For those booking all inclusive, listen to the bad reviews, they are there for a reason. This is at best a 2 star quality hotel. The amenities are not very accessible if you have mobility issues and even the most accessible room you have to walk up and down a steep hill/stairs to access reception, pool and restaurant.
It is not what you would expect from a 4 star hotel or ever a 3 star. I tried to address some issues with staff but although some of them were friendly they were not helpful, it was pretty much you pay or we can't help you. The location is the best thing about the hotel if you are looking for a secluded holiday as it is just by the beach. If you want to go to town or the city you can only go via taxi or walking 30 mins to get a bus on top of the hill. Very steep and no pavements. Taxis to the city are 40 euros each way sometimes they decide they will charge you 50 euros and to the closest town it is around 15 euros.
All amenities we not as we expected from what is advertised and from what you would normally get from a 4 star hotel all inclusive package. The meals are very limited not a lot of choice and by day 3 you get bored of the food,as it is the same thing everyday. They also have a weird thing about you can only get certain drinks at certain times /location. You have to pay to have bottled water in the rooms which should be the basic, as the tap water is not drinkable. They also don't tell you this when you check in. Be prepared to pay for meals and drinks outside the hotel. I wish I never spent the extra money for all inclusive package at this hotel. Not worth it I spent an extra 300 euros than what expected for food and drinks, as there's not many choices for restaurants in the area, each meal for 2 people will be around 20euros to 40 euros (if you have a drink with it) in the cheapest restaurant in the area. Luckily I could put up with the food for a meal a day and my friend mainly eats one meal a day and snacks during the day.
There's also no entertainment at this hotel. This is not an accessible hotel and I wish they had told me that when I emailed them almost a month prior to my trip. I asked for an accessible room as my friend has a disability the most accessible room still was not accessible. Although she is not wheelchair bound, she needs to use one for long distances, we did not bring the chair as we assumed the amenities were going to be accessible same floor level maybe a few steps this was not the case. We were also planning on only leaving to go to the beach a few days in the week, since they said they were going to sort an accessible room for us, we thought it was going to be manageable for her to walk after checking Google maps. Even the most accessible room left her in excruciating pain daily, as we still had to go uphill (steep) to get to the room in the middle of the hill, there were steps in the room and to get into the beds and if she wanted to eat at the restaurant there were a lot of steep steps. The hill is also very steep so even if we had brought her wheelchair we would not be able to get to the room, no wheelchair would be able to get up, self propelled or pushed. I enquired about this almost a month prior to the date we were meant to arrive. If I only took the bad reviews seriously and was told about accessibility issues I would have paid to change my booking.
Also ants everywhere you can not escape them. Centipedes kept getting into our room I am terrified of them so my friend kept having to remove them. The pool looked very dirty full of bugs and yellow stain, if you are going to advertise the pool as an amenity keeping that clean would be ideal. We ended up going to the beach instead. As once again very difficult for us to get to the pool as steep hill. I appreciate it is technically off season but we still got changed for in season tourist tax, and amenities were not as described. Rooms also only got cleaned once in 6 nights. I asked for towels at one point, duvets have no covers and god knows if they get washed...
