Spacious, well-equipped rooms and excellent value make this hotel a practical choice for budget-conscious travelers. I stayed here in July 2023, and overall, it offered excellent value for money.
For the price, the service and facilities exceeded expectations. The room was very spacious and came equipped with a kitchen stocked with silverware, as well as a fairly large bathroom. Parking was free on the public street, although spaces directly in front of the hotel’s entrance were limited.
That said, the location was a bit unusual for a hotel. The area felt quite industrial, surrounded by automotive businesses, which gave it a less-than-cozy vibe. It’s also fairly far from Heidelberg’s city center, so walking isn’t really an option. If you’re driving, however, it’s about a 15-minute trip to the old town.
Inside the building, noise was a bit of an issue. The soundproofing between rooms wasn’t great, so it was easy to hear neighboring guests if they were being loud. This detracted from the overall comfort and would definitely benefit from some improvement.
The air conditioning also left room for improvement. It was locked into “full fan speed” mode, with no way to adjust the settings beyond temperature control on a fixed wall unit. This was somewhat frustrating, especially since the cold air blew directly toward the bed, making it uncomfortable to sleep. A remote control or more customizable settings would have made a big difference. To avoid the discomfort, we opted to tilt the windows open for ventilation. Unfortunately, there were no insect screens, so we ended up with a few unwelcome mosquito visitors during the night.
The bathroom experience was another minor inconvenience. The water temperature in the shower wasn’t consistent and fluctuated between too hot and too cold, likely due to shared hot water usage during peak times. It’s worth keeping this in mind when planning your showers to avoid any surprises.
Despite these drawbacks, the Boardinghotel offers a lot for what you’re paying. The spacious room, kitchen amenities, and free parking make it a great option for budget-conscious travelers, especially if you have a car to navigate the area. With some improvements to soundproofing, air conditioning functionality, and water temperature consistency, this hotel could become an even better choice for visitors...

Read moreStayed here for 3 nights on a recent trip to Heidelberg. The location of this hotel is about 5 miles outside the city center of Heidelberg, in an industrial-looking area of work shops and car dealerships which was a bit rough-looking at first. A Kaufland grocery store is in walking distance, there is also a small cafe and a Turkish supermarket located in the same building as the hotel itself, and a Subway restaurant next door, so getting something to eat for breakfast is quite simple. There are a couple more restaurants in walking distance, none of which we tried though. Even though not located in the city itself, driving to Heidelberg to go sightseeing or dining there was quite simple, one can also take a tram (which we ended up not doing). The room we had was quite sizable, with a small kitchenette, that was mostly functional when we wanted to stay in, and a good size bathroom. Beds were decent, maybe a bit too soft. The big advantage of this place, of course, is that rooms have AC, which, when it is close to 100F outside, is a big bonus. Parking was on a park deck on the roof, although we decided to park on the street outside. Service was quite friendly, WIFI was good. Overall, this was what we were looking for....
