First - great position in the lovely and charming town of Montmorillon. It really is worth a visit, with the old book binding quarter, the wonderful walks around the classic French streets with a beautiful bridge over the river. But this hotel - well where to start? first - the staff are very friendly and will try and help all they can. Their English is not great, so its hard to communicate if you cant speak good french, but they definitely want to help you have a great stay. We booked into a twin room for three nights (family wedding nearby). When you get out of the lift and walk to your room, the carpets are so threadbare and the paint on the walls so damaged and marked I couldn't believe I was actually paying for this! The room itself was small, smelly (air conditioning?) and although clean, the carpet again really worn and overall - tired. Wardrobe - minuscule, no chest of drawers. It was also very noisy and we saw that just outside the room was a huge air con unit so we asked to be moved. They were very agreeable trying to ensure we were happy in another room and moved us to another part of the building. This time the decor was more refreshed and the room faced back so it was overall quieter. BUT the beds were rock hard! so hard it was difficult to sleep so we put the duvets and spare blankets on the bed and slept on them, and the next day asked for more and slept 'princess and the pea" style - i.e. onto of loads of layers just to cope with the hard mattresses. Warning to anyone with bad hips or backs - check this out! There are no room safes (apparently it is legal in a 2 star hotel not to provide them) either. For the rating you get clean rooms (maids every day) and friendly staff, cheap rates but you get uncomfortable beds and shabby, worn, tired decor that just makes you feel its on its knees somehow. Please refresh! replace mattresses! you will be onto a winner. The breakfast is extra (8.5 euros) which is ok, croissants, meats, fresh fruits, some cereals, bread/toast, fruit juices, a coffee machine, various choices of tea but eat as much as you can to make up for the price. So in conclusion - if you just need somewhere to rest your weary head, then its fine. If you are looking for somewhere to match the prettiness of the town, the charm of the area etc then maybe not. Its like a cheap motel, that badly needs updating. Shame, as imagine how well they would do if they could pull themselves up to the...
Read moreA serious absence of available hotels in the area led us to this hotel in the small town of Montmorillan. We managed to park right ourside the front door, being warmly welcomed.||Our room was large, with an external balcony, overlooking the local bridge. Slightly dated, with an overkill of heavy spray cleaner pervading throughout. Opening the balcony doors and putting on the aircon finally put paid that that minor issue. The premises are descrided as a Logis, with no apparent star rating. All in all, for the price charged, a good place to stay for a night or two.||||The restaurant offered a simple choice, which was tasty and enjoyable, washed down with a bottle of local plonk. Service was a little below par - sitting down at the opening time of 19.30||only to be told that they would be with us in 10 minutes or so! Breakfast was the normal fare, washed down with...
Read moreStayed at this hotel for 1 night in April to visit family. Hotel is well placed near centre of Montmorillion, close to all amenities and sights. Parking was easy, plenty of free spaces directly outside the hotel. Front desk were very friendly and accomodating. ||||Rooms were large and all different shapes, which gave the hotel some character. The bathroom were a great size with a modern shower and spotlessly clean. Air conditioning system was very effective and the comfortable beds gave us a good night's sleep. As other's have commented the Wifi disconnecting every 3 hours was a bit annoying, but as it was a short stay not too much of a problem. ||||Breakfast was an extra cost, but a good range of pastries, toast, eggs, breads, cereals etc. The coffee machine was delicious, I had so many coffees. ||||We would consider this hotel again should we visit family again...
