I find myself coming back again and again to this delightful, family-owned and run hotel with an outstanding restaurant. Renata & Thomas provide a warm greeting and clean and comfortable accommodations with a plentiful breakfast in a sunny room. Whenever our day tripping allows it, we have lunch or dinner in their restaurant which is reasonably priced with an excellent range of selections -- all based on what goodies they can secure from local farmers. I've enjoyed contemporary daily specials of duck, fish, and beef -- if i can be tempted away from ordering their versions of classic German "family" food (which is much better than my grandmother's -- sorry Nanny.) The location includes parking, easy access to the train station and walking trails, and a 3 minute walk brings you within the Medieval wall of Wangen where you can wander the old streets, admire the architecture, shop, or sit and daydream. Read moreThis was my second visit to this hotel while traveling in south Germany. I like staying here for a couple reasons…1) the rooms are clean and sufficient. They are not opulent so if you are expecting 4 or 5 star spacious hotel rooms like the US adjust your thinking - these are typical european style rooms - just what you need is provided which is fine by me. 2) the restaurant food is fabulous!!! and reasonable!!! and traditional so I truly feel like I'm in another world - but don't worry you will recognize the food and there's something for everyone you are traveling with. 3) The owners are very sweet. They came by our table every time and I saw they did the same to all the patrons. 4) Walking into a walled city just down the road is an amazing experience. Also the location in general is great with easy access to many major highways. We found anywhere we wanted to get to was not a far drive at all. All in all this is a great place to stay. I do hope to visit...
Read moreWe have returned to this hotel to find the restaurant is still better than ever. Why? Really fresh food prepared in creative ways - yet still approachable and at reasonable prices. We ate here 4 out of 5 nights in Wangen because my niece fell in love with their salads and my 18 year old nephew loved their meats. Renate and Chef Thomas made us all feel at home and gave us sightseeing tips that were invaluable. Don't know why others have a problem with the restaurant closing on Mondays - this is pretty routine wherever you go. (Many restaurants are now closed 2 days a week.). Their hours were perfectly reasonable and fit well with...
