Maxlot Hotel — Hotel in Accra

Background on me: I grew up in the U.S. I've stayed in a lot of hotels. Objective. Work offshore oil & gas in Ivory Coast. Ivorian. Came for NEBOSH training with WHSO(RRC affilated) and then came back for OGUK Medical and renew BOSIET at Regional Maritime University. ||||I went to MAXLOT HOTEL in November 2016 for 5 weeks....excellent.....Came back in June 2017 for 1 week.....EXCELLENT||I visited over 20 other hotels during first week in November. For value can't beat it. There is better but for a couple hundreds(USD) more. ||MAXLOT manager(Lydia) told me I could leave at anytime and cancel at anytime so no pressure. And I always look for better bargains. After looking everywhere, I decided to stick with Maxlot and have not regretted it once. ||||LOCATION||It's on MapQuest. Accurate.||Great location. Next to a police station (Nima Police Station), German-French International school right in front and President's House (current president's house) so as you can imagine, it is an extremely secured area. It's just a good area in general. Walking distance to several different ATM machines, banks, pharmacies, Ring Road(which is a major road). The good things is it is not on the main road, but just behind...so nice and quiet.You can cross the parking lot of the building in front and catch a cab at anytime. 10 min to Nkrumah Circle, 15 min to beach, 15 min to Accra Mall, 20 min Accra Airport, 35 min to Regional Maritime University, 40 min to Team area. ||||ISSUE : I suggest asking for MAXLOT airport pick-up service. Only because you can walk to main road in 60 seconds, but to drive up could be difficult to explain. Only because the president's house so they make taxis go around rather than road we used to take which is direct. Going around is very easy, not difficult, but could be difficult if you are not familiar or especially at night. I am sure they will have a little map of route taxi should take or signs posted later on. This is recent change because president was elected and they added a security.||Point of reference when I took taxis: "I'm going to Ecobank next to Nima Police Station." I would cross the parking lot of building in front of Ecobank and I'm at Maxlot. Very safe. ||||SECURITY||I've already touched on the security of the area. The hotel itself is great. The girls that clean the room are honest. No issues. I had a lot of valuable stuff. nothing touched. I know exactly how I leave my stuff btw.||||HOSPITALITY ||From the Manager, to the receptionist, to the bartender to the restaurant server, to the lifeguard at the pool, the security guards at gate and even the guy that opened the door....everybody was cordial, smiled and greeted....and not in that money hungry "Give me a tip way"....just sincere kindness. I got great advice every time I asked anybody for advice. Found solutions to all my requests. ||||CLEANLINESS /HYGIENE||Very very clean. This is a 10. No dust. no cracks in the wall. Clean sheets. clean towels. No roaches. No mosquitoes. no bugs of any kind. Still looks new. Very stylish. ||||A/C||The Air Conditioning works great. Unless your an idiot and don't understand that you have to set the degree to something reasonable...lol...If you set it to 19, of course you will be cold and when you turn it off of course you'll be hot....This is Africa...lol||||TRANSPORTATION||Easy to get a cab. I touched on this in Location section. You can use UBER.||Hotel staff would give me good tips on how much I should spend on cab so I knew how to bargain. ||||WI-FI||Wi-Fi was awesome. quick. can connect with different devices simultaneously. ||||FOOD ||The food was great. Jollof rice or Fried Rice with chicken or chicken pieces, different salads, burgers, and another local dish which is green...I forgot name but it was very good...I think there's eggs mixed in. Free Breakfast is great. All I would want from hotel breakfast. If you want better...go to IHOP or DENNY'S.||Beers were nice and cold. I loved the green pepper sauce that came with jollof rice. ||||ATM||Again ATMs and banks within 60 second walk, others nearby - some walking, some driving. Ecobank is my bank so I withdrew from there. I just step out of hotel, cross parking lot in front of hotel and cross Ring Road and BAM...I'm at Ecobank. Of course you can use any Visa card in ATM. ||||WATER / ELECTRICITY||Water all the time. Water Heater. ||For Electricity they have a back-up generator. ||||POOL ||Clean. I went swimming 5 days in row. I really like the paintings/murals on walls around pool.||||POWER OUTAGES||Very seldom.(by seldom I mean 5 times out of 40 days - Nov 16 and June 17 stays) Maybe for 2 hours at most. Never happened at night. ||They brought up wi-fi box for me to use so I could stay connected despite power outages. flashlight just in case. Apologized. ||I mean honestly, if you expect more than this...than you need to spend a couple extra hundred dollars. They are a hotel and not responsible for the power supply problems of the country. They do amazing job. ||||PICTURES ON-LINE||Yes. All the pictures that I saw on-line corresponded exactly to reality. I was impressed. I can even say that the reality is better than pictures. ||||NIGHT LIFE ||Plenty of spots in 5 and 10 min driving radius. There's a restaurant next to Maxlot...like you ||||||SUMMARY ||This is a great place for business travelers, people in for training or studies, families.||This will be my go to hotel for all future trips to Accra area. ||GREAT PRICE. GREAT VALUE. ||||Good place for partying, girls, heavy drinking while in Ghana ...Vienna City hotel in Tema. ||||Great place for business, studying, couples, vacation stay in Ghana.....MAXLOT in Accra....btw I made it to Regional Maritime University in 30 minutes flat. ||||Hope this helps. I have stayed the last 2 weeks at the Maxlot Hotel in Accra. It's rated 2 stars, located some distance from town, and is small. But....... Don't despair. In a city of astronomical hotel prices this is a very good deal at 150 USD per night. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly, when Internet was down they always had a modem for me to use. The pool is small but well maintained and the chef in the kitchen is a hidden jewel! Best pizzas you are ever going to have. Beautiful updated hotel. The rooms were very nice and clean. However my room needed more lights. It was dark. The bathroom was clean. Refrigerator is in the room with complimentary water. The hotel has a restaurant and a bar/lounge. Breakfast is included as well. Dinner was excellent and so was breakfast. Our waiter Chemi was amazingly helpful with dinner suggestions. He was very attentive. The staff was also pleasant and helpful. I suggest that the rooms have a mirror so i can see what my entire outfit looks like. I...
