Camping Val Andre is a renovated campsite where you wake up to the sound of seagulls. The site mainly features mobile homes and a few camping pitches. It has a lot of potential if managed well. We booked a camping pitch for our caravan for two weeks. Our Google navigation system took us through the charming village of Pleneuf-Val-Andre. However, the last 500 meters directed us to a steep 25% incline. Fortunately, we missed the exit and continued on a more suitable route for our caravan. Some directional signs would have been helpful. Upon arrival, just after 1 pm, we found the reception closed until 3 pm, which is common in France. The parking lot was too small for a car with a caravan, blocking the entrance. Luckily, we saw the passcode for the gate and, knowing our pitch number, we could enter the campsite and avoid blocking the entrance. Our pitch was surprisingly small, not fitting our caravan and tent. The site mentioned pitches of at least 90m², but ours was about half that size. During other stays at Sandaya, we were notified if our caravan wouldn’t fit. The newly added plant borders, while attractive, made positioning the caravan difficult. It seemed more suitable for a tent. We waited until 3 pm to discuss the issue with the campsite staff, but they offered no solution, stating there were no other pitches available. This was disappointing, especially given Sandaya’s “worry-free” slogan. After a long drive, this really spoiled the start of our holiday. With the help of our caravan mover, we managed to position the caravan, but there was no room left to sit outside. Despite this, we tried to enjoy our holiday. The ANWB, a renowned Dutch company for independent reviews, visited the campsite. They interviewed us and agreed that the pitch size was not up to specification and promised to discuss it. We also filed a complaint with Sandaya. Their response was even more disappointing, claiming the pitch was 100m² and dismissing our complaint. This was not customer-friendly and affected our holiday experience. Given Sandaya’s investment in branding, this is damaging to their reputation. The kids’ club staff were enthusiastic, organizing evening programs and activities for children. However, I expected at least one staff member to speak a language other than French. As a result, the evening programs were mainly attended by French guests, despite the presence of many Dutch, German, and English visitors. The food truck on-site offered food that was not very good. The burger was subpar, though the French fries were decent. For Dutch standards, it opened late at 6:45 pm, despite many Dutch guests. After some waiting, it finally opened around 7:15 pm. The toilet building is brand new but too small for the number of guests, with only five toilets and five showers. However, there was a nice baby care room with a children’s toilet and a luxurious rain shower, which we used twice. It felt like being in a 4-star hotel for a moment. Overall, the campsite facilities are nice, but bring your own toilet paper, expect small pitches, and don’t expect much help...
Read moreWe had a 4 person Cottage in September 10th-20th. We knew that the camp had no shop or restaurant but also that there were lots of restaurants in town. We were attracted by the on-site swimming pool facility. However, the pool had closed on 30th August and will not open again until 2027. I feel that SANDAYA had a duty to notify us about the lack of swimming pool because they must have known for some time.|ACCESS: We knew the town and beach was only a 1km walk but were unprepared for the 1 in 4 hill leading to the town. We are in our late 70's and reasonably fit but walking up that hill would exhaust many younger people. |Our Cottage was very new, with a nice patio deck area, good kitchen and decent size shower room. |SPACE: We had a major problem with the main bedroom - an 8ft square room, had a 6ft square King-size bed. This made it impossible to dress or undress in the bedroom and we had to shuffle along the 1ft gap at either side of the bed - The bed actually reduced the door entry to just 12 inches! - The photos in the brochure, cleverly hide the real situation. |If you were large enough to need a King-size bed - then you would have a very uncomfortable stay here, as the toilet cubicle is only about 30 inches wide. |SITE LAYOUT: The Cottage units were a little too close together and we had a rowdy group of revellers in a unit near us for one weekend. |Parking was a little tight outside our unit but there were designated parking areas.|BOOKING: with Sandaya was problematic - they state that they will notify us 10 days before the balance payment is due - but they did not. Also, they use a company called SWIKLY to collect a security deposit and again they failed to give the 10 day notice. I had to phone SANDAYA and they said "Just pay at the site". This also...
