As are most pensions in Greece this is quite a small hotel. The location is near the water at Galaxidi but not directly where most of the restaurants and other shops are. These are a short say 5 to 10 minute walk away. We didn’t see this as a bad thing as in our experience closer to the action means closer to the noise, so I would say a good distance away. We were given a room with quite a large balcony and a kitchenette. I don’t think all rooms have this so you might want to ask for it if it would be useful. The room was a typical small Greek hotel room with just enough space to spread your bags out on the floor. The bed and the shower were just average, not a complaint but just average. We needed to get some laundry done and although the hotel doesn’t normally do this they helped us do some translating and a bit of negotiation and generally acted as the go between to get our laundry done externally. They didn’t need to do this so I must say this was very good of them. Both mornings we were there we left before breakfast so I can make no comment on that. This was not and expensive place to stay so I think we generally got what we paid for. The only real downside I must mention is that although our room was technically air conditioned, the unit was so old it was little more than a glorified fan. We stayed during an abnormally hot period in early June so this was a pretty big drawback and tended to dominate our overall feeling about the stay. If you were there in cooler whether I’m sure you would walk away with a better impression. Would we stay there again, not if the weather was...
Read moreIf you are visiting Delphi or driving around Greece then Galaxidi and Hotel Hirolakas is must stop. Don't stay in the overpriced touristy Delphi, Galaxidi is just down the road and on the water. Our room was on the top floor with an incredible sea view from the large balcony. The room was impeccably clean and well furnished. It was very large, more of a suite, with a separate bedroom and a couch in the central area. And the service was outstanding. The breakfast was a nice spread of typical cereals, breads and cakes with great coffee, THEN the host cooks you toast with cheese and canadian bacon/ham, serves you a large glass of fresh-squeezed orange juice AND THEN serves fried eggs with more bacon. I was happy when I saw the cereals and breads, then totally blown away by the rest! Make sure you are hungry when you go for breakfast. I think this hotel is rated 1-Star or something like that because it is small with 7 or 8 rooms, but it is nicer than most supposed 4-Star places we have stayed. We are already planning a return trip to Greece and will stay here for an entire week. Not a whole lot to do in the local area but a perfect place to relax. You cant beat the value for the money and the local restaurants are very good and also...
Read moreWe thoroughly enjoyed our 5-night stay here. We had a room with a small kitchenette, a bathroom with jacuzzi and a large terrace with a nice view of the town and the small, quiet bay. The owner is a delightful lady who will always try to help out in any way she can. Classic breakfast fare is complemented by some of her home made breads, cakes and jams (all delicious). All of this for very reasonable rates make it excellent value for money. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.||The Hirolakas is situated about 5-10 minutes walk from the main part of town (the other bay/harbour) where most of the restaurants are concentrated. In our opinion this was a great advantage! You can also walk to this area around the headland (about 15 minutes). This is a lovely walk BUT, as so often in Greece, you have to share the road with local traffic, so a bit dangerous when it begins to get dark! Galaxidi is a lovely place to spend a few days away from the hustle and bustle, and a great choice if vising nearby Delphi (which, of course,...
