I stayed at Hotel Katharina Garni for two nights whilst helping my daughter prepare to move in to her dormitory at the university. Our room was on the lower level. Large enough for three people-a double and a twin and a small bathroom with a shower. The room was clean, but it had a mildew smell. When we arrived we were met at the reception desk by a young woman who was very professional and welcoming. She spoke excellent English and we had a very smooth check in process. Unfortunately, the next morning she was not in attendance. I believe it was her mother at the reception desk and she did not speak english and I do not speak german. My biggest shame in life is that I'm hopeless at learning new languages - I blame myself for any miscommunication when visiting another country. I go out of my way to smile, make eye contact and plead for forgiveness! This woman was having none of that! It carried over into the breakfast room, she just was not pleasant and welcoming as you would expect someone in her position to be. I just felt an air of impatience and hostility from her the entire stay. Breakfast was included in my reservation. It was a typical German breakfast, not the best-not the worst. As other reviews have noted, the hotel is situated at the top of a very steep hill and is not conducive to exploration on foot! The biggest negatives are the smell of mildew and the steep hill. As ! said in my title, there are better...
Read moreFrom the moment you set foot in this place, you are transported back to the early 80's. The thick smell of cheap perfume tries to cover up the fact that the carpets have not been replaced in more than 20 years. The main color scheme is yellow and dusty pink. |There is a complete lack of charm and no attention to detail. |The rooms are badly lit and the furniture dates back to the 80's. Its so dated it's almost retro, give it another 5 years and they will be able to reshoot episodes of Dynasty here. |The bed is firm but the pillows are awful. It was like two hands of feathers stuffed into a pillow case. There's mould growing behind the washbasin in the brown and yellow bathroom.|It was nice to be reminded just how big TV's were back in the 80's! |The breakfast was shockingly spartan! Processed cheese heaven and stale bread served with cheap jam. |The lady of the house lacks charm, more so than the establishment she runs. Clearly out to make money and never reinvesting. |Never again. Time to pull your self into the 21st century and get out of that time warp!!! |Try one of the other hotels in Tübingen, they are...
Read moreWe received a warm welcome note from the owners when we arrived (late) and it was downhill from there. We never really met anyone who ran the guest house, they were completely absent- no advice on how to get around town, no hospitality. We think that the man who was walking a dog close to the property was the owner but he made zero effort to be the slightest bit cordial. Room was just ok, no shampoo/conditioner. Linens were very clean and beautifully ironed, pillows are awful. No mildew smell mentioned in other reviews. Breakfast was good, young helpers very pleasant, they will make an egg for you if you ask- and they smile!! Help only stays until sometime in the morning so if you want your room made up later due to jet lag or any other reason, you will be out of luck. When we said we would be out so that the room could be cleaned in a few minutes about five minutes later man (? Owner) rapped on door impatiently a second time. I feel bad for the young help working here, the emotional climate of the...
