We were impressed right from our arrival here - as we pulled up to the gate of the hotel the electric hate opened for us and our host, Jean-Paul, was smiling & waiting for us on the other side. We still haven't figured out how he knew we were there, short of waiting all afternoon. It was like a little bit of magic!||||We had a hire car as this was part of a 2 week driving holiday in France, so the free & secure parking onsite was very useful. However Villeneuve is a pleasant place to walk around on foot - plenty of restaurants just a couple of minutes walk. A number of historical buildinngs of it's own!||||I was worried that this hotel would be too far out from central Avignon, that we would find visiting the city centre a bit of hard work. Not so at all - and in fact this little oasis just outside the city centre is where I will be suggesting everyone I know stay, if they wish to visit Avignon.||||The room was spacious, clean & overlooking a characterful, stone walled garden. It was very hot when we stayed (mid May) so the swimming pool & garden were a lovely place to relax.||||We are vegan and one thing that really impressed me was that Jean-Paul made sure there was almond milk so we could have this with our coffee & cereal. The local fresh cherries and having breakfast alfresco overlooking the garden & pretty pool is lovely no matter what diet requirement you have!||||As we are very nosey and probably asking too many questions, we learned this hotel is owned & run by two brothers (Jean-Paul the hotel side, his brother a chef for the attached restaurant) & that it has been in their family since their grandfather purchased it just after World War 1. If like us you like real independent, family businesses, this definitely ticks that box. It felt like a lovely bit of history your average chain hotel does not have.||||All in all, this hotel felt like such a winner to us. A great host, location & facilities. We would stay here again and reccomend to...
Read moreAnyone wanting to stay in Avignon or near Avignon would be smart to choose Les Jardins de la Livrees. Close enough for easy access to Avignon, yet in a lovely, charming suburb with lots of restaurants and history, we were thoroughly thrilled with the property. Jean-Paul, the proprietor, was friendly and so accommodating. The room, overlooking the beautiful enclosed garden, was spacious and very comfortable. We had dinner there one evening, prepared by Jean-Paul's chef brother, and it was delicious! We loved sitting in the garden in the evening with a glass of wine, enjoying the company of the three resident kitties. Les Jardins de la Livrees was one of our favorite stops during our May trip. We hope to...
Read moreWe happened to stumble across this restaurant in Villeneuve les Avignon. We didn’t know what to expect but the food was definitely the best meal we had in Provence! Luckily, it was very quiet so it was peaceful. We ate outside with the lovely view of the pool and garden. The staff were very friendly. We were given a complimentary dish of two large slices of pâté which was delicious. I had the foie gras as a starter which was smooth and delicate. For my main, I had the homemade crab and shrimp ravioli. The scallop dish was plentiful because we were given 7 scallops! The menu is a set menu for a great price. Overall, it was an amazing restaurant and I would love...
