We stayed in Kontokali Bay Resort with B&B for 1 week. Our favourite things about the resort were the stunning views and crystal clear sea. We would certainly like to return, even if just for that. I do have some more critical feedback on the resort but overall we were very happy with our stay. Similar to what other reviewers are saying, if there was an option for 4.5/5 I would go with that.||The reception is nice and modern, with attentive and welcoming staff, including the porters too! In terms of breakfast, there is a good selection of food from fried eggs and pancakes to fruits and cereals. My partner is coeliac and was able to request gluten free pancakes and toast (some of the best GF pancakes and toast I have tasted as a non-coeliac). The main older gentleman who was front of house for the breakfast service, really looked after us during out 7 day trip. One nitpick I would have is some of the other staff were a bit slow to prepare tables, offer tea/coffee.||The resort included a nice (and free) shuttle bus to Corfu old town which we used one of the days, it was fantastic and a great perk to have. There were other free perks we really appreciated too, like a 1L bottle of water provided to our room each day and a bottle of win on arrival. The entertainment in the resort was at a higher level than what you'd typically find at other resorts - live instruments like saxophones, trumpets, violins and varying genres each night.||In terms of the rooms, ours was a small bit dated and in my opinion was more in line with a 4* hotel as opposed to 5*. The cleaning staff were fantastic, 10/10, we did not cross paths with them once (which is a first for me, they moved like spies XD).||The lunch service was only okay and definitely did not inspire us to get dinner at the resort. The main issue was the pricing, €21 for a plain pizza... that I have to go collect myself.||On the topic of pricing, the drinks were also on the more expensive side, which I get because it's a 5 star resort, but for some drinks they were having a laugh. €4.50 for a 250ml soft drink like Coke was too high, especially when at all nearby restaurants they were €2.50-€3. I recommend anyone staying at the resort to avoid the onsite shop, and instead go to one of the nearby local shops 5 minutes down the road (for half the price).||One thing I really want to call out is how dangerous it was leaving/returning to the resort by foot, especially at night. There are no footpaths, and to compliment that, the roads are bendy. Although it is a public road and not owned by the resort, I would like to think the hotel are advocating for a footpath to be built. There are however actions the hotel could have taken, for example, informing residents of the risks (e.g. which side of the road to walk on), providing temporary high visibility jackets / flashlights, offering a small shuttle service to the end of the road. Just some ideas.||Despite my feedback, we had a really great time and would...
Read moreNot quite a 5 star for my money. The welcome on arrival was great, all the staff throughout the hotel at every level were fantastic with smiles and greetings every day. Chosen by the wife for her special birthday. The vistas were also great either overlooking the marina or the bay itself, you could see Corfu town and old fort or across to Albania. Facilities were great too including the spa. A few things though let it down, in general rooms were cleaned each day but dust was not brushed away so collected in corners, towels were changed but not really needed. Coffee sachets were replaced but you had to ask reception when they could have just been done by the attendant BUT you had a fresh bottle of water each day ,most welcome. The bathroom was quite spacious but the step over bath for the shower was awkward, the half glass panel was not really much use stopping water so the floor got quite wet and slippery. Our balcony faced west so got a lot of afternoon sun we had average 35c each day which meant the metal chairs, table and railings got very hot. Hotel bar/food bills gave you an option to charge to your room or pay cash, I always like to PAYG as its easier to control and in most instances it was fine BUT word of warning, most hotels ask to just sign they ask for your room number so people can overhear as we found out when it came to settle up as there was a larger amount on top, this was sorted without a problem however so well done. There were just a few things that were a bit disjointed . A free shuttle bus runs each day into Corfu but it is 1 out at 0930 (bookable) and back at 1330, this could be made a bit more frequent to allow more options for guests, only one is to use the public bus every 2 hours at e4. Trips and tours can be booked at the desk which was good because for us the THEOTOKY ESTATE winery tour & tasting was a must, very worthwhile. We booked B&B option as we like to use local family bars & restaurants which with 3 all within 5 to 15 minutes walk gave us a great option, (hotel prices a little high) although the lower snack bar was ok, a shame as with lower bar prices I'm sure more people would have a few nights in the hotel. No.1 was KERKYRA a small place at the bottom of the road 8 minutes served great food and reasonable priced drinks, you cannot miss it. No.2 was ROULA fish restaurant, turn right out of the hotel and follow the signs, another good eating place, a little pricier but the boss and waiters are great for some banter, great views over the marina, and No.3 is literally at the end of the hotel beach past the hedgerow, Natalie's, we had 3 visits to each place, all were packed each time. If you like wine there are some nice Greek one's to try and if it's beers then go for it, my friend and I found around 8 we had not had before. All in all we had a...
Read moreWe stayed at this resort recently and had a mixed experience. While the hotel is in a reasonably good location and the beach is average but adequate, several aspects fell short of expectations, largely due to what seems like cost-cutting measures that directly affect service levels.
Staff were generally pleasant, though not particularly proactive — and in one incident, disappointing (more on that below). The overall atmosphere is functional rather than indulgent, and that unfortunately defines much of the stay.
Examples of Cost-Cutting: • Only one water bottle per room per day, regardless of heat (we had 30°C+ days). • The outdoor shower near the swimming pool shuts at 7 pm, despite sunset being after 8:30 pm. • While the hotel advertises three restaurants, two of them are more for wine promotion than genuine à la carte dining — the main buffet serves food to all outlets, so the variety is more illusion than reality.
Facilities: • The Kids Club doesn’t actually exist, and the so-called games room smells of fungus, with a damp and musty feel — comparable to an old pub toilet. • Water sports and private charter hire are fragmented across different providers, with a concierge team acting as a go-between. Pricing is inconsistent, especially for charters via Corfu Marina, making it difficult to know who to trust.
Incident Worth Mentioning:
A disappointing experience involved a bar staff member who initially offered to help retrieve our daughter’s swimming accessories from the pool overflow. He later denied ever seeing them, despite other staff confirming it was found and handed in to lost & found. Whether it was misplaced or taken by someone else remains unclear — but the lack of accountability and contradiction between staff was concerning. It also felt like staff were hesitant to speak up, possibly due to internal culture.
On a Positive Note: • The yoghurt at breakfast deserves mention — but not for the right reasons. UK travellers expecting the creamy quality of Greek brands like Fage may be disappointed — it felt like a poor substitute. • The beach and pool areas are clean and visually appealing, even if the experience doesn’t match the aesthetics.
Overall Verdict:
This is not a 5-star resort experience. At best, it’s a 3.5-star property operating on tight margins. I’d rate it 6/10 — we’ve stayed at better, more welcoming resorts with private coves and personalised service. There’s potential here, but it’s being let down by poor prioritisation and a lack of...
