1 star unfortunately. That 1 star was for the lovely service we got whilst there and the nice salad my vegetarian wife ate. Unfortunately as much as I liked the service, I can’t bring myself to excuse them for the food. We asked as we arrived if they catered for vegetarians and were assured that they did. Turns out they had a salad which was vegetarian and could leave one of the squid ink pastas, without meat. My wife chose the salad despite me saying that we should just leave. It actually turned out lovely. She was delighted with it. I order a fillet of beef, cooked blue, morel sauce. What I got was a sirloin cut of beef cooked blue with a morel sauce. The fries and sauce were nice. Sirloin cannot be eaten blue so it was inedible. We finished this course and I made the waiter aware of the issues we had, he was very nice about it and understood the issue with the cut of beef, he then offered to have something else made. My wife had finished her rather delicious salad, so no point me starting a new main course. We would move on. We both ordered crème Catalan, having had it in a new places locally, we looked forward to it. It wasn’t good. Crème Catalan is essentially a crème brûlée. These two had been burnt so badly they smelled of smoke, to an intoxicating level. Plus, the ‘crème’ had split, presumably from being boiled beneath the overly fired sugar that coated the top. We finished our wine which was the highlight of the night and left, we were charged for everything, €100+ for wine, fries and a salad. The rest...
Read moreJust returned from two night stay in La Fregate hotel. Location fantastic, 2 mins to beach. Rooms and communal areas all spotlessly clean. Beds comfortable. Air con in rooms great, almost silent. Rooms are not huge, I was in 3 bed room, but more than enough space for 2 adults and child. Anyway a 3 star hotel in this location is not the kind of hotel that you spend huge amounts of waking hours hanging around in your room. (TV with many channels incl BBC world news in room. Handy socket gadget in room desk that had USB port to allow phone charging as I had forgotten an adapter plug)|I was with a group of u12 boys plus parents that filled the whole hotel.|Lovely " Monsieur et Madame " that own and run hotel went the extra mile to look after large group. |They even bought in Barry's tea for us! Continental breakfast buffet fine , lovely fresh bread & croissant more than enough for me anyway. Welcome lunch of Paella very good if not quite to the palate of most of our 11 year old Dublin boys!|Wifi was tested greatly by all, with no complaints about speed or capacity.|Nice small bar beside reception with access to sunny patio with lots of tables, chairs and some comfy out door sofas. TV , seats and sofas, pool table , jigsaws , games , keyboard/piano all in foyer reception area that lead into bright airy dining area.|As it was a group trip I can't comment on the nightly rate but if it is 3 star you are looking for in Canet en Rousillion then you won't go wrong here.|Merci beaucomp à touts...
Read moreHotel la Fregate was a very well placed, central hotel. Close to the beautiful historical city and sea front.||||The room was fine - a little small but had all of the amenities that one could ask for. We had problems with the TV in our room though the free WiFi was fine. A rather small lift - it took two trips to get two of us with two large bags into the room.||||Strangely, even though the windows appeared to be in good order, we could hear the very busy touristy area just outside of our second floor room.||||Canet is definitely worth a visit and this hotel is located well and at a reasonable price.||||Parking was an issue. No designated hotel parking and parking spaces hard to find. We got into a spot of trouble with a day - worn parking attendant when trying to leave the hotel the following morning. Access to the hotel was difficult with a car.||||The staff were pleasant and very helpful.||||We would definitely...
