We are a South African family who booked 2 rooms through Jet2Holidays, and were very impressed with this stunning resort. One of our rooms was sea facing and the other had a side sea view. The rooms are well appointed with a lounge area and a balcony which is useful for drying wet towels on the provided clothes horse. My grandson's camp cot was in the room when we arrived. The bathrooms are quite small, but functional. A nice touch was to receive a 500ml bottle of water per person every day. There is also a mini fridge where you can keep drinks bought outside the hotel cold for consumption in the rooms. The aircon is of a very good standard.||The hotel is situated on quite a steep hillside, and there are many steps from the rooms to reception or down to the sea. This may be a problem for people with mobility issues, although there is a cart which can be used. We were pleased that the stairs gave us a chance to walk off some of the amazing food consumed.||We stayed on a half board basis, with buffet breakfasts and dinners. Each night for 7 nights the dinner buffet had a theme, which was then repeated the following week. The food was of a very high standard for a buffet. In fact, I can say it is the best buffet food I've ever had! Breakfasts had everything hot or cold one could think of, and the dinners offered at least 4 or more different salads, as well as a build your own salad section. There were at least 10 ore more hot dishes and also a build your own section based around the theme for the night eg burgers at BBQ night, bao buns at Asian night etc. Not many buffets offer a comprehensive sushi choice, but this was offered at Asian night. There were also various shrimp/prawn and calamari/squid combinations offered too, as well as the most delicious carvery meats, like roast pork, turkey, beef etc.||There are a number of pool areas with loungers besides the private beach area. We never had a problem finding loungers. Just a reminder that the beach is not sandy, but made of small to medium sized pebbles, so sand shoes are useful. Food and drink service is available on the beach and around the pools through an app called Exclusivi, and it works well.||We had our 21 month old grandson with us, and the staff were always very kind to him. Special thanks to Evmorphia (I hope I spelt her name correctly) who was fantastic with him. We did take him to the very well-equipped Children's Club so that he could use the equipment there under our supervision. Over 4 year olds can be left there with the child minder. The gym was also well equipped.||There are a few small things which could possibly be improved on, although they did not really spoil our holiday. We would have liked a few more water activities available. There was only one 2-man canoe as the others were broken, and there could have been a few more SUPs. Perhaps there could also have been jetskis or little boats available for hire. The hotel is not near a supermarket and you need to take the bus into Nidri or Nikiana to go and buy soft drinks or extra water as the price of these is a lot higher in the resort. Eg Vikos lemonade for 250ml is €5, compared to a can of Sprite for €1 in the supermarket. Water is even more expensive in the hotel compared to the supermarket. The bus stop is right out side and costs €2 pp each way, however, there are not very many buses and they are often full when passing the hotel. Three other small cons are that the empty plates are sometimes not cleared away promptly, and there are plenty of wasps, which are very disconcerting with a baby around. I know they are part of nature, and the hotel does try and burn coffee to chase them, but I think more can be done. They are wasps which actually prefer proteins to sugars, not like regular bees. We would also have liked to have had a bit more entertainment in the evenings. On 2 nights a week there were 2 people signing Greek songs just outside the restaurant, but it would have been nice to have had some extra music or dancing available.||We did hire a car one day and drove round to the west. However, be advised that the roads there are very windy and narrow, and the beaches are very inaccessible via a steep road down from the main road, often costing €10 or more to park and then another €25 for loungers and an umbrella. They are magnificent though! ||If we ever return to beautiful Lefkada (which is way less touristy than many other Greek islands, so we really loved it) we would definitely choose Porto Galini...
Read moreThe good things: Resort is stunning, well-kept, full of vegetation and flowers, everything is taken care of with attention. The hotel area is clean and beautiful. The private beach is one of the most beautiful I've seen, tiny stones (no need for special shoes), quiet, clear water, you can see the fish. You can take as many sap boards and kayaks from the lifeguard (free) as you want, there is a waiter on the beach from 11 am to 6 pm and there is a nice menu of food, drinks and alcohol. The pools are also clean and pleasant, we were mostly at the beach. There is no music on the beach or at the pool, so a pleasant silence, and a relaxed atmosphere. The breakfast is great, you can arrive between 7.30 and 11am and it is very convenient for both early risers and late sleepers. Lots of choice and we all enjoyed ourselves. The staff is all nice, alert, available and patient. We took a 2-room suite, which was large, spacious and bright. A very comfortable double bed, towels are changed when requested, large beach towels, kettle, coffee and tea. A huge balcony overlooking the sea. For the bad sides: In the suite - 2 sinks, in one the flow of water is too weak and quite impossible, second one immediately clogs. In the bath - a stream of water that is sometimes hot and sometimes cold, and you can't do anything with it. Just got cold water and then hot water throughout the shower. Imagine children showering like this. we contacted reception, they sent a technician but it didn't solve the problem and all our showers were while we were alert. The air conditioner - didn't cool enough, doesn't manage to cool the room when it's very hot outside. Pleasant in the evening, but not cold enough during the day. they sent a technician who worked for a long time in the room, and the problem was not solved. We were left with puddles on the floor and I had to ask the receptionist for a maid to come and clean. The air conditioners are outdated, low down close to the floor, and not well function. In the bedroom - only one Electrical outlet!!! You have to bend down between the wall and the table, move the table to reach it, and connect the kettle. I left it like that, because it is impossible to go through this whole story every time just to switch between appliances. all phone charging, etc. had to be done in the central room, where there were more sockets. A big disadvantage - it is not possible to darken the room. The curtains are not color block and in the morning when the sun rises, the whole room is bathed in light. The refrigerator leaked a little on the floor as well. There is no chance to sit on the balcony throughout the day, because there is no shade. The hotel staff know these problems - they knew about the air conditioner and also about the water alternating between cold and hot, but they act as if it's the first time they've heard this and never apologize, for Nothing. The sentence "I'm sorry to hear" just doesn't come out of their mouths, No empathy, no compensation, it is what it is. When it comes to a suite that costs 410 euros per night, this is unacceptable, unprofessional and disappointing. There is always a way to make a guest feel better, even if there is no solution to the problem. Always. And I think that in a hotel of such a 5-star level, it should be an integral part of the service and completely basic. The beach beds - you must arrive early to grab beds, otherwise there are none. Around 10-11am all the beds and parasols are occupied. The play facilities in the game room cost money, each use was paid for. In a hotel where a few individual games are the only activity the children have, and at such a level of 5-star luxury, it was possible to waive the payment and allow free use. In conclusion: God is in the details. And in the small details they failed. The place is amazing, calm, pleasant, clean and beautiful. We enjoyed our stay there. But the reception staff's handling of the problems in the room was inappropriate and insulting And certainly not in any way suitable for a hotel that...
