After reading some great reviews for the adult only, Meandros Spa Hotel, we thought it would be the perfect place to stay. I had emailed the reservations manager a couple of days prior to arrival, to request a suite that had a sunny balcony for the majority of the day and they said they’d try their best to accommodate.|The receptionist was very welcoming and check in was quick. We were soon making our way to our suite. Disappointing to find we were overlooking the side of the building at windows to another room, with a partial view of the pool and completely shaded. Definitely not what I was expecting. The glass door to the bathroom dangerously opened to hit the toilet too. So, we went to reception and asked if we could change rooms, for a sunny balcony. The receptionist was very accommodating and said there would be a garden view suite, with a sunny balcony, available the following day, which was music to my ears. The following day, we moved into suite overlooking the garden and it was much better.|The hotel itself is very clean and a bit quirky, with it’s mix of eclectic accessories, including unicorn heads with gold horns in the rooms. We've been to 5* boutique hotels in other countries and the Meandros doesn't warrant being 5*. Other reviews mentioned the owners being around and chatting with guests. We had no idea who the owners were? |What did really disappoint me was the food in the main buffet restaurant because reviews raved about how amazing the food selection was! Based on the reviews, we booked half board and boy do we regret that now! The food variety in the evening was quite basic, very poorly put together and just a mismatch of stuff. None of it looked appealing . I struggled to put things together to make an appetizing meal and I’m not a fussy eater. The salad bar wasn’t very appealing either. So, believing the reviews and going half board, was a bad idea. The breakfast buffet was better, with a selection of fresh fruits, meats, cheese, cereals, hot options and made to order omelettes. What was cringe about breakfast time, was the music choices! Elvis songs were playing loudly on our first morning. Now I love a bit of Elvis but not at breakfast. Day 2, we had country music! My husband decided he couldn’t endure breakfast time after day 2, so I was going for breakfast on my own.|The waiters in the main restaurant, are all Filipino, so attentive, welcoming and really lovely.|The rooftop restaurant Uranus was our preferred place to eat dinner at the hotel. The menu is small but the food is very good. On reflection, I think the reviews for the food must be for Uranus, rather than the main buffet restaurant. There is an amazing restaurant near to the hotel, called Vinaz, where the food is superb and service is excellent. |We decided not to lay by the hotel pool because the loungers were all so very close to each other and it felt too enclosed and on top of each other. I like my space. So we went out during the mornings, then in the afternoon we were on our balcony, as there was room for me to have a Lilo to lay on, plus we had 2 chairs and a sofa.|I'm sure this hotel is to the taste of many, but not to...
Read moreMyself, husband and two children (2 years and 5 years) had a fantastic time and the hotel in August and is the best we’ve stayed at in Greece. It was a very relaxed and chilled holiday, helped by the setting of the hotel, with no loud music playing from the snack bar during the day, and you could always get a sunbed around the pool. (One small issue was that they appeared to be a few parasols short, and therefore these were taken first. With the temperatures reaching early 40’s in our second week, shade was needed for the kids – therefore this was the only disadvantage on the few days we didn’t manage to get one). Just meant we had to spend longer in the bar!!!! The area around the pool is very clean and in good condition, with the Jacuzzi being the most powerful one I’ve ever had! The children’s pool was also good for our two and the main pool was also accessible to them where ball games and driving and jumping etc was able to take place without really effecting anyone else. The food in the snack bar was limited, but very good quality for a reasonable price. With happy hour deals between 1-3pm and drink promotions at other times during the day. Highly recommend the Pork Gyros! The main restaurant for evening meal and breakfast was decorated tastefully (albeit sometimes quite warm in the evenings) and there were a small selection of tables (mainly for 2 people) to eat outside. Quiet music was always played to give some atmosphere, and the food was good quality. There was a freshly made to order meal option available each night and the Beef stiffado, Moussaka and Italian nights were fantastic. With only a few choices of main meals each night, they were of a high standard even though they were being produced in large volumes. The rooms were still very basic, as normal for Greece but had everything you needed (except a 4th chair for our family of 4 on the balcony?!). Towels provided for the pool/beach at no extra charge and we changed them every few days. The entertainment was mediocre in the evening. The Greek night BBQ and dancing was fun, however some of the singers/performers that were there did not bring much atmosphere to the bar area. It was lacking something in the evenings, (but again, if you’re after a quiet chilled evening, then this ticks that box) and we generally would either walk down the road towards the beach or heard towards the Laganas Road for a few bars with music/entertainment for the kids. (The Look up has a play area for young children and do great cocktails!)
The staff were the gems in this hotel. All of them were so friendly, and could not do enough for us and our family. (They tried every day to get a smile from our daughter, and never gave up!!!) Big shout outs especially to Olga, Armando and Daisy who were so lovely during our stay and really made us...
Read moreI'm writing this review from the beautiful garden of the hotel where I'm sitting awaiting my transfer. From start to finish, this hotel has been a blissful experience. We needed chilled out, relaxing, peaceful, no fuss, and it delivered perfectly. As we are hony-mooning, we chose to stay in a grand master suite rm 102, which also had its own private pool. This proved to be a haven for relaxing, catching the beautiful sun all day long. Bathroom and amenities were absolutely spotless, modern, and comfortable, as was every single area in the hotel. Our beds were separate on arrival, but this was rectified as soon as we requested. Only suggestion here: some pillows need retiring and replacement. |Food- we stayed on a breakfast and dinner basis and found it fantastic. A really nice selection at both, and great healthy options too. No fussy dress codes, chilling out and relaxing is the theme here. Perfect. Unbelievable hospitality from the servers, they are worth their weight in gold. A big thank you to Mark, Kenneth, John and team for their warm, friendly, and welcoming hospitality. These could write a book in how it's done! |Check-in was seamless, friendly, and efficient and checked out like wise. There were no issues with room charges, all very clear and transparent. |Spa was a beautiful relaxing haven, and the hotel offered a complimentary head and neck massage with a further 20% discount on full body massage. A perfect start to the holiday. |We booked a table in the Neptune sky restaurant, which is on site, and again offered a generous discount for residents. Beautiful food and views, and lovely music from a young singer. Traditional Greek night was fantastic too with an amazing show. I read somewhere that this lasted 20 mins- I can assure you it's not, more like 1.5 hours and just brilliant. |Pool area, spotless, quiet, and lots of beds without the embarrassing hogging at first light. All in all, if you want to check out, be nurtured and have a totally relaxing break, this is your place. If you want entertainment, music etc I'd choose elsewhere. Also- the kindness show to the little cats here would warm your heart. As animal lovers, we appreciated that alot. |A side note: to those giving out about environmental noise - franky says relax ' some things can't be helped and if it annoys you you defo need...
