What a great place to eat and relax! We have been staying in nearby Anatoli apartments (run by the same people) so we spent a lot of time here, almost every lunch and dinner. After having most of the things on the menu I can say for sure, that you will be able to find something which suits you. There were a lot of traditional food options all made with care and local ingridients (Antikristos lamb was mouthwatering and local caught fresh fish was one of the best seafoods I had). I would recomend you to try fried eggplant, mix (of both fish and grill), Anatoli salad and also would recomend to listen to the staff which have very good sugestions. Staff was very pleasant, taking their time to create nice relaxed southern atmosphere and sometimes chat about food, local traditions and such. There were a lot of greek people eating here who also seemed to enjoy the company of the owner, with whom we sadly were not able to talk due to language barrier. Place itself is great, you can see all of Ligaria bay and beach is nearby, so children can go swim while you wait. Great views especially in the evening when sun sets and in mornings (sadly, they open well after sunrise). Overall I would definetly come back here for either a casual familly meal or an atmospheric dinner with friends or loved one. This place made my...
Read moreAfter 3 days of sailing from Symi to Crete we stopped at this unexpected and beautiful bay. I had probably the best lamb chops I have eaten in my entire life! Its on a small uncrowded but beautiful family beach in central north coast of Crete away from the crowds.
Stella, the owner of the family restaurant is from Crete and her father is from a village in the mountains. He is a butcher and provides all the meat for the restaurant. The meat is harvested from roaming lamb, cattle and goats from the crete mountains. The lamp chops were cooked on wood grill to perfection and the meat just melted in my mouth. I washed it down with local white cretan white wine.
We also enjoyed the famous local crete desert called Dakos. Barley rusks or paximadi, not on bread. The rusks are lightly soaked in water or olive oil to soften them, and then they are topped with grated fresh tomato and myzithra, the creamy sheep or goat’s milk cheese.
We finished with a light local desert called Portokalopita (orange rind marinated in slightly sweetened local raki) accompanied by home made cretan raki. I am usually not a fan of marmelade but this was amazing....
Read moreVisited this restaurant last night. We parked on the street and walked about 100m down to the beachfront to the taverna. There was greek music playing but not too loud, and there were only another 2 tables occupied when we arrived. It's quite a large taverna, almost on the beach, with a spectacular view of the bay. We picked a table at the front, so we had a clear view. The waitress was very polite when she brought the menus over. She gave us plenty of time to choose and then came to take our order. We ordered baked feta with tomatoes and a Cretan salad, followed by moussaka and pork souvlaki. The waitress brought over some fresh bread with dips whilst we waited for our food. The food was all fresh, hot and flavourful. There was so much we couldn't finish it, but they gave us the salad in a takeaway box 😊. At the end of the meal, we were given complimentary chopped watermelon and strawberries and a small bottle of Raki. More diners came whilst we were eating and the taverna...
