We ate here on August 4, 2023. The music was painfully loud. Granted, my husband and I are both over 50, but we were with 3 adults in their twenties and even they found the music torturously loud. The view from the restaurant was amazing and the tables and interior decor were elegant. The service was a little slow and not very warm (compared with other places we ate in Crete), but competent. It's a long story how we ended up at this place. Suffice to say we didn't exactly choose it. There was a mishap with a taxi. It was very late. We were all starving and terribly thirsty after a long day of travel from California. There were 5 of us, so we ordered practically all the appetizers on the menu and several of the mains to share. As it's been more than 3 weeks since we were there, I can't remember exactly what we had, but it was all excellent. The prices were on the high side for Crete, but given the location and elegance of the place, I can understand. All that being said, the whole experience of our first meal in Crete was ruined by the excruciatingly loud Greek 'house music' with its thumping base and repetitive melodies. With a hotel right next door, I can't understand how this establishment can operate without constant complaints from guests trying to sleep or enjoy some quiet in their rooms. Honestly, I don't understand how the employees can tolerate working in such an environment. The music was completely at odds with the refined dining experience and serene view. Last week I had the pleasure of dining at MAREA. It was a wonderful evening, full of culinary surprises and an atmosphere that immediately puts you in a holiday mood.

The food was delicious and so sophisticated. There is so much effort and creativity in every plate which makes the experience even better.

MAREA offers not only delectable food, but also an enchanting ambience overlooking the azure waters of Agia Pelagia bay. One of the highlights of the evening was the live saxophone music gently floating through the air, making the experience even more magical.
