We were hoping to stay here for a week. Really looking forward to our Holiday. This has been recommended to us by friends and had high hopes. When we arrived we immediately fell in love with the chill out area linked to the Flamingo Restaurant, and the views on the sea front. We were shown to the dorm and our beds, to be greeted by a cat. We know in Central America cats and dogs roam but wasn’t expecting him to be in the dorm. And there for the whole night. At one point he even got onto my friends bed. We didn’t feel the place was clean. The showers had great pressure when you managed to turn them on. They were cold only which we don’t mind and is quite normal to Central America. The facilities were not the cleanest at all. The dorm beds didn’t have any privacy curtains. My bed was next to the open windows. The sheets didn’t fit the bed and fell off with each movement. I woke up in the morning with several new mosquito bites from the room. The window covers were broken. At 5:30 am the cafe are began to open. We were awoken by the sound of food preparation and music. We decided we didn’t want to stay anymore so asked reception for the money back for the rest of the stay. The conversation began quite friendly, and I was told she had to speak with the manager. After speaking with the manager and being told we could only have 50% of the stay returned we knew this wasn’t a good enough option. I asked to speak to the manager directly and was told she was busy working online and could only respond when she can so I had to wait. After then continuing the conversation the receptionist became quite rude and telling me that ‘I don’t know how to travel’, I made it clear to her it wasn’t her fault and I wanted to speak to the manager. When I asked her not to be rude she returned the comment with ‘I’m just stating facts’. I thought this response was out of order. I was working towards a solution for both parties, which the boss and receptionist were against at the begging of the convosation. I was told the money couldn’t be returned due to the policy. I asked to see the policy which I had never signed up to and was told the policy on hostel world was not linked the the owner. After asking to see this and where I agreed, I was quickly informed to cancel my stay via hostel world and was given the majority of my stay back. ||We will defintly returned to the Flamingo bar and chill area as it’s lovely. However, I strongly advise against the hostel. On the island there are many guest houses for cheaper with...

Total scam. The photos and description clearly show how the place used to be — nothing like it now. The restaurant/bar was never open during my stay. For a place called “La Hamaca,” you’d expect nice hammocks — nope, just uncomfortable rope chairs. My dive resort was more comfortable, and that wasn’t even their selling point.

No trash bins anywhere; you have to dump your garbage in other businesses’ bins. The host only shows up to collect money. During the day they leave the doors open, and stray dogs came in and pooped on the floor — it stayed there all night. At night, they lock the outdoor bathrooms (afraid someone will steal the toilet paper?), so if you’re relaxing on the terrace you have to go through the front door, cross the dorm, and wake people up just to use the toilet.

This place has potential, but the host clearly doesn’t care about creating the traveler vibe they brag about in the...

Close to everything you could need or want! After a tiring long journey jumped into the sea from the terrace and it brought my crew straight back to humanity with energy for the social area which was a big highlight for all of us, we met such incredible life long friends from all over the world.Staff super friendly and accomodating which helped ease us into the unfamiliar space.Overheard a pair of expats complaining it was hot in their rooms in the late afternoon as the AC/C was off but maybe they didn't understand the much needed electricity conservation in such an economy, ALSO why are you inside on such a beautiful day?!?! Rooms well kept! 3 showers and 3 toilets for 22 of us but they were well kept throughout our 2 week stay and all of us had no problems!

PS- I am a South African going to Sweden next week with a girl I met burshing my teeth with at 3am in the morning , 10/10...

Backpacking six months through North and Central America, and this was the first place I left early — despite having more nights booked — because it felt unsanitary. The place looked abandoned the moment I walked in. Still, I thought, “Hey, low season I guess.” But there was literally no one else there. I was the only person in my dorm for three days. On the last day though, I got some company: massive mosquito infestation, a cockroach in the bathroom, and a cat sleeping in one of the beds. Packed and booked another place on the spot. Staff leaves I think around 18h and so you have nobody to ask for help if something happens. Like the mosquito infestation. Also. They charge a 15–20% commission if you pay by card. Lol.

On the pictures the hostel looks very nice but it's not that special how it looks.... The dorms are like big rooms with just the beds inside and divided by curtains, the beds are OK so far, but there are cats entering the room and the rooms are not locked so anybody could enter. The showers and toilets were not very clean and the doors couldn't be closed properly. The bar isnt available all the time which is very bad, because you don't get in touch with the people staying there, even people from outside come to the property and hang around which is quite uncomfortable. The outside part of the property is nice and invites to hang around though.

Do you like running water, hot water, clean beds, and shutters that don't pound against the walls all night long? Then this hostile is not for you. No hot water, fine, I can deal. Not a single person in the hostile getting sleep because constant banging by shutters that DON'T latch close is a deal breaker. Then on the final day of our stay, they turned off the water. Toilets were filled with waste. It was disgusting!!!! I don't recommend it to anyone.