Read morePerfect Greek vacation – better than expected in every way!||I recently spent a holiday in Crete, staying at Lygaria Beach Hotel, booked through TUI, and I can honestly say it was one of the best vacations I’ve ever had – and that’s coming from someone who almost didn’t book it because of some of the negative reviews online.||Before the trip, I had read several mixed or even negative reviews that made me a bit hesitant. Based on those comments, I was prepared to be disappointed or at least to have a long list of complaints. But the truth is – none of those reviews matched reality. Quite the opposite – the hotel, staff, food, location, and whole atmosphere completely exceeded my expectations. I think some people just look for problems where there are none.||TUI handled everything professionally from start to finish. The transfer from the airport was smooth and comfortable, and on the departure day they even arranged a private taxi just for me. That was a really nice surprise. What made it even more special was the conversation I had with the local Greek taxi driver, who had lived on the island for over 40 years. He told me all about local life, traditions, and hidden spots – it felt like an unofficial guided tour on the way to the airport. I really appreciated that personal touch.||The hotel itself was fantastic. My room was clean and comfortable, with fresh towels replaced daily, strong AC, and everything I needed. The staff were friendly, polite, and always ready to help. I felt truly welcomed.||The all inclusive package was 100% genuine – no tricks, no restrictions. Every day there was a wide range of tasty food, including meat, fish, vegetables, salads, desserts and more. The drinks were great too – served all day and evening – coffee, tea, soft drinks, local beer and spirits, and well-made cocktails. The bartenders were always smiling and generous.||The pool area was clean and peaceful, with more than enough sunbeds and umbrellas. The pool bar was open from 9:30 AM to 10:30 PM and offered snacks, cold drinks, and amazing cocktails. Music was playing softly in the background, creating a relaxing holiday vibe throughout the day and evening.||But the beach is what truly made this place unforgettable. Lygaria Beach is far better than nearby Made Beach or Agia Pelagia – it’s quieter, more spacious, and never overcrowded. The water was crystal clear, ideal for swimming and snorkeling. I saw fish, crabs, and even an octopus close to shore – amazing for nature lovers.||There are plenty of activities available right at the beach – I went scuba diving with a professional instructor and it was an unforgettable experience. You can also rent jet skis, motorboats (no license needed), paddle boards, kayaks or pedal boats. There’s something for everyone – from full relaxation to adrenaline and fun.||The location of the hotel is absolutely perfect – in a scenic bay surrounded by cliffs and cozy tavernas. Everything is within walking distance. I rented a quad to explore the area, and even after visiting other beaches and towns, Lygaria was by far the best spot – peaceful, beautiful, and perfectly located.||I also want to mention the older gentleman working at the hotel – I saw some negative reviews about him too, which I don’t understand at all. He doesn’t speak Polish, but he communicates well in English and Greek. When I spoke to him in English, he was very kind, offered advice on drinks, and explained local customs. Honestly, he was one of the most genuine people I met during the trip – I think some guests simply misunderstood him.||In short – this vacation was so much better than I expected. TUI was great, the hotel exceeded expectations, the location was amazing, and the atmosphere was perfect for a relaxing Greek holiday. Don’t let the negative reviews scare you off – they have nothing to do with reality. If you come here with a positive mindset, you’ll have an unforgettable time. I’d come back...
Read moreWe were booked in for 5 days total, arrived early hours of the morning (1:00 am) and greeted by man at reception (Emmanuel I believe) who was very welcoming and helpful and assisted taking our bags to our room. We were rather disappointed with our room initially as did not look anything like the pictures advertised on love holidays website. Very dated and a bit run down, bare bones. Worst of all we had booked a double room (room with a double bed) and supposedly a balcony - the room had neither, and on returning to reception we were told we were unable to change rooms there and then as the hotel was full, however people were checking out in the morning so we would be able to swap to our booked room after 11:00 am. ||When we returned to reception the following morning, we were greeted by a different man whom I believe is the hotel manager (named Costas). on explaining that we were here to change rooms as told by Emmanuel the previous night, Costas immediately became very annoyed and told us it was not in our booking and that we should be happy with what we had. We showed him proof via emails of the double bed and balcony room we had booked and he became very antagonistic saying he did not care and that it was not his problem, and that a double room simply meant two singles beds and not a double bed. He said we would be unable to change rooms as the hotel was full and to leave and try to enjoy the rest of our time. ||After contacting loveholidays support they sent a few emails and suddenly we were able to change rooms and the hotel was not in fact full. Costas comes across as a sleazy, lazy, dishonest and all-around rude individual. We enjoyed the rest of our time in lygaria once we were given the room we had initially booked and paid for.||Other thoughts include the following:|- all inclusive in name only is very much the case; to change beach towels for fresh ones we were charged a 3 euro fee per towel (not a deposit so non-refundable).|- all inclusive food in the restaurant was poor quality for the most part, minimal choice and never replenished so if arriving later for meals good luck.|- restaurant food never had labels so was always a guessing game knowing what anything was you were eating, again good luck if you have allergies.|- beer, wine and squash provided as all inclusive were all of extremely poor quality or watered down severely, also noticed that restaurant food was commonly re-used (e.g. leftovers from breakfast were carried over into lunch choices, sometimes even the same leftover food from breakfast being presented as part of a dinner option).||Overall, will not be staying here again and recommend to others to give it a miss as not good value for money at all. If staying in or near Lygaria would instead recommend looking for an airbnb or other...
