I tried ordering drinks but because I spoke English, the bartenders systematically ignored me. When I first spoke, the guy told me he was cleaning and only the other bartender was serving so I queued to order from the other guy. Meanwhile, the so called ‘cleaner’ was serving everyone else around me and when I got to the top of the queue to order from the other bartender, the ‘cleaner’ whispered something to him after which the other bartender glanced at me and proceeded to ignore me and started serving a different section of the bar. I waited 25 minutes while they served everyone that came after me only to give up and leave. It’s so unsettling that many French people still have this anti-English sentiment.
