Hotel Kölner Hof Refrath — Hotel in Bergisch Gladbach

I booked this hotel for myself and my family to stay for 1 night to break up our journey from Prague back to the uk. I reserved a double room for 2 adults and 1 child. We didn’t arrive till late, 21.30 to be exact and we were all very tired from a long journey. When we arrived, no staff, left with a code to enter property. When we entered the room there were two single beds. We rang the number available and spoke to the owner and he told me that was the only room left and no other rooms available as fully booked, his attitude was terrible. So me and my partner had to ring round other hotels to try and get a room at half nine in the evening on a Saturday evening. We rang 4 hotels and they were fully booked. Absolutely shocking service, very dated hotel and terrible surroundings. This man does not deserve business with this terrible attitude and leaving a family stranded with no bed for the night....

The hospitality is really what makes this hotel! They are so sweet and helpful! The breakfast was decent and good & was included. Free parking and a decent restaurant across the street! The only thing is whenever we would run the bathroom sink or shower, the water from the drain on the floor would rise up and soak the whole bathroom floor and leak through into the room. It was an inconvenience being as we had a baby and used the bathroom sink to wash her bottles so by the time I was done, my feet were drenched in water. We told the front desk and they were quick to fix it but it was too late. That was really the only downside to our stay. They provided a cot for our baby and beds were comfortable but would make noise anytime you made...

The room was perfect for what it needed to be - a place to sleep. I didn’t realize the heater would reset to lower automatically or perhaps it was user error, but it got cold overnight, hence a dropped rating on that. (We left early in the morning so I didn’t get a chance to bring it up to them.) Also, some loud guests came in late and made a ruckus in the hallway, but didn’t wake the kids up. Reception was otherwise helpful and kind. Accessing the building was easy and the location is good as there is a bus stop right in front and the tram is a 10 minute walk away. It was excellent value for money and allowed us to visit the Cologne Christmas markets...
