My lengthy review is for The Pearl Hotel’s restaurant/bar. I booked my birthday lunch at The Pearl for a party of 11. Due to the fact that St. Barths is operating off-season, I chose this place based on reviews. We were promptly seated and ordered drinks. Shout out to ‘Monsie’. I don’t want to mess up the spelling of her full name, but she was the best part of our lunch. She handled all 11 of us like the pro she is! ||While my party dined, two beautiful African ladies came in. They sat outside at first but due to the rain they had to retreat inside. The bartender, long haired, blondish fellow wearing a baseball cap backwards, barked at them when they wished to sit at a particular table. They gracefully moved. Two Caucasian women came in, sat at that very same table and were not harassed. They had no reservations either. ||It didn’t matter that our meal was lackluster. We were happy enough to have taken the chartered planes over just to lunch in St. Barths, create memories and take in the beautiful scenery. ||Skipping ahead, a friend of mine bought a bottle of champagne for our celebration. Our plane back to Anguilla was less than an hour away and the girls wanted to toast me. I asked the wait staff if it would be permitted to do so and they supplied the bucket and ice to chill our bottle. Upon popping the bottle of champagne, this very same bartender flew across the aisle way to come and stand five feet away from me and say in a loud, booming voice, “you cannot pop that here; we serve alcohol and this is not acceptable!” I could understand what he was saying because restaurants have their rules. We were not there to break them. We did ask for permission. It wasn’t what he said, it was how he said it. I celebrated my 50th birthday and on this day he thought it would be OK to talk to me as if I were not his equal. There was no respect in his tone or mannerisms. My crew spent copious amounts of money in this establishment celebrating me. I sat there and watched four birthdays, be celebrated, none were people of color. The cause of celebration was noted at the time of my booking. At no time did I receive a sparkler, a complementary glass of champagne or other beverage, nor a complementary dessert for the amount of money my party spent in this establishment. Even without spending as much I should have been granted the same courtesy as the four other celebrants. I told this man this and he replied to take it up with Management!! Instead, this lack of a gentleman chose to belittle me in a crowded restaurant, instead of wishing me a happy birthday and realizing his mistake or at least ask how he could rectify the situation. I am deeply disappointed and embarrassed on his behalf because how you treat your patrons matter. It’s us who will refer people to your business while visiting this island. His actions will cause this place to lose out in the long run, and, he was more of an embarrassment to himself than he could ever be to me. I do wish this establishment well in the future but maybe they need to lighten the load with this with this guy. He’s no good for your business There has been no place that I enjoyed that I have never gone back to —this will...
Read moreStayed 5 days with my sister at Pearl Beach Hotel. I love, love, love this hotel. It was only 5 minutes from the St Barts airport and the hotel provided me with free pick up. The front desk staff Mary Ann, Max, and Camille were so accommodating. Very informative, knowledgeable and professional. The best hotel staff I have experienced in a while. The hotel is close proximity(walking distance )to Nikki beach, Eden Rock, car rentals & grocery stores. This is a great boutique hotel in a great location. The rooms are very clean and spacious and the view from our room was absolutely breathtaking. I would definitely return and recommend to other travelers. I would have easily given 5 stars if it weren’t for the restaurant incident at the hotel. First I would like to say the food is quite good. In fact one night I ordered a lobster sandwich dinner that was to die for. Yes almost comparative to Martha’s Vineyard. So the next morning while having breakfast in the restaurant I decided to compliment the chef. So I approached someone who the waiters stated was the restaurant manager. I approached this person and asked if he was the manager. He abruptly screamed at me stating. “I’m the owner what do YOU want” in a very demeaning authoritative manner. I then stated that I wanted him to know the dinner I had the previous night was excellent and I wanted to compliment the chef. The look on the owner’s face was priceless. But the owner did not apologize he just pointed toward the kitchen. I informed both chefs of their great skills and tipped both. Then to add insult to injury the owner approached the chefs and myself while conversing and pulled the hair(locks) of one of the chefs in a degrading manner in my presence as to embarrass him. I will never understand why some people of non color have this fascination with degrading the hair of people of color. Instead of trying to degrade the chef he should admire their culinary skills with reward. Needless to say the owner could definitely benefit from cultural...
