Hôtel Le Cercle — Hotel in Cherbourg

This comfortable hotel is located in the former French Naval Officers’s club which still carries all of its old naval motifs. We took the two adjoining rooms (211-212) on the second floor which offer a great view of Cherbourg’s harbor and Napoleon’s statue. Free parking in front of the hotel on harbor side. There is no better central location — right next to the historic downtown, with its many shops and restaurants, and only a 10-12 minute walk to the fabulous “Cite de La Mer” maritime museum located in the historic art deco ferry passenger terminal (not to be missed!, including its nuclear submarine). Don’t forget to book a table a museum’s delicious restaurant called “Le Quai des mers”. Other delicious food near hotel is at the “Comptoir Libanais”...

Staff was very friendly, both, at the reception, as well as at breakfast,. Breakfast was excellent, with a really great selection of food on offer. Although, the hotel does not have a car park, it was really easy to find parking space just a few yards away at very low cost. There are only two slightly negative points: The air in the room was very sticky and it only had a fan, no air conditioning. Further, the window could only get opened fully, and not at a tilt. With the warm weather, we slept with the fully opened window, careful not to bang against it when getting out of bed, but if the weather gets hotter, it will be tough to find sleep. Our stay started off very promising as the receptionist was very friendly. The entrance was welcoming. Now for the criticism, on entering the room, which was non-smoking, it stank of cigarettes. There was no other room available so we were forced to take it. The room was on the small side. The shower had excellent pressure and worked well. As compensation, the breakfast was thrown in, but choice was limited and coffee was not great. ||We were surprised by the excellent reviews this hotel received, which prompted my wife to book it. It has the potential to be a great hotel but attention to detail is paramount. I would have liked to have written a more positive review because of the approach of the receptionist on our arrival, but unfortunately...
