 'flat white' or similar, don't make the mistake of ordering 'cafe au lait' as in Calais this actually means just an americano-style long cafe with some UHT milk on the side. What you want is a cafe creme. When I explained what I wanted, the barman/front desk man happily made an espresso coffe with steamed milk.||Just around the corner to the left is Au Calice where you can sit outside with a coffee and watch the world go by. Which is always a good thing to do when you're in France. There is also a new 'cool' cafe called the Cafetoria right...
Read moreBrit Hotel Calais is what I would consider a no-frills, no-hassle destination that serves very well in terms of a clean and comfortable place to stay while traveling from the EU to the UK. The Calais ferry and tunnel services are within a few minutes of the hotel, check-in and check-out procedures are easy, and the front desk & bar staff are multilingual. My personal experience has been that English, German, and French are all possible when communicating with the staff. A few highlights:
Staff are extremely friendly and helpful.
Easy parking available across the street in the mall parking garage, and around 15€ for 24 hours.
The mall and other shopping areas are in the immediate area; easy walking distance for most of your traveling needs.
The bar has almost all of your “typically favorite” spirits on hand. I ordered a scotch neat and took it up to my room.
For those that travel with an Amazon Firestick for entertainment, the back of the room’s television set is...

The room was large and clean (the fixtures and fittings were quite dated and a bit grubby, but it didn't bother me). The location was great, very easy to access from the ferry or the train station. The man at the check-in desk was particularly nice and helpful :)
However, I would say that the hotel felt quite old and dated and the breakfast wasn't the best- not the best selection of things and the seating area was all very close together, which made me feel a little awkward as a solo traveller. There was no kettle in the room unfortunately. No air-con either, but the windows opened fully so you could let...
