Gold House Pension — Hotel in Balatonfüredi járás

Having rebooked and paid for the Pension and based on fellow reviews we were looking forward to staying here. We arrived around 3pm to find the place locked up tight. We tried every door, pushed the buzzer and knocked on a lot of doors and windows but no one was home. After 30 minutes of waiting around we decide to drive into the main area of the town to get some food as we didn't't have a mobile phone to call the Pension directly. We arrived back around 4.30pm and this time luckily a maintenance man who was working there managed to let us into reception. From there he managed to track down one of the owners I assume. He mentioned for us to wait and called someone on the phone and told us to wait for 5 minutes. He seemed surprised to see us even though we had pre-booked. A lady then arrived and told us we had to go to another hotel in the town which I believe was the Hotel Astoria. Language was a definite barrier here as her English was limited and my Hungarian is not so great. In any case when we said we didn't want to go to the other hotel she managed to call the lady owner on her mobile to explain. Apparently there was some technical problem with the Pension so we couldn't stay here and she said that we should go to the hotel to stay instead. She did say that the cost would be the same and that we would be getting a better deal basically for the same price. While I might have been happy for this to happen if someone had have been there to greet us when we first arrived, and apologised and explained what the problem was after having to wait around and not receive any apology what so ever and then get into an argument with the lady when we said we would like a refund and to find our own accommodation. Unfortunately that when things broke down and we simply left without any refund being offered. Overall this is the worst treatment we have received at any accomodation we have ever stayed at. We are now trying to retrieve our prepaid money via the online booking site we used. There are plenty of better options available in the town and we had excellent service at the Hotel Margareta when we stayed...

A very good guesthouse at a good location between the train stations of Balatonfüred and Balatonaracs (some noise from the trains). It is a 10-15 minutes walk to the city center and the Balaton Lake. Very friendly reception by a lady that speaks English very well. Very nice rooms with a balcony, airco, fridge, tv, a small desk and a modern private bathroom. My room was a little hot thought, the airco couldn't handle the heat. Very good WiFi reception. In the common kitchen there is a water boiler and a microwave oven. There is a small swimming pool and a common terrace here you can sit or drink something. Extemely good breakfast buffet with fresh fruit, yoghurt, different kinds of quality bread, eggs, sausages, good coffee (not always the case...
