Directly across a narrow channel of water from Poros Town is the less famous town of Galatas which is on the Peloponesse.|Numerous taxi boats are available throughout the day to transport you quickly and efficiently across the water for 1 EU each. The ride takes less than 3 minutes. A car ferry is also available ( 5EU for the car and 1 EU each ).|If you are visiting Poros, staying in Galatas makes a good deal of sense in that accommodation costs are substantially less than you will find on Poros.|To that end, I unreservedly recommend Hotel Papasotiriou, a family operated hotel ( 33 rooms ) in the heart of Galatas. I had advised them i was visiting with my family and my 1 year old son and they did not bother to inform me about the conditions. The "civil servant" stile of person in charge was the worst example of the famous Greek hospitality and as a Greek i am insulted. |They should give this hotel to someone who has the will and the energy to run it professionally instead of maintaining this...
