A sui generis restaurant in terms of decoration and menu. The owner's artistic touch is evident in every possible detail all around. Most importantly though, the menu isn't set. This is a farm-to-table place, meaning that all the veggies comes from its own garden, located on the left hand side of the upper entrance. Same goes for the rest of the food: the first time I visited, I had the freshest fish I'd ever had in my life (a 3 pound golden grouper). A couple of days later, I wanted to visit again with another group of friends. The owner told us that there would be no fish that day, because the sea was rough. And he was very right to do so and not to include a fish in the menu that day which was caught 1-2 days before. Day 1 menu: -boiled seasonal wild weeds -lightly mashed fava beans -Greek salad -grilled golden grouper with grilled veggies -dessert treat: handmade 'saraglakia' (swirl shaped filo pastry) with ice cream Day 2 menu: -goat and green beans braised in tomato sauce -braised beef with Cretan pilau rice -'boureki' (potato and zucchini layers, filled in-between with traditional soft cheese and mint, topped with bechamel sauce) -pork and potatoes slow cooked in the oven -long spring roll stuffed with cheese and 'apaki' (local smoked pork cold cut), topped with chutney All I have to say is that the owner knows his quality.

FIRST OF ALL… If you are expecting formalities… fast service… and all what you usually get in famous restaurants… or even in famous Fast Food chains… DO NOT go there !!! But if you are seeking GREEK (Cretan) atmosphere, TOP quality food… friendly peoples… unique decor… shocking sea view… nice wine… top quality Cretan Raki… and sky rocketing deserts… RUN there… but be patient with the slow speed of service… because as we say in Crete… THE VEFY GOOD THINGS… NEED THEIR TIME !!! No menu and catalogues… but WHATEVER you get…. you will remember !!! PROMISE !!! Special point: The LOVELIEST little dog EVER… is part of the experience !!!!!♥️♥️♥️

The experience at Kavourina is amazing. The Food is the best I have had in my trip to the Greek/Crete islands. Daily hand written menu via the Chef. Who picks his ingredients fresh everyday. I ordered the bruschetta and oven Baked prosciutto Unfortunately the bruschetta was sold out and they recommended the Greek salad. I was hesitant and glad I did order. The tomatoes, cucumber, olives and onion were freshly picked. Then crispy bread and the creamiest sheep feta. Almost like a Panzanella salad. You walk to the bar area to order drinks. They will go through their offerings and explain the wine variety.

So disappointed. After seeing the reviews I had very high expectations but the food was just okay, not bad but definitely nothing special as we read in the reviews but the worse thing is how we were treated. We were served differently from other tables who were clearly locals (our table was of 11 Italians). We were ignored the whole time and the place was empty. They brought bread and chilled water to the other tables and we were not served bread and they brought us bottled water with literal ice inside, we couldn't even pour it because it was ICE. Very rude and almost didn't want to explain what the dishes were. I understand that you don't want tourists but as a foreigner who is interested in some authentic food and this is the treatment that I get I don't think it's right. Got a bottle of wine and didn't want to tell us the price only an idea of the range even though we asked multiple times for the price. No receipt and no card payment. So so disappointing. Just go somewhere else foreigners are clearly...

My wife and I were welcomed with extreme kindness by a team that has been working in this tavern for many years. It's a place that every epicurean must try at least once in their life. We sampled traditional dishes of unrivalled richness and flavour, each more succulent than the last. Each dish, stuffed vegetables, wood oven lamb, cuttlefish with olives, baklava with ice cream, is a unique sensory experience, a true ode to culinary tradition. The restaurant is a jewel box of history and gourmet delights, a place where every detail has been thought of for your pleasure. The terasse is a haven of peace where time seems to stand still. Let yourself be seduced by exquisite traditional cuisine, prepared to perfection. Each dish is a symphony of flavours, an unforgettable culinary experience. The restaurant's atmosphere is both elegant and welcoming, a real treat for the taste buds. The staff are exceptionally attentive...
