We came up here in early September 2019 to escape Budapest on a budget... we were not disappointed. The hotel is right beside Lake Balaton and a ten minute walk to the main drag of gift shops and restaurants. The hotel exterior has a Wes Anderson-style and the grounds are kept immaculately clean and tidy, particularly the pool and lounge area, which also has their own outdoor toilet facilities which are very pleasant and private. ||The receptionists are very polite and fluent in English, and more than willing to help. The room we stayed in for one night was quite old school, late 80’s decor and furniture - but it was spotless and had all the amenities you need. However, the shampoo/body wash dispenser in the shower was watered down, presumably to save on using more product, so you can’t really wash yourself with it - bring your own shampoo and body wash if staying here. ||In the evening we went downstairs to the lobby area and were greeted with an amazing smell of food. Dinner was a self-service buffet and contained many samples of dishes and combinations for all tastes - vegetarian included. I recommend the pork in Sicilian style sauce - delicious! For a 3 star hotel, the food was surprisingly fresh and bountiful. Again, the staff in the dining area were super helpful and always willing to assist with a smile. The facilities were clean and we thoroughly enjoyed this experience. Breakfast the next morning was fabulous with so much choices of food - cold cut meats, salads, cheeses, fruits, cereals, vegetables, wide variety of coffees and teas, bratwurst sausages, scrambled eggs, breads etc. In my opinion the staff put in huge effort in simply preparing the breakfast platter and it was noticed by fellow guests - very commendable.||Overall, the two of us had a lovely experience in this quaint hotel. In order of preference, I would give #1 for the staff, #2 for the food, #3 for the room and facilities. ||I would recommend this hotel for budget seekers with a large appetite who enjoy strong customer service.||Thank you...
Read moreThe hotel operates fraudently by advertising itself as pet friendly through the Booking platform. After booking the accommodation (we filtered pet friendly accommodations) we contacted the hotel that we were comong with our dog (the conditions then stated that we need to announce our arrival) just to be informed that there were no more pet friendly rooms. The hotel did not want to give us a free cancellation, and we could not leave our dog home alone for 2 nights. In this way the hotel and Booking recieved 50% of the price by not providing any kind of service. Also, after our call the hotel immediately changed the conditions into "not pet friendly" accommodation. By doing this they only confirmed that I was right, but luckily I am a lawyer and my professional deformation is to screenshot everything :) This behaviour is against all competition and consumer protection rules and we plan to escalate this to a higher level. Beware of this hotel because it operates in all kinds of ways to decieve its guests.
Given that I can't answer on the hotels response, I would like to state also that it isn't true that your policy stated that the pet friendly rooms are limited, it only stated that for a pet friendly room, a demand is necessary. I am also very sorry that you don't know how to write your policy clearly and are using this kind of language and sentance constructions that can mislead a guest. Our weekend is ruined now, and don't go saying that you didn't charge our card when you said that you won't be giving us a free cancellation. If you changed your policy because of this case than you indirectly accept that this was your fault.
Thank you for your...
Read moreMixed feelings about our stay My husband and I are frequent travelers, so we have a lot to compare with. Hotel Margaréta has many positives that made our stay pleasant: the staff was friendly, the food was delicious, and most importantly, the wellness area was wonderful. We really enjoyed the saunas, jacuzzis, and the swimming pool. Unfortunately, several things lowered our overall impression: • Strange rules. We were very surprised by the hotel's rule that prohibits guests from putting their own food or water in the fridge for "hygienic reasons." This seemed illogical, as most places in town close at 8 PM, and we've never encountered such a rule in any other hotel. • Wi-Fi and Renovations. The Wi-Fi in our room was almost non-existent, forcing us to go out onto the balcony or to the first floor to use it. Additionally, there were two days of loud renovation work right next to our balcony during our stay. It would have been more thoughtful to give us a room further away from the construction to avoid the noise. • Lack of basic amenities. For a hotel of this level with a wellness center, the absence of slippers in the room is a significant drawback. We had to rent bathrobes, which also felt unusual. • Issues in the wellness area. As a person who works in this field, I noticed that the wellness area has great potential but needs improvement. For example, the floor was often wet and rarely cleaned. There were no plastic cups, no lemon water, or extra sheets (plahts). On one occasion, the saunas were even forgotten to be turned on. Overall, we had a good rest, but we hope the hotel management will address these comments and improve...
