Firstly, I wouldn't class the accommodation as a hotel but more like rooms with a small pool.||||The rooms have been recently refurbished and nicely decorated with modern bathrooms. However, we couldn't use the walk in rain shower because the whole bathroom gets flooded . We therefore had to use the hand held shower attachment with the minimum flow of water and at the same time mop to direct a drain behind the toilet. ||||The bed was comfortable and we had good nights sleep, however the main ceiling lights didn't work when the switch was turned on. There is a busy road nearby but the double glazing kept the noise out||||We had a small balcony, we couldn't use it because the water from next doors air conditioning caused puddles on it . We complained to the man on reception but nothing was done about it. There was an extra daily charge of 5 euros to use the air conditioning and 9 euros to use a safety box at reception.||||The buffet breakfasts were of a poor qualitity with little choice but a cooked english style breakfast cost 7 euros extra or an omelette 6 euros per person. A buffet diner was available at 15 euros if booked in the morning.||||There are no places to eat within a short walking distance except for the Dikitmos restaurant on site where we ate on two nights. We ordered greek food which was very good, with large portions, good service and reasonably priced.||||Regarding the location, there is a long sandy beach with excellent swimming close by but it was very crowded with sun beds/umbrellas on virtually on all of the beach which cost 12 euros per set daily. There is a snack bar in the middle of the beach which rapidly prepares food and drinks for the crowds. In the late afternoon/early evening when tourists leave for their hotels, local families arrive to enjoy the uncrowded beach and its facilities. ||||A big mention to Zoe on reception who was very friendly...
Read moreWhen we arrived the parkade was blocked by vehicles for some sort of party with live music in the restaurant which is associated with the hotel, we couldn't find the office to check in for a little while as the host is also a bartender across the way.
Service was fine everyone was nice, just hard to find the evening of our check in
The room was fine, with the exception of one minor/major complaint of the bathroom which would flow to the rest of the bathroom, and there was a long handle squeegie to sweep the water back to a drain. This left the floors slippery no matter what you do. Could be solved by having proper drainage or some sort of barrier for the shower.
Pool seemed rather dirty but was fine as we had no intention of using it. Wifi and AC was fine as well. Breakfast was rather good with juice, and a variety of options and pastries. Restaurant across was good as well!
The location is easy to get to by car but rather far (25 minute walk) from town center and no paths there without walking on the road before the beach (at least from what we could find.
This would easily be a 2-3 star review if the price wasn't so good compared to the rest of what we...
Read moreWe reviewed this hotel 6 years ago and this is our fifth visit .. I shouldn’t have to say anything else really. This is of those rare establishments where they genuinely care whether you are having a good holiday. New management has definitely injected a new dynamic into a tried and tested formula. |A lovely small hotel. Looked after by loyal staff who know their customers. Fabulous breakfast - eggs cooked to order - I have tried to replicate them at home to no avail- probably because you need the place and the people to go with the breakfast.|It’s just a short walk to the wonderful sandy beach of Almiros and a slightly longer walk into the picturesque town of Aghios Nikolaos. |The taverna attached to the hotel serves tasty food at reasonable prices- served with a warmth and care which had us returning night after night.|A hire car is a good idea if you’re after exploring more of the island and the hotel manager is a mine of information. |The Naïades Almiros River Hotel remains a true taste of traditional Cretan hospitality in an increasingly commercialised world....
