My wife and I spent two nights at this hotel for our stay in the greater Rocamadour area. The hotel has plenty of parking space. The reception, bar and breakfast area are in the main building; the rooms are in an attached but separate 2-floor structure and are all entered from a covered outside walk. Make sure to get a room on the top floor. Check-in time ends at 8 PM (20:00) because that is when the manager closes up the main building and leaves for the night. The room was sufficiently spacious, clean and neat. The bathroom and shower were quite good. The beds were very comfortable. The area around this hotel was very quiet as it sits well off the main road and is about 1.5 km north of the main intersection in the upper town area known as L’Hospitalet. Breakfast was also very good. Much to our surprise, we were told that one could walk off-road from the hotel down to Rocamadour. When it was still light outside, we recorded our walk down to and through Rocamadour on Gaia GPS (a hiking app) so that we could find our way more easily in the evening when we went back down for dinner (with our flashlight and another one that the hotel manager loaned us). It is a 1 km, off-road walk (approx. 15 min) from the hotel to the main intersection in L’Hospitalet. Note that there are quite a few restaurants, including 3 of the hotel’s top recommendations, near this intersection. From there, it is another 75 meters down a concrete walk to the main road bisecting the medieval town area of Rocamadour. We walked down this road and through the lower gate, turned around and walked almost 200 meters back to the Grand Escalante staircase, climbed the steps up to the Sanctuary area, then walked up a path with many switchbacks to the chateau, and finally walked back down on a path running alongside the Route du Chateau to the main intersection in L’Hospitalet. This entire loop starting and ending at the hotel was about 5-6 km and took us 1.5 hours. But it was worth every meter and every minute. The only negative about our stay was that the manager told us on the first afternoon (when we arrived) that we did not need to make dinner reservations as this was a quiet time in Rocamadour (middle of October). This was incorrect, and we had a really hard time finding a place for dinner, having to settle on a less than stellar restaurant at a table right next to the squeaking door to the W/C. Very unfortunate. However, we made reservations for dinner on our second night and had a great experience. We would recommend this hotel, especially since we now know that it is easy walk from there down to...
Read moreBeautiful calm setting - you could be a millions miles away from anywhere... yet only just outside Rocamadour. Greeted by the lovely lady who sorts out our room!! ||||Location||20 mins walk via the fields to upper town with a few restaurants then probably a further 15mins to the top of Rocamadour. ||Taxi very expensive to R @ E25 as comes from nearby village. 5mins drive to Upper Rocamadour / 10mins to valley Car Park where you can then walk up the Pilgrimage Staircase or catch 2 lifts to Rocamadour. ||||Hotel||Staff incredibly friendly & helpful. Service with a smile & they go that extra mile. It would be great if the hotel were Adults Only but understand you have an Apartment/Cottage onsite that needs filling.||||Room 14 Superior King (one of 3 rooms on first floor)||Tasteful & elegant with some lovely features & attention to detail. Good view of the garden. Toilet separate to bathroom (hurrah). Note that there is a full length mirror just outside the room. And a cool lounge area downstairs. ||||A few things we’d have liked in the room which would have made it even better: drinks fridge, tea & coffee facilities (although the restaurant very kindly provided us with hot water & cups) & safe (although perhaps not necessary at this beautiful place). ||A blind on the bathroom velux window would have been good as it gets very hot in there... ||||Pool Area||Lovely & calm. Pool towels provided & enough sun beds & brollies. Pool needed a bit of a clean. Well kept grounds.||||Restaurant ||Beautiful - underneath the Yew Tree. Perfect. Excellent friendly service. We had the tasty Lamb one night and the Beef another - both were good. And yes, there are quite a few flies but this would not put me off eating outside in such a lovely setting.||||Indeed, everyone was very helpful and it was a pleasure...
Read moreWow, this hotel is so fantastic, the service is absolutely above and beyond. The owners and operators really went out of their way to help me with transportation around here. So many great things: walking distance (20 min lovely walk) to Rocamadour, the medieval town, the sanctuary and the castle which were all amazing. Lots of great restaurants in Rocamadour as well, and a restaurant a 5-min walk from the hotel for dinner. The hotel breakfast is fantastic, the best cheese I've had in France so far and a delightful apple pastry, fresh cooked eggs, tea and coffee, charcuterie, fresh bread and jam, croissants, the works. Rooms are clean, spacious, and have everything you need, internet is fast. I didn't try the pool because I was visiting in April when it was still quite chilly but it looks lovely. There is a lavender farm a 10-min walk away as well, and an amazing cave (Gouffre de Padirac) a 20-min drive away. Hard to get an Uber or a taxi here so if you don't have a car it would be important to arrange transportation to anything outside of Rocamadour. The hotel managers also speak very good english which is very helpful if your French is pitiful (as is mine!) because not too many people speak English here. The only thing I would advise is that the rooms are not super sound proofed so bring good ear plugs if you are a light sleeper or may be jet lagged and sleeping at odd times. Fantastic experience for an excellent,...
