Kalathas Sunset Villa — Hotel in Municipality of Chania

Four of us shared the apartment at Kalathas Sunset Villa for four days this October. It was, seriously, perfect. The apartment is spacious, very well-equipped, and comfortably furnished. Each of the three bedrooms has double glass doors opening on to the terrace—doors complete with shutters and screens. The terrace is huge and private and provided with both a large umbrella and an awning. The terrace is, again, very well furnished with a table and a wide variety of chairs & lounges. The view is spectacular. The true treasures of Kalathas Villa, however, are the hosts, Efi & Spiros. I’ve never known hosts more attentive to their guests’ needs and wants. We found a kitchen furnished with, among many other things, cereal, milk, juice, and eggs. Not one gifted bottle of wine but two and a bottle of that Cretan specialty, raki. Elsewhere in the apartment Efi & Spiros seemed to have anticipated all our possible needs down to laundry detergent & toothpaste. Efi checked in with us, casually & unobtrusively, each day to see how we were doing & what we needed. Any drawbacks? The driveway is short & steep & not for the faint of heart. Spiros met us at the entry the first day, gave us perfect advice on how to tackle the drive, and led us up. After the first endeavor, further efforts became second nature. Planes, civil & military, fly overhead but Chania isn’t O’Hare or Heathrow—there just aren’t that many planes. Absolutely stunning views from the huge outdoor patio and every interior room. What sunsets! But you want to know what the best part of staying at Kalathas Sunset Villa is? It's the owners Efi and Spiros!! They are simply wonderful. We arrived too late to go to a restaurant for dinner so Efi prepared a large cheese pie for us...it was still warm-yum, so good, a Greek salad, fresh fruit and wine. She was beyond thoughtful. Then, when we opened the refrigerator it was stalked with more fruit, cheese, bread, butter jam, water, wine and beer, and more! We hiked Samaria Gorge on day 3 and Spiros drove us over 1 hour to the trail head at 6AM. He did it out of the kindness of his heart. And Spiros has a BIG heart! The accommodations were fantastic. 3 large bedrooms, one ensuite, one extra full bath, a fully equipped kitchen, large living and dining rooms, and oh that outdoor patio with chairs, tables and the view! There is a gas grill we used to grill lamb chops one night just so we could enjoy more of the view. There is a great, safe swimming beach 1/4 mile from the villa, actually, right below the villa. We have stayed at numerous BnBs around Europe but Kalathas Sunset Villa has truly been our best experiences so far. Sea, sun, sand and perfect accommodation! Perfect tandem - the best place for relax on the beach and for stay on the villa, fast beach access and private placement at the same time! Location is very convenient - not far from Chania and from airport, in front of the beach Kalathas. The beach with a shallow sea, that's why it has warm water and no waves: it's ideal for child's swimming. We were at the sea twice a day. Accommodation is very comfortable and high quality. It's good for family with children. There is a beautiful garden, especial view from villa at morning (sunrise), day, evening (sunset), night (you can see fireworks from Chania); on terrace there is also table for 6 persons in open air under the shed, sun beds, table for two persons under sun umbrella and many others things - all for good relax at any part of the day. There are all home appliances as you need: iron, dishwasher, washing machine, cooker, oven and microwave oven, fridge, hairdryer etc. Unique atmosphere thanks to owners: any help and advice for your needs.
