What a Gem of a find and a stroke of luck, after roaming around Calais looking for somewhere to eat we stumbled into this beauty, the ambiance was lovely, we were the only ones in but you got to remember no one is about until 2pm usually in France. We started with the French onion soup, hubby not keen on onion soup but he gave it a go, it was amazing, the best I have had while in France, hubby loved it too. The main meal was steak, now hubby being a steak fan all his life and has made his way through a lot of them over the years chomped away 2 thirds of it then said “that is the best stake I have had in my life” the other 3rd we bought home because it was that big he couldn’t eat it all, I gotta say the chips were chips folks,! Not fritts or skinny fries they were chips and they were lovely. I had spag Bol, I know I know I’m boring but it was pretty good and I enjoyed it, We passed on desert because we were full. The service was brilliant, the waiter provided us with an iPad so we could read the menu in English and then order our food on the iPad, why does every restaurant not have this???? We had 1 double expresso and a bear, plus 1 iced tea drink, can’t recommend this...
Read moreAbsolutely awful. We were drawn in to this restaurant by an over-excited owner. My partner, mother, sister and friend wanted a small meal so they were going to order from the kids menu. We were told this was simply not allowed. Fries were €4 and under-cooked. French onion soup was exceptionally watery and had soggy bits of bread floating in it. The fizzy drinks were stated as €1.50 on their awful menu, but then were €2.80 on the receipt. The total was €40, I put €20 in cash and €5 in coins to get rid of the change we had, and then asked to put the rest on my card. The lady then put €20 on my card, keeping the change for herself?
This place isn’t worth the time, money or effort. Please avoid it, irrespective of the previous ‘positive’ reviews. It’s clearly gone down hill. The entirety of Calais is like a deserted land throughout the day. I would bypass it like the plague unless you need to stay in a hotel after travelling over on the boat. Nothing to see or do.
Awful experience, will...
Read moreFrench onion soup was cold and not very tasty. Chips or fries were cold and soft. Staff was dismissive once alcohol wasn't ordered. Not much open or we would not have came here. The staff seemed annoyed we were there. It was only half full. Bathrooms were not clean, no paper towel left, no hand dryer.
To be clear id have rather sat outside but as a Canadian still not used to patios where food is being served everyone smoking. I understand and accept its their culture, but for others to be aware if traveling and not accustomed to it, if you are first to arrive on patio dont assume it will...
