We booked 8 nights in the family apartment with our baby. The house was clean, appliances were new, and the host was friendly at first.
On the 4th night, we found a live cockroach behind the curtain and immediately informed the host. He spoke to the cleaning lady and later told us that previous guests had left a window open without closing the screen, which might have let cockroaches in. We told him we had never opened the windows and always kept the screens shut.
He arranged pest control the next day and offered to move us to a smaller family studio. We accepted politely and were thankful.
However, on the 5th night in the new room—which had been sealed and never opened—we found another live cockroach on our baby’s towel. Concerned for our child’s safety, we decided to leave early and requested a refund for the last 3 nights (€217).
That’s when the host’s attitude completely changed. He denied ever seeing cockroaches, implying we were lying, and initially offered only €100. He also claimed our early departure caused him financial loss, even though we were the only guests for the first 5 nights in the whole building. When we asked why we’d invent such a story during a family holiday, he coldly replied, “You tell me,” three times.
We told him clearly we weren’t trying to leave a bad review and would even leave a positive one if the matter was handled well. His response: “I don’t care about reviews — I already have 28 good ones on Booking.” From that moment, he showed no interest in resolving the issue, only in protecting himself.
My husband, holding our baby, became very upset at the false accusations and called the police. After a long and difficult conversation, the host agreed to refund €150 — still short of the full amount — and never apologized or offered compensation for the downgrade.
We spent hours disinfecting our belongings and baby clothes out of caution. We even bought our own cleaning supplies and took out the trash every day. Before leaving, I even apologized for my husband’s reaction and thanked him. He never apologized to us once.
We do not recommend this place for families with young children, especially the family apartment or studio. Also note: the property is in a rural area with farm animals and overgrown weeds — not ideal if you’re not used to that...
