September 2022 (two single rooms): The location is good. Aircraft noise guaranteed. Very good kitchen. Nice staff in the evening and for breakfast. 20' walk to the sea. 10' to Cityenter. Parking for 5 cars about 90 meters away. Nice pool until 7pm. Bus stop in front of the hotel. Air conditioning pay extra - not too tight!!!! The owners, an old couple, only speak Greek and their behavior is peculiar. Rooms are not made up on Sundays. **
May 2023 (a single room): As previously described. But there was an absolute 'no go'. I'm in the room reading on the bed. The door is unlocked and the old man comes in without a word, rummages around in the bathroom for something and goes out again without a word. He's just stepping into my privacy. --- simply an inexcusable behavior!!! --- *
Aug/Sep 2023: (one single room, one family room) The towel holder has been broken for 2 years. No more breakfast service. The old woman is alone, but wants it that way. A single, huge, never-ending chaos. If you don't insist on your breakfast, you'll just be ignored. Breakfast primitive and something is always forgotten. Be it butter, water, milk,... The toast dry, like after 3 summers. Dinner is very good, the service (Georga) very nice. Except for the pita. It is heated on the gas stove - it smells and tastes the same. The old man is grumpy all day and both fall asleep at the table in the evening when they are only there to check. To laugh, they go to the basement, which they don't have. So you are always in a desolate mood. There are three simple words for the old man: rude, rude, rude. The price of the air conditioning is not explained beforehand. € 7/day and device a Greek word for it: Απάτη **
Therefore it will not be more than **, because it is steadily going downhill. The Greeks are characterized by politeness and hospitality. The two ancients are obviously not Greek.

Read moreWe have literally just come back from this hotel today and to be honest we have a mixed opinion about it . |Firstly Catarina and Nikitas are absolutely brilliant and are probably the best thing about the hotel .Very hardworking, friendly and helpful people ,impressive especially as they are both so young |. The hotel itself is very clean , our room was immaculate. There’s air conditioning,a mini fridge ,kettle and cups but no actual tea or coffee . We had a terrace which was thankfully shaded most of the day . The rooms are spacious with lots of storage.|The breakfast was fab and freshly cooked but there is no menu so Catarina has to list out the options to you . The bus to Rhodes stops right outside the door which is a real advantage. There isn’t much to do in Kresmasti during the day but buzzing with atmosphere at night . |That’s the good but there are loads of stupid rules as well . You aren’t allowed to bring a bottle of water from your room or from outside the hotel to the pool area . The pool doesn’t seem to have an obvious filter and so can get scummy around the edge . One of the poor cleaners was on her knees scrubbing the green off the other morning . |The food is fabulous and home cooked but sometimes you feel like asking for lunch is a huge problem. Esmeralda is there all day and sometimes falls asleep at a table . Her husband is unreal , he stomps around scowling at people and shouts if there’s a problem . He seems to forget you’re paying to stay there . |It was really noisy at night with people messing about but I don’t blame the hotel for that but maybe they should add it to the rules .|We had a good enough week there but I...
Read moreWhen our Ryanair flight was cancelled, my mum and I were very pleased to get a couple of last minute rooms at Hotel Esmeralda. We recevied a warm welcome from the young man at reception, and from Esmeralda too - thank you!
The rooms were clean and surprisingly big, with high ceilings too. The hotel fronts onto a main road, but rooms are at the back of the hotel, and so were peaceful and quiet. The shower pressure was excellent and the beds were comfortable. Plenty of wardrobe space too, along with a small fridge in each room.
We both enjoyed freshly-made chicken souvlaki for dinner, served with a greek salad, tzatzki and chunky pitta bread. Also a delicious glass of wine from a Rhodes winery. The meal was excellent, with the chicken lightly charred on the outside and succulent on the inside (we were offered a choice of how we wanted the chicken cooked). The flavour was amazing.
I had a swim the next morning in the wonderfully clean pool - the kind receptionist warned that it would be very cold! Luckily I actually found it refreshing - about the same temperatue as the sea in Lindos.
The only drawback I could see was the location - 15 mins walk from the beach, and some distance into Rhodes town itself (where we had been staying). However given that we needed somewhere close to the airport (5 minutes drive), it was perfect for us. I agree with other reviewers that if you want a simple hotel, somewhere less touristy, but still with a warm Greek welcome, then Hotel Esmeralda is a perfect...
